The market in Montreal seems to be doing just fine, so maybe nothing? I guess we have an A-B experiment here on just how much of the market is local versus international...

To the SP market? Absolutely nothing, nobody is traveling to Montreal to pay for pussy for a long time.

I used to fly from Detroit for weekends of fun. Air Canada had a cheap nonstop from Windsor. Looks like the average price for a girl has gone up to 250 CAD nowadays (So 200 USD). Finding a girl like what I will get in MTL will set me back 500 to 1000 USD here in Detroit.

Looking forward to coming back.

I don’t think the percentage of the market taken up by tourists is significant enough to move prices. I think the Montreal price increases have been driven by the standard sex work inflation worldwide. And by the fact that a greater level of services rendered by the current group of sex workers in comparison to their older sisters, aunts, and moms.

Note that prices did not go down when the Americans disappeared.
Good point about prices not going down. Does that mean Americans don't deserve the opprobrium for overtipping the girls and inflating wages then?

It's not just sex work inflation, I think, though. Even fast food restaurants are having trouble finding bodies!

Around the corner
I think prices will remain where they are there is enough local business without the US tourists.
As far as tipping, I think Quebecers are accustomed to tipping 15-20% with regard to the service industry just like Americans.
I don’t think guys from the US are any more generous than the locals.

Canadian border guards are threatening to strike. I guess they have enjoyed sitting around and doing little during the pandemic and the closing of the border during the pandemic.

3 more days, to book a flight or not to book a flight.

The rental markets in Montreal is insane!! I used to rent a nice 1 bedroom in le plateau for about $900. I just messaged the owner for a possible return next week and he wants $2600 for it!!!!!!
Phew, that is insane. $2600 can get you a place in NYC or LA or even SF. What's changed in Montreal?

The flights from NYC have also gotten more expensive. I could occasionally get there for around $200, cheapest is around $350 nowadays. Maybe it'll change as the airlines get a better handle on what demand is like.

Prices are probably up now because they assume the only ones who are moving quickly to travel have the greatest willingness to pay

that’s a huge increase from 900$ , but it’s a free market and there is no cap , massive profits ... if it’s too much I suggest you guys book such a place as roommates

“$2600”......Price gouging!
Or, Supply and Demand?

If said Owner has not Rented the 1 Bedroom for 6 Months or longer, then the Owner needs/wants to recoup that lost Rent.

Or, maybe it’s Greed....

This is true, maybe it's a loss aversion strategy from the landlord. Curious to see if the rest of the market has inflated the same way.

Did they say how the vaccine passport will work for tourists ?

Legault wants to restrict access to non essential services ( I am guessing restaurants).

Will a piece of paper from Idaho, checked by the restaurant be enough ? I doubt it. Seems too easy to forge.

Excellent question. Since there is no federal vaccine passport will Canada be ok with using the passport app Excelsior like in NY or some other database. Maybe the fed will have access to your vaccination status the same way Nexus or Global has access to states DMV records.

That sounds like the way to go, but systems that share information across countries will take a while to put in place. Quebec going alone on this doesn't make it simpler.

A federal system is due in December (best case).

Without some type of centralized, cooperative system to verify, it sounds like it will be simple to forge.

If you look at what's happening in France, the passport will become mandatory next week and they announced a procedure for non-EU travellers "in the coming days". Here I'm sure they'll come up with something as the tourism industry in Montreal must be lobbying pretty hard right now!

Interesting comment about forgeries. A friend of mine who is an anti vaccer but calls himself “pro immunity “ said if he’s shut out of restaurants in NYC he will most likely get a fake. Seems far simpler to just get vaccinated but on a Federal level I doubt he would risk a forged doc just to cross the border. But, I wouldn’t put it past people.

You may want to read the article you posted. They were Canadians.

“The health agency told Newsweek in a statement that they were Canadian citizens.”
They were Canadian or maybe just fictitious. Funny how they come out with this story just before the border opens up. Probably just a scare tactic to make people think twice about entering this country with fake documents. truth is they have no way of knowing what is real and what is fake. Fining someone nearly $20,000 is excessive and I just don't believe it and meanwhile Turdeau has no problem importing the delta virus from the so called banned air travel which has been doing brisk business since the start of the pandemic.

Does anyone have any real-time info about their border crossing experience today. Please share any insight. I am planning to drive up this weekend and will do so. Wait times at border crossing are not bad at all (except ME and MN) but it is a Monday.
