TODAY MARK CARNEY should be elected as the new leader of the LIBERAL PARTY and de facto becomes our PRIME MINISTER......in the short term IT SHOULD HELP in the tariffs/discussions.....cause the DUM KING hates TRUDEAU soooo much....
BUT most likely it will not change anything.....never easy to negotiate with a MOB.....lollll.

Carney appears to be a very intelligent and qualified leader especially in navigating the economic mess created by trump who is determined to harm allies and help foes.

CARNEY is not the ''classic'' politician....an impressive / unique CV.....we will see about his leadership.....politic as you know is a very very special/strange universe...BUT in the actual economic/ chaos i really believe he is the one to deal with the EMPEROR...
In his career he went through an economic crisis here in CANADA and later through the BREXIT .......so he understands well the economic issues....
Will he b elected/ next elections????......not sure yet.....big big challenge for him.....BUT perso i really hope he will......my 2 cents.

^^^^^ It is interesting to note when Canada imposed tariffs in October on Chinese made electric cars and steel and aluminum products everyone was silent. In fact some were for it. Btw this will create higher prices for Canadians. Competition drives innovation and gets the best product at the best price. As a result China will be imposing tariffs on March 20, 100% on Canadian rapeseed oil, oil cakes and peas, and an additional 25% tariffs on pork and aquatic products.

i guess the difference is that we have a free trade agreemennt with the US and Mexico (signed by the orange king himself), and now trump is using an illegal work around to impose tariffs (fentanyl). We did not have a free trade agreement with China. So that comparison is apples and oranges, or...lol apples and trumps

Trump 101

He wants to reindustrialize the United States and create jobs for his Maga base. He thinks tariffs on his biggest trading partners can do that in the long run, especially if he plans on sticking around past his term limits.

But much more important for the preeminent standing of the US in the world is the acquisition of critical minerals necessary for modern technology (including military) that the US does not itself produce enough of: Cobalt, Lithium, Copper, Nickel [what Ford threatens to cut off], and much else.

Most of what the US acquires now it does through China [80%], which is highly problematic for a country that sees China as its biggest longterm strategic rival (with its huge leverage over the market and both present & future curtailments & bans on shipments to the US).

Meanwhile, and though not as significant as Chinese reserves, Canada is still an important source with even greater potential. Hence Trump's bullying, predatory desire to annex us (Canada), whom he sees as weak and defenseless (unlike China & Russia).

Although I agree with most of your post, I would change the above sentence to say he wants to create jobs for "those who will vote for and support him or his agenda" as opposed to the MAGA base, many of whom are not employable in those jobs.

I think you also left out the minerals tie in with the endgame in Ukrainian War. Ukraine has received a tremendous amount of USA aid and military assistance for nothing in return and I do not find it unreasonable to ask for mineral rights in return in order to end the war, if in fact that can be accomplished. I see nothing objectionable about it at all. The concept of "trade" stems from one country having something another country wants or needs, and the other country wanting something in return. USA needs minerals and Ukraine needs military weapons, assistance, intelligence and force in return. There is no duty by any country to provide Ukraine with anything, even if some have chosen to do so. What Trump is doing is saying "wait a minute here, what are we getting out of this something for nothing arrangement? The USA needs to get something in return."

I would expect not just Trump but any President we elect to look at things monetarily in terms of what is good for the country as a whole. That is what Trump is doing.

As far as the bullying of Canada, some of it has been dialed back, but some of the rhetoric I think is to start a dialogue on Canadian statehood. As I mentioned in another thread, Puerto Rico has had two national referendums in which they have overwhelmingly voted for American statehood, so the idea of any sovereign nation being welcomed in as a state is neither novel nor repulsive. However, Puerto Rico has not become a state, because I believe that they are viewed as a net negative and will pull out more federal money than they will bring in as revenue. And you cannot have a situation like that, like some have accused Quebec of doing with Canada and "not pulling their weight". So the Puerto Rican referendum votes have not been acted upon.

What Trump is trying to do is stimulate a dialogue on referendums in Canada and in Greenland. There is nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. If the referendums are held and statehood is rejected, the votes will have to be respected. If statehood is accepted, as in Puerto Rico, then the USA then has to evaluate whether the affirming nation is worthy of admission as a state. Puerto Rico was not deemed worthy. That Canada would be should be thought of as 51st state is flattering, not insulting, if we purge notions of nationalism and look at things in a more modern and intellectual manner in which nations are purely economic as opposed to sociopolitical unions. Your post is rooted in ideals of nationalism and nationalistic pride, but in the modern world we are trending away from sociopolitical unions to economic unions, and the thinking really has to be revised and modernized accordingly. The same type of sociopolitical unions and nationalistic pride led to the 20th Century Wars and we have now moved beyond that into a more global world where this kind of thinking is slowly dissipating. This is exemplified by the European Union and the vote on Brexit. The United States is taking a step towards a North American Union.

That Canada should be sought of as the 51st state is flattering?
Who the fuck do you think America is other than arrogant self absorbed like their leader.
Canada is a sovereign country proud of their heritage and their people.
We will never be the 51st state. Does America really want a hostile country on their border? think about that for a while.
Fucking up a friendship that has stood for decades for what,. America is quickly becoming the most hated country in the world and for good reason.
Luckily not all Americans think that way, I have half my family in the US lol.

You are thinking emotionally rather than logically. As I mentioned nationalistic pride is what started World Wars I and II. Your post is a product of the same outdated thinking. Nations in the future will be based on economic unions, not languages and cultures and common ethnicity. Concepts like "Aryan Supremacy", which spawned national pride in Germany, the same kind of pride evident in your post, are things of the past. We need to move into the future. The future is economic unions not based on language and culture.

and you are the same guy who predicted Kamala Harris would win 60% of the popular vote? The referendum votes in Puerto Rico were 2 landslides.

I think many in the western and maritime provinces would vote for statehood, shocking and surprising you.

Nah you underestimate national pride, heritage, culture and patriotism.
Canadians don’t always thump their chest but when backed into a corner they get their elbows up and are not scared of a fight.
People have died in millions to protect that and to be free from aggression.
There are things that I would like and think logical, like having the same currency, having an open border, being able to move freely and to work and live in either country I am all for that free trade without any tariffs what so ever let the market and competition decide the prices.
Being part of the US and under the thumb of the US, never, we have a way of life that I think is way superior to the US, we can walk the streets safely after dark and everybody can get medical attention ( as crapy as it can be sometimes and yes we pay a high price for it in taxes) without having to be rich.
The US is not the Utopia you think it to be.

EU retaliates
Again economic unions not nations- you guys are all analyzing the issues through very old school outdated lenses that are not helping you see the forest from the trees moving into the 2025-2035 chapter of history. The issue is not what is utopian or dystopian now but what we are evolving towards.

Also who said the things you are talking about like health insurance would change? Nobody has yet discussed what form the union would take. Let's not assume results not yet even discussed.

And we don't have mass shootings in schools, shopping centers, outdoor shows (remember Las Vegas shooting that made 60 deaths and 527 injured).
Closer to us, the 2023 mass shooting that made 18 deaths and 13 wounded in Maine.
Thank you Americans we can live without that, keep it for yourself !

Contrary to Mexico, and many European countries, Americans are too misogynists to elect a woman as president no matter her qualifications.
They prefer an orange clown !
