When two people started a shootout with U.S. Border Patrol agents near the Canadian border in northern Vermont a week ago, it seemed like it might be a case involving an illegal alien trying to resist capture. Border patrol agents pulled over the car of two people, a young American woman and a young German born male. The two suspects pulled out guns and started shooting. One agent was killed and so was the German male and the woman was wounded. Several days went by with little or almost no information revealed about the killers. Then information about the two criminals and their connections to other killers began to come out. Weirdly, the two criminals and their associates all seem to be part of a violent trans cult based in the San Francisco metro area. The story reminds me of the Charles Manson-led murder gang of the 1960s.

On Inauguration Day, the shocking news that a US Border Patrol officer had been shot dead near the Canadian border in Vermont in an incident involving a now-deceased foreign national was overshadowed by coverage of Donald Trump's events in the nation's capital.

One week later, a 21-year-old Washington woman was charged over the deadly incident, but little has been reported about her and her deceased accomplice, a German man.

The Post Millennial can report that the mysterious duo who were pulled over in Coventry, Vt. in the deadly shootout are leftist trans militants with alleged ties to a trans terror cell.

Around a week before the Jan. 20 attack, federal law enforcement had been surveilling German man Felix "Ophelia" Baukholt and Seattle woman Teresa "Milo" Consuelo Youngblut, after staff at a Lyndonville, Vt. motel reported seeing them with black tactical clothing, weapons and protective militia-style equipment.

When law enforcement contacted them, they claimed to be looking to purchase property in the area. They promptly checked out of the motel afterward on Jan. 14.

Baukholt was a biological male who identified as trans and used feminine pronouns. He was an award-winning youth math genius who later graduated from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. German media reports that he comes from the Freiburg area.

Around 2021, he was hired as a quantitative trader at Tower Research Capital in New York. He lived in New Jersey. It is believed Baukholt was in the US on an H-1B visa. The DOJ alleges he was armed in the car and tried to aim his firearm before being shot dead.

Youngblut, who is accused of firing the surprise shots that killed Air Force Veteran and border agent David Maland, was injured by returning fire. She is a biological female who identifies as trans and lists her neo-pronouns as "xe/xem/xyrs" on social media. She was a University of Washington student.

Youngblut's family had reported her missing to Seattle Police in May 2024. Her family said she was in a controlling relationship and cut off contact, according to the police report. Youngblut filed a marriage application with a man named Maximilian Snyder in November 2024, though it doesn't appear they actually followed through, according to public records.

Court filings by prosecutors say Youngblut was estranged from her family and traveled internationally in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Her social media account on BlueSky shows she followed Antifa and far-left accounts.

While receiving in-patient medical care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, Youngblut was charged with one count of using a deadly weapon while assaulting a Border Patrol agent and one count of using and discharging a firearm during the assault.

"I did not think it was likely Ophelia would be involved in direct violence—she was not aggressive and I didn't know about her having weapons," Jessica Taylor, a friend of Bauckholt, says.

Taylor, a 32-year-old trans woman in Berkeley, Calif., has met Baukholt repeatedly over the years and was the first person to confirm his identity as "Ophelia." Bauckholt was known online among trans networks in the artificial intelligence fields.

"[Ophelia] may have been radicalized by some person or group," Taylor speculates.

Taylor showed TPM written communications Taylor had with Bauckholt in 2022 where he discussed being in contact with members of the "Ziz" group. The group was or is a California Bay Area-based violent trans commune centered around a cult of personality of leader, "Ziz," whose real name is Jack LaSota.

"Her [Youngblut] associations with other individuals suspected of violent acts also warrants caution," a prosecutor wrote in a court filing on Jan. 27. "The individual who purchased the firearms the defendant and Bauckholt possessed on January 20, 2025, is a person of interest in a dual-homicide investigation in Delaware County, Pennsylvania."

Alleged members of the "Ziz" group are under investigation for a double homicide of an elderly couple in January 2022 in Pennsylvania and the murder of an 82-year-old in Vallejo, Calif.. The court filing strongly suggests Youngblut and Bauckholt were in contact with that group.

"Both the defendant and the person who purchased the firearms in Vermont that the defendant and her companion possessed on January 20, 2025, are acquainted with and have been in frequent contact with an individual who was detained by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during that homicide investigation; that individual is also a person of interest in a homicide investigation in Vallejo, California."

...Federal prosecutors allege Teresa Consuelo Youngblut and Felix Bauckholt received at least one of their firearms from a person of interest in murder cases where details match up to the 'Ziz' group killings

Bauckholt flew back into the U.S. in the hours before the double homicide in Pennsylvania, the prosecutor said, citing data from a Department of Homeland Security database.

Snyder, the Seattle man who applied for a marriage license with Youngblut, was arrested on Jan. 24 in Solano County, Calif. and charged with murder over the killing of the Vallejo elderly victim. It is unclear if he is the "person of interest" mentioned in the Vermont federal court filing by prosecutors.

Maximilian Snyder, who applied to marry Teresa Youngblut in Seattle, was arrested in Solano County, Calif. for the murder of a trial witness and attempted murder survivor set to testify against members of the 'Ziz' group

A spokeswoman declined to comment when asked about Bauckholt and Youngblut's gender identities and details about the prosecution's allegations.

"As per our general policy, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont does not comment on ongoing cases beyond the public record," a spokeswoman said.

...Law enforcement found tactical equipment and a dozen electronic devices in the duo's vehicle

Taylor, Baukholt's friend, has come under pressure by trans activists for speaking about the deceased friend in the early days of President Trump's second administration, which is marked by executive orders empowering border security and opposing gender ideology.

"I don't really think there should be a general obligation for trans people to cover for each other in terms of crimes," Taylor responds.

Youngblut is scheduled for her first federal court appearance on Jan. 27.

That's super cool. It'll be fun to see how it plays out.

These kinds of stories always make me laugh. It's news for people who don't know how to read. The story is basically all about being trans and nothing about the actual events. The German is supposed to be an activist associated with a trans terror cell (unnamed, or possibly ZIZ, but unclear) and belonging to a trans militant group(unnamed), as part of a terror plot (undescribed). In circumstances that are unexplained the trans couple for reasons unknown fired upon and killed a border guard. The authorities are after the "Ziz" group who are alleged to be implicated in a murder, but to whom the couple didn't belong, but were in contact with. A third individual is the one suspected of the actual killing. Members of the Ziz group to which the duo are not alleged to belong are apparently behind the murder, and the murder of this single elderly man (that we're aware of) is now part of a serial killing spree as alleged by our intrepid reporter, again unexplained. He says he hates sensationalism though, so he allegedly has professional standards, despite all evidence to the contrary. We might not have all the (any) of the details of this story, but we do know that our fearless and intrepid reporter did feel the need to use the word "trans" 24 times, just to make sure that we didn't forget that fact. We may not know what happened, or why, or what any of the real connections are, or anything about any terror plot, but we do know for sure that one agent died and by God those fucking trans people are the ones that did it so those serial killing Antifa terrorist scum are ruining America. Any real news editor would barf on this story and the writing.

Seriously, why does anyone with a brain read this shit? Is there a blackout of reliable news sources in some areas? And shouldn't this be in the politics zone? SMH.

The people in the network that the Vermont killers belonged to are, among other things, trans. That's obviously relevant when it comes to determining motive in the murder of the border agent and a couple other murders committed by members of the network.

(KRON) — A spree of killings across the country, including one in Vallejo, have been linked to a radical online community called the “Zizians.”

Not much is known about the Zizians, but a non-verified online webpage dedicated to preventing people from joining the group calls it “a peculiar online cult that operates in the Bay Area.” An investigation by Open Vallejo found that people involved in the recent Vallejo killing and the shooting of a Border Patrol agent in Vermont are possibly connected to the group.

Who are the Zizians?

Open Vallejo reviewed police records, spoke to a person familiar with the group and reviewed years of Internet posts as part of its investigation into the group. It said the Zizians follow a self-described “vegan Sith” ideology.

According to SF Fist, the Zizians appear to be computer-savvy and well-educated, and many or all of them identify as transgender or nonbinary.

The group follows “Rationalism,” an ideology described by Oxford as “the belief that all behaviour, opinions, etc. should be based on reason rather than on emotions or religious beliefs.”

I know a bunch of people who were involved or adjacent, including someone who accidentally got some footage...

November 2019: CFAR bans Ziz and Gwen from their alumni reunion, partly due to fears of violence.November 2019: Ziz, Emma, Somni and Gwen protest at the reunion with accusations of bad decision theory (it's complicated) and transphobia. (All four of them are trans).

It's not obvious at all. We still don't know that triggered the firefight, or even what happened during the firefight. There is no basis to assume anything

As for the rest of that shit from dubious or unverified sources, it doesn't relate to the two people in the story, except possibly in an undocumented and unverified way. It's the laziest type of irresponsible journalism. Guilt by association? Facts extrapolated based on hearsay? And Dear God, SF Fist and Open Vallejo as primary sources of information? You might as well be quoting a box of Lucky Charms.

I don't care about right or left, but I hate disinformation and this is a particularly stupid and transparent version of it.

Around the corner
One thing is obvious they killed a police officer while he was doing his duty so whatever their gender they were armed and dangerous and criminally responsible.
Their beliefs just make the story more sensational which all journalists do because news is business in today’s world and everything is about money and ratings and recognition.
The sad part is 2 people died and one may end up in jail for the rest of her life, there is no good reason for taking someone’s life.

Thank God we don't have to depend on news sources like the NY Times and its social media allies to report the truth about interesting crime stories with weird twists....you know, like the Hunter Biden laptop story, the "mostly peaceful protests" during the 2020 pandemic and the BLM scam.

The murder of a US Border Patrol agent near the Canadian border appears to be linked to a radical leftist trans militant cult accused of killings across the country.

Around a week before the Jan. 20 attack, federal law enforcement had been surveilling German national Felix “Ophelia” Bauckholt and University of Washington student Teresa “Milo” Consuelo Youngblut.

Staff at a Lyndonville, Vermont motel alerted authorities about seeing the duo with a firearm and black tactical clothing.

When law enforcement visited them, the pair claimed to be looking at property in the area and promptly checked out of the motel on Jan. 14, according to court documents.

Then, on Inauguration Day, Border Patrol agent David Maland stopped their car in Coventry, Vermont.

Youngblut allegedly shot at Maland, who was killed, and border agents returned fire, killing Bauckholt. Youngblut is in custody.

Youngblut allegedly shot at Maland, who was killed, and border agents returned fire, killing Bauckholt. Youngblut is in custody.

Authorities now say the guns used by Youngblut and Bauckholt are owned by a person of interest in other murders — and connected to a mysterious cult of transgender “geniuses” who follow a trans leader named Jack LaSota, also known by the alias “Ziz.”

Bauckholt was a biological male who identified as trans and used feminine pronouns. He was an award-winning youth math genius from Freiburg, Germany, who later graduated from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.

Around 2021, he was hired as a quantitative trader at Tower Research Capital in New York. It is believed Baukholt was in the US on an H-1B visa. The Department of Justice says he was armed in the car and tried to aim his firearm before being shot dead.

Youngblut, who is accused of firing the surprise shots that killed Air Force veteran Maland, was injured by returning fire.

Youngblut is a biological female who identifies as trans and lists having neo-pronouns as “xe/xem/xyrs” on social media. Youngblut was a University of Washington student studying computer science.

Youngblut graduated from the prestigious and woke north Seattle private institution Lakeside School, where Bill Gates also attended.

Youngblut’s family had reported her missing to Seattle Police in May 2024. Her family said she was in a controlling relationship and cut off contact, according to the police report. Her social media account on BlueSky shows she followed some Antifa-aligned far-left accounts.

In November 2024, Youngblut filed a marriage application with a 22-year-old fellow Lakeside alumnus named Maximilian Bentley Snyder.

Last week, Snyder, an “any pronouns” computer science whiz from a wealthy Seattle family, was arrested in Vallejo, Calif., for the murder of an elderly key witness set to testify in an upcoming attempted murder trial against alleged members of the trans extremist group.

The arrest has revealed previously hidden close associations between Youngblut, Bauckholt and a cult linked now to four killings.

The transgender leader of the group, who has posted about “transhumanism” and other topics. Some followers say LaSota is dead, but that seems to be a plot to avoid authorities. LaSota used the name “Andrea Phelps.”

Two Zizians who are accused of attacking Curtis Lind in Solano County, Calif., because they were squatting on his property. Lind, who lost an eye in the attack, shot and killed Borhanian, but was going to testify against Leatham and another accused assailant and “Ziz” follower, Suri Dao.

Snyder has been arrested for killing 82-year-old Lind to prevent him from testifying at the trial. Lind was stabbed and had his throat slit on the street outside his home in Vallejo, Calif. on Jan. 17.

Snyder was engaged to be married to Youngblut. Youngblut and Bauckholt were stopped by Border Patrol agent David Maland on Jan. 20 in northern Vermont. Youngblut allegedly shot at Maland, who was killed. Bauckholt was killed by return fire. Youngblut was arrested.

That group, the “Zizians,” are highly-educated trans vegan “rationalists” who hold fringe, esoteric ideological beliefs about transhumanism and animal rights.

Their leader, Jack “Ziz” LaSota, is a biological male who identifies as a woman. He also used the name Andrea Phelps, and is accused of influencing followers to kill. LaSota’s archived prolific blog writings ramble about the use of violence and radical anarchist tactics to achieve various ends.

LaSota has a warrant for an arrest in Delaware County, Pa. after skipping out on court hearings on an open criminal case. His supporters say he died in 2022, but that appears to be based on a fake online obituary to try to escape the law.

A source with knowledge says LaSota was living with Bauckholt and other members of the group in an AirBnb rental in Chapel Hill, N.C., since 2023.

A Jan. 27 motion by federal prosecutors to deny Youngblut bail strongly suggests links with the group.

“Her [Youngblut] associations with other individuals suspected of violent acts also warrants caution,” prosecutor Matthew Lasher wrote in a court filing.

“The individual who purchased the firearms the defendant and Bauckholt possessed on January 20, 2025, is a person of interest in a dual-homicide investigation in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.”

That person of interest is bioinformatics researcher Michelle Jacqueline Zajko, according to the ATF.

Zajko is the trans nonbinary adult child of Rita and Richard Zajko, an elderly couple found killed in mysterious and unsolved circumstances in Delaware County in early 2023. Zajko’s past archived blog posts show close associations with “Ziz.”

According to public records in reporting by Vermont news site vtdigger, Zajko had purchased a plot of land in rural Vermont close to where the deadly shootout occurred. Members of the “Ziz” group are known to live in communes in box trucks.

Zajko has not been charged with any crime.

A dispute over a former Bay-area “Ziz” commune is at the center of the murder case against Snyder, the Seattle man who applied for a marriage license with Youngblut.

In November 2022, 82-year-old Curtis Lind narrowly survived an assassination attempt by three members of the “Ziz” group who were squatting on his property in Solano County, Calif.

They impaled him with a sword and repeatedly stabbed him. Lind shot two of the assailants, killing Amir “Emma” Borhanian. He lost an eye in the attack and spent a month in the hospital.

Two other alleged members of the cult, Suri Dao and Alexander “Somni” Leatham, both transgender, have a trial in April for the attempted murder of Lind, causing the death of their comrade and other felonies. Both of them have tried to escape from custody and face other charges.

But that trial may be in jeopardy with the sole witness, Lind, murdered — allegedly by Snyder.

The Solano District Attorney’s Office accuses Snyder of lying in wait for Lind and then slitting his throat.

“The victim was a witness to a crime who the defendant intentionally killed for the purpose of preventing his testimony in a criminal proceeding,” the DA alleges.

Snyder’s last transaction on Venmo last year was noted for “Milo,” the trans name of his fiance.

Without naming LaSota, the court filing strongly suggests he is the lynchpin between all the suspects and persons of interest.

After the shooting of the border agent, a bomb squad investigated Bauckholt and Youngblut’s Toyota Prius Hatchback.

Investigators found two pistols, ammunition clips, night-vision goggles, two full-face respirators, a ballistic helmet, 48 rounds of hollow point ammunition, shooting range targets, interstate lodging information, two-way radios and a dozen electronic devices, some of which were wrapped in foil.

At their AirBnB rentals in North Carolina, where they lived before going to Vermont, the property owner says Youngblut parked a new box truck to his property, where they spent much of their time during the day, along with other individuals in black clothing.

Some trans activists online are pressuring people not to talk to authorities or journalists, and are cheering the killings.

After it was announced that the elderly witness was murdered earlier this month, one X account that has expressed support of the Vallejo, Calif., trans defendants wrote: “Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.”

You're missing the point completely. I wasn't commenting on the activities in the article. I don't give a rat's ass about the story. What I care about is the way that information is presented to people. The OP is a perfect example of terrible, shoddy journalism that nobody should buy into but that people frequently do. It's not about an objective reporting of facts, it's about using catch words to push an agenda. The original story link was almost devoid of facts tied to the headline, instead railing against the people for being trans and making a bunch of unsupported links between ideas with unsupported conclusions. Now you've gone out an collected some actual usable information that could be used to create a story and support a hypothesis. Good on you. I wouldn't have bothered, but it's nice to see the engagement. You should write the article. You'll notice that I'm neither commenting on the accuracy of the facts/story nor am I holding the obvious bias in the recital of facts against you or the hack/jourrnalist. The allegations just need to have something to hang on, and some type of cogent/coherent argument needs to be presented.I'm not a fact checker here.We have to make allowances for some media bias these days, although I will point out that there are acceptable degrees of it and this probably exceeds them. This kind of stuff, either from the right or the left, usually amounts to echo chamber rhetoric. Not my problem. Should probably be in the politics section though.

Thanks for using some emotional/intellectual energy and willingness to respond to this type of non-critical thinking ( I simply don't have it these days to expend in the way that you did. So, thank you).

I don't wish to dissuade anyone in laying out a logical process to approach a topic discussion but I think I hear another echo, this one is in the room that you were speaking.....

Keep up the good fight urquell.

"Violent trans cult"? Really? You must be kidding! Nope, that's exactly what it is.

An already bizarre shootout that killed a U.S. Border Patrol agent and a suspect on a highway near the Canadian border is unfurling into a sprawling investigation encompassing four other killings allegedly linked to an odd cabal of young math and computer whizzes sharing a passion for artificial intelligence, veganism, fringe philosophy and gender fluidity.

None of the attacks — resulting in six deaths in three states — have been against grand, ideologically chosen targets, as is often found with terror groups or radical cells, but rather seem to be small-minded, reactionary targets based on personal grievances.

Alongside Border Patrol agent David Maland, who was killed in a gunfight Jan. 20 when agents confronted a couple on a Vermont highway, there is a murder of a man in California who was scheduled to testify against associates of the group for a previous attack, during which that victim killed one of his attackers, and a double killing in Pennsylvania of parents of another person allegedly linked to the group.

Teresa Youngblut, 21, from Seattle, was injured but survived the highway shootout, and is accused of starting it by suddenly firing at agents during the interaction.

At a court appearance Thursday, federal prosecutors argued Youngblut should not be released because of her “willingness to use deadly force in an otherwise non-violent scenario,” a “history of interstate and international travel indicating she has the financial means and capacity to flee,” and “her associations with other individuals suspected of violent acts,” a reference to what looks like a cabal or cult-like group...

...Another person criminally charged and linked to the group — who seems likely to be the central figure described in the document filed in Youngblut’s case — is Jack Amadeus LaSota, who turned 34 last week.

LaSota is nicknamed Ziz and was such a prominent and influential figure within the gathering group they are often referred to as Zizians. As a group led by LaSota they disagreed and feuded with others in the rationalist stream of thought, including an eerie protest at an outdoor retreat when Zizians allegedly protested wearing black robes and Guy Fawkes masks.

Like many others in the cabal, LaSota had changed genders. He was born male and presented as female with female pronouns, said someone who personally knew LaSota but did not want to be named.

LaSota was arrested 11 days after the Zajkos were found dead in Pennsylvania, and charged with obstructing law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

That was a surprise for many who knew LaSota; LaSota had been reported dead in 2022 from a boating accident. A paid obituary ran in a local paper. LaSota appears to have faked their death.

LaSota’s arrest was tangentially connected to the Zajko shootings. Court records obtained by AP say police were searching for a gun used in two killings when LaSota was arrested at a hotel room 16 kilometres from the Zajkos’ house.

LaSota had been released on bail and a trial date was set for Dec. 4, 2023, but court records say the defendant was not present in court when the hearing convened. LaSota’s whereabouts are unknown. Delaware County Court says an active bench warrant for LaSota’s arrest was issued on the date of the trial. LaSota has made no further appearance in court and could not be reached for comment.

LaSota’s lawyer at the time, Daniel McGarrigle, declined to discuss his client’s status or circumstances.

“I represent the defendant LaSota and if and when the charges are brought to trial I intend to represent my client,” McGarrigle said. Asked about all the wider issues unfurling, he said: “I’m not going to comment on any of that, that doesn’t have anything to do with my case.”

When LaSota was released on bail, there was a private online alert to other rationalists, saying: “Some people in the rationalist community are concerned about risks of physical violence from Ziz and some of her associates.”

Rationalism is an intellectual ideology orbiting artificial intelligence and decision making that became a subculture among some techies gravitating to the San Francisco Bay area. LaSorta was a prolific blog writer on rationalist thinking and his ideas and his followers splintered from the already fringe orthodoxy.

Taylor, who has had contact with people involved with rationalist ideology and socially met some Zizians, said there is a phenotype among the group that leans toward gender fluidity.

“Among people who are heavy into technology and analytics, a disproportionate number are trans. I’m not sure what’s going on with that. Among Zizians and their associates, almost everyone is transgender. It’s not a prerequisite, just correlated.”

Taylor is a former research fellow at the Machine Intelligence Research Institute, a rationalist non-profit organization. In late 2023, Taylor said Bauckholt seemed to become more secretive, started travelling more, and showed greater anxiety. Then Bauckholt cut off contact with Taylor and other non-Zizian friends.

“I suspect that was a radicalization phase, but I have no way of knowing,” Taylor said.

“I do think their ideology is definitely not pacifist. It’s also definitely not legalist — they’re willing to do violence. There were times when they believed violence was justified when normal people would not.”

The FBI has acknowledged the swirling allegations and suspicion.

“Teresa Youngblut is believed to have associations with other individuals suspected of violent acts in multiple states, to include Pennsylvania and California,” the agency said in a statement late Thursday.

“The FBI is coordinating information sharing on any case related details with our partners from various law enforcement agencies to effectively follow every lead and aggressively investigate these connections.”

This case is a good example of Voltaire's warning about people with absurd beliefs (such as the possibility of magically changing your sex).

Missing the point again, for the third time. It's still not about the story content, no matter how hard you try to make it so. The dogged tenacity is almost laudable, but also a little sad. The way people filter information is an interesting social commentary though.
