Over the summer in the states we had anywhere from 30-70 thousand new cases a day. Deaths were around 500-1,500 per day. The USA, Mexico, Canada, and pretty much the rest of the world kept their borders closed. With the vaccines slowly but surely making its way into peoples arms I was curious as to what numbers or statistics we think the different governments will want in place before borders are really considering to be open. Obviously now or anytime in the next couple of months there’s no chance of this with most countries surging. But I was trying to foresee what the world will look like when we are allowed to travel to different countries “freely” again. Maybe a universal vaccine card but only when new cases are below a certain number per capita along with temperature checks and random Covid tests. I don’t think it’s going to be as simple as showing my NEXUS card and cruising through customs like it was back in the pre Covid days.

wont be free like that until maybe 2022. depends one on how quickly we embrace the vaccine.

but one thing the governments and well definitely the airlines would vouch for before then is proof of vaccination and youre free to fly.
proof of vaccination and youre clear for customs entry... lets see what the governments decide around perhaps march-april 2021 perhaps.

Look behind you.
I do not think it is the right of the airlines to not allow nonvaccinated people on a plane, I am guessing it would be the country they are flying into who would have that right, and it is not even a right.

they've had this year, a policy of, no face covering, no boarding. maybe not all carriers, but definitely some.
i agree, and presently they do not make it a policy. as vaccinations only started being injected 'now'.

in the future, it would make sense if you either allow flying and still apply the quarantine (14 days or whatever, any takers??? not many) or lets see proof of vaccination... or, retain the no face covering = no boarding,

then leave the proof of vaccination for arrivals to validate.

requirement of a negative test result to board has already been the idea this year.

If countries want to jumpstart travel tourism asap, which i am not sure that they do the next 90 days but maybe the next 90 days after the present 90 days, vaccination requirement might be the assurance way to go even if the positivity rates have not yet come down because it seems like at least for the moderna vaccine, it reduces asymptomatic spread by 2/3.

No boarding? That would ruin the inflight entertainment.
I am flying back on the 21st and my last 3 flights required masks on at all times unless eating or drinking.... I had quite a few drinks on those flights

Did you see the family of three get dragged off a United flight because their daughter of 2 wouldn't keep her mask on? A 2-year old's not going to keep a mask on. With all the contact tracing studies they have determined that young children are not a vector for transmitting the disease.

The COVID-19 travel restrictions in place at the Canada-U.S. land border are being extended for another month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Tuesday.

Trudeau confirmed that the current border restrictions will now remain in effect until Feb. 21, 2021. He said this "important decision" was taken to keep citizens on both sides of the border safe as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Canada and the United States.

"Our focus since the start of this pandemic has been protecting you and your family. Whether by procuring vaccines or by bringing in strict travel and border measures, our priority is your safety," Trudeau said.

Wonder if it will open by Christmas. I assume smokin joe will give JT all the excess vaccines. If I was JT I’d start contemplating how exactly to roll the shit out and come up with contingency plans, not sure pretty boy is gonna be thinking any of this

The lack of urgency in how Trudeau has approached vaccine roll out overall has been frustrating.
I hope he is pitching Biden on getting the excess for the sake of the border but I doubt we are first in line.
Trudeau should be copying Biden's approach of Federal backstop and coordination. I get that we have a more province-centered approach, but the Feds could definitely be providing additional support for hard to reach areas or general supply and distribution.

Does anyone know if the border will be open soon to those with Covid vaccination cards? I just got my first Pfizer vaccination and after #2 in 4 weeks I feel like Canada should be opening the borders for those who have vaccination cards and can prove they are vaccinated. Does anyone know when the border will be open to those with vaccination cards?

I suspect they will open up when a considerable portion of their own population is vaccinated. But this is JT so who knows. What is the status of those in Canada’s long term care facilities and those 65 and up? When those peeps are good to go, the border should be open and likely will. Can’t see that happening before Labour day EB. Smokin Joe givin JT all his AZ vaccines should speed this along hopefully. This of course is just my guess, but my guesses are always correct.

If I had to guess I'd say the end of May. In the last two weeks, Quebec has gone from 15k doses administered per day to 40k. Should top 1 million overall by Monday. It should be 50k within the week and they're shooting for 70k/day by the first of May. Plan is to have 1 dose in everybody by June 24, which coincidentally is the date I'm scheduled for my second, some 13 weeks after the first. Getting jabbed here without a health card was without problem. To date there has been zero public discussion of opening the border to the vaccinated. And believe me, I'm watching like a hawk.

Hey EB, the Pfizer vaccine second shot is taken in 3 weeks, the Moderna vaccine second shot is taken in 4 weeks. Maybe they changed the protocol, but my second Pfizer vaccine was 3 weeks.

That was never the protocol. It was (and is) a MINIMUM of 3 weeks apart, not a maximum of 3 weeks apart. All of the Pfizer vaccine appointments being booked by Walgreens are spaced exactly 4 weeks apart to the day, including mine (it's within 15 minutes of being 4 weeks to the hour). My father got his Pfizer vaccine in January and February at a hospital in CT and his appointments were also spaced 4 weeks apart.

Interesting, maybe it's because of a supply issue or to get as many first shots in arms as possible. The recommended timeline was always 3 weeks according to the CDC. In NY when you look at the state website you can tell which vaccine you can get by the timeline of the second shot. 3 week, 4 week, and one shot, Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson. Up to 42 days is permissible when a delay is "unavoidable". I'm just glad you were able to get the vaccine. Congrats.

Waloo, I had ZERO discretion in booking the appointments they were automatically 4 weeks apart. If you book on the Walgreens website you book both appointments at once and when you book the first one you go to the next page and are then given a choice of time slots on the date 4 weeks out from the first one. There is no option of picking another date- 4 weeks is automatic. I am sure the CDC is mandating what Walgreens is doing and they are not operating autonomously on this very, very serious public health matter.

Now back to the subject at hand I want Canada to start thinking about letting in those who have been vaccinated and can produce their vaccination records. This is tourist money to juice Canada's economy and that's what JT needs to be thinking about. Help the local economies and give them a boost with some tourist money.

Could have been because in NY the state allows pharmacies to only vaccinate I think 70 and over, the rest is executed and monitored by the state. And yes, we are vaccinated, open up the fucking border already so we can drop some cash on the SP's and bars of Montreal! That is once they get rid of the curfew.
