Nawww....

You can't lump with Britney Spears with U2.....

U2's music is very complex and passionate. You can somehow relate to the music with your own experience. With Britney, you just shut your mind and enjoy the visual candy of a nice white blonde rump.:)

I agree with the above statement. U2 knows how to play instruments and sing in public. Britney 'Trailer Trash' Spears can't play anything and lipsyncs.

Two years ago, while attending an Eagles concert in Toronto, i heard Don Henley joking around on stage between songs. He was advising the crowd that they had just completed a dvd of a new song called "Hole in the World". He then mentionned that they are not considered 'music video' material anymore by the record companies. He joked that they're aren't young and fit enough.....they don't have those 'cute belly buttons' and can't dance. He added: "We just write our own songs, we just sing and play real instruments." Amen to that.

These guys must really suck

Nominated for 6 Grammys.

Album of the Year-HTDAAB(HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB)

Song of the Year(songwriters award)- Sometimes you can't make it on your own

Best Rock performance by a duo or group w/vocal- " "

Best Rock Song(songwriters award)-City of Blinding Lights

Best Rock Album- HTDAAB

In addition Steve Lillywhite(producer) is also nominated for his work on the album.

Don't forget "Vertigo" won 3 grammys last year. So far 3 grammys(more to come) and 9 nominations from one album.

Amongst other nominees for these awards only Coldplay(3), the Boss(2), and Foo Fighters(3) have more than one nomination.

Am I beating a dead horse? Britney Spears eat your heart out.

News flash: Grammy Awards are not and never have been measures of quality. They are just tools used by the music industry to market mainstream artists to the gullible public (the people who who absolutely love whatever mainstream media throws at them). Just look at all the jokes who have won (A Taste of Honey, Milli Vanilli, etc) and the great artists who haven't even been nominated. Of course, anyone who DOES believe the Grammys are worth anything must LOVE Mariah Freakin' Carey - after all, she got 8 nominations - 2 MORE than that legend in his own mind Bono and his boys.Let's face it : U2 is not the best band in history but it is probably the most overrated. Also femaleluver is 100% right - where does a sawed-off little runt like Bono get off telling the Prime Minister of Canada his business? I'm definitely NOT a Paul Martin fan but Bono is nothing but a "singer" who hit it lucky thanks to the mainstream media - a bloody "singer", for Christ's sake - a singer is a lot less important than a doctor, nurse, teacher, or a thousand other people - including a bus driver or a garbageman. All THESE people actually DO something to help the world in their own way. A self-described "overpaid pain in the ass" like Saint Bono just has too much time on his hands and wants to stick his ugly beak (always covered by those oh-so-cool shades of course) into everyone'e business in order to try to make himself look like a hero.

Off topic...

Speaking of Mariah Carey I have come to realize that Lola/Lolita of The companions have a very good resemblance to the once angelic nice girl-next-door with an amazing voice before turning into a skank.

Okay back to our schedule programming of HonestAbe`s and joelcairo`s verbal judo.

I've never been a great lover of their music but I appreciate that they are a great band. Their only song that I really love is a cover of Maggie's Farm that they did live for some benefit concert.
And maybe Bono tries a little too hard when it comes to world politics but at least he tries to do something and his voice is heard by a lot of people and may make a difference for some who end up as politicians in the future.
I caught the Aussie Pink Floyd show on Thursday night and they are an amazing cover band. You could actually forget at times that it wasn't the real thing on stage. Highly recommended for any Floyd fans, a not to miss experience.

Singers have raised millions (or is it billions?) of $$ for charity, poverty, 9/11 relief, etc......so i feel they have a right to voice their political opinions since they've contributed more than our overpaid politicians. Take Farm Aid, for example. They do great work to help our farmers. The Jerry Lewis MD Telethon......if it wasn't for singers, no one would be watching and sending money.

At the recent Live 8 concerts, the artists (including Bob Geldof) didn't profit from that event. Their aim was to give a wake-up call to our politicians (G8 countries) and give them a kick in the butt. Doubt that'll work, but at least someone's trying.

Excellent post Dude!!!

The first link above shows the Grammy nomination/voting process which is only done by Academy of Recording Artist members, NOT MAINSTREAM MEDIA!!!! Please stop repeating this farce! Members of the academy must have worked on at least six tracks in a TECHNICAL capacity to be eligible to vote. RECORD COMPANIES DO NOT VOTE!!!!!!!! HELLOOOO! This is a competition which every artist/record label wants to win but have NO SAY IN the results.

The Grammys are the most famous awards given next to the Oscars. To be nominated is considered by most musicians to be a great honor, to win is the ultimate achievement. Yes there are a few winners who are notorious for scandal(Milli Vanilli), others who never did another thing, and yet others who had no talent other than a voice, a skimpy outfit, and sexy lyrics. For the most part however, Grammy winners comprise a list of whos who in the history of modern music. There are categories for every Genre so none of it is biased by taste. Everyone is judged according to what kind of music they make against other artists who make similar kinds of music with the exception of the major awards of Album of the Year, Song of the Year etc...which encompass broad categories.

On another note of interest U2 has continously supported some of the most "anti-corporate" voices in music for as long as I can remember. How you might ask? They give these bands an audience of tens of thousands to gain exposure, one might say that opening for U2 is like winning a Grammy. Here are a few of the names that U2 have had open shows for them

Public Enemy
Rage against the Machine
The Beastie Boys
Fun lovin Criminals
Little Steven
Garbage
Kanye West

and countless others. Why is it that Rage Against the Machine or Public Enemy would want to open for a band like U2? R E S P E C T. If Rage against the Machine likes U2 you know they are NOT, MAINSTREAM CORPORATE SLAVES!!! Get a grip on the facts please.

The second link should serve as enough proof as to whether or not Bono and the boys walk it like they talk it. Yesterday they received the "Ambassador of Conscience" Award from AMNESTY FREAKIN INTERNATIONAL. Thank You, Goodnight.

Quotes from "Hour" December 15-21 issue pages 10 and 12:

Ilana Kronick: If God could take back a musician/band/DJ, who should it be? That would be Bono, for posing as God.

Dylan Young: Biggest, dickiest rock star move - U2 frontman Bono remains oblivious to the sickening power trip of pulling doe-eyed fans onto the stage and crooning just for them. Yeah, dude, go ahead and be the defining moment in some poor soul's life, then go save the world. Jesus!

Mike Chamberlain: Biggest, dickiest rock star move - Practically everything Bono does. Who died and named him Bob Geldof? Is it not enough that he's the frontman for the world's most overrated band?

Sheesh - what's wrong with these music journalists - don't they know that Saint Bono's mother died? Don't they know that his band has 6 Grammy nominations? My God, it's almost as if they don't CARE. In fact, it's almost as if they have the intelligence to make up their own minds instead of buying the corporate rock party line. Inexcusable!
