Cave du Sexe

I think I spent about 15 minutes once in Cave du Sexe; it was one of the sleaziest Montreal clubs I was ever in in that era.

Wanda's when they first opened the second floor in the mid 80s, was a hot place to spend a weekday afternoon if they trusted you. There was a dancer named Claudia who really learned how to push the limits of that era. The dancers, I think, used to have to pay off the bouncers if they wanted any freedom, but the ones who did got away with a lot...

I remember a club somewhat uptown on the main perhaps. The girl took a shower in transparent shower booth. Was there one time.

A couple of clubs were doing that for a time. The club next door to Chateau de Sexe, long gone, had a shower set up like that and some of the duo shows were pretty hot.

Then there was Caesars Palace, I think was the name, that had a girl in a giant aquarium and foxy boxing where I saw a girl get her teeth knocked out one night. That was the last time I went there.

It's amazing how many clubs have come and gone in Montreal over the years, I remember one on St-Paul in Old Montreal called the Marquis de Sade that was very classy and lasted about three months, and I tried to check out each and every one of them. :p

When Wandas first opened the newly expanded club, they had an open bar daytime until 7 PM for the first two weeks and dances were 2 for 1! I think I spent two weeks drunk out of my mind! :p

If only I knew...
There used to be a stripclub on Iberville, near the bridge, circa 1987-8. That's where I went for my first Montreal SC experience. If I recall, it was near a fire station, second floor.

I recall how intimidated I was with the big steel door, the need to be buzzed-in after the huge gorilla checked you out by the small window... I sat down, not really knowing how things worked. I actually ordered my drink from one of the stripper! To this day, I still don't know if that was the way it worked at that bar! After a few $5 table dances, I got out of there, scared shit I would get mugged on my way back to my car!

Haaa... When you're 20yo!

Drinks

One of my favorite stripclub memories was shortly after Chez Paree opened as a public stripclub in the early 80s: there was a power blackpout -- no windows, no emergency lighting, totally dark. Eventually someone found a few candles and put them on stage. The dancers sang campfire songs in the candlelit darkness and the managers offered free champagne to anyone who would stay through the blackout -- that lasted about 45 minutes or so. Most guys stayed! It was rather rustic in those days: no chrome or mirrors.

There was also such a club on Rachel Street, West of St-Denis, I don't remember the name.

Concerning La cave du Sexe the owner was a former cop. He also had another club on Park Avenue, just North of Laurier. The club still exists. There was also a club on Park Avenue (right on the corner of Laurier) where there is now a Renaud Bray. Still on Park Avenue, on the West side and on the second floor (in the early 90's) there was also a club near Bernard.

Concerning clubs that didn't last long, the most famous case is Ultra Sex on the corner of St-Cath and St. Laurence. Another one (I don't even remember the name) was located just after the Pont-Viau bridge (I'm not speaking of the sleazy Hotel Wanda), it was on the East side of Des Laurentides.

20??? You started late! I was 17 when I started going to the shack.:p

Actually now that I think about it, that was before SuperSexe opened and long before Chez Paree opened. Back then I think the only downtown clubs were Filles d'Eve and the Shack. Then SuperSexe and Charmeuses opened, Filles d'Eve burned down and re-opened years later on the ground floor of where Club Downtown is now, the Shack closed and then Chez Paree opened. Charmeuses closed and moved to where the Shack had been and changed name to Sexe-si-bon, and Chez Paree opened.

Then everything seemed to open up and clubs started appearing everywhere, few of which lasted very long or changed names a lot.

And let's not forget the 888 Club which featured only Asian dancers and you had to buy tokens to exchange for dances because the girls weren't permitted to handle money or even hold on to their own passports. That place was one of the lowest points in SC history in this town.

Almost forgot! There was a short lived, but incredibly beautiful SC that opened diagonally across from Wandas on the north east corner of de la Montagne where Montreal's Playboy club and then Club September had been located. It was opened by a former manager of SuperSexe and tried to steal the top dancers from the main clubs such as SuperSexe, Wandas and Chez Paree. This place started a little SC war and it came out the loser because the other clubs basically blackballed the dancers who went to work there so eventually their talent dried up and the club closed.

L'Empire du Sexe on Notre Dame Est in Montreal East around Broadway.
Early 80`s . There was a backroom. The girls were good looking at first, it went downhill with time. I remember walking on a very hot humid Saturday afternoon, just when it opened. It smelled of twat. I guess the sweat drenched girls had just walked in, taken off their panties and spread their legs to air it out. The AC hadn't had time to circulate the air. In those days a lot of cars & hacks had no AC.

Separation

I forgot that dancers used to be waitresses too, once upon a time. When they had a dance going, of course, they forgot they were supposed to be waitresses too; the owners eventually noticed this built-in conflict of interest.

Touch

The conflict of interest issue was a very minor consideration since the girls would cover for each other and they would drive drink related sales since the guy would buy a drink for dancer The basic issue was the contact dancing.

Before contact dancing the dancers were employees getting a salary of some sort plus what they could earn. Once contact dancing came on the scene the owner of the club required a distinct separation between himself, the corporate entity ( the club) and the girl's activity. Paying a salary precluded this separation. As long as the dancers were independent of the club without a contractual or salary link then the owner was not libel for their activities.

There was a long standing strip club in Lachine on the lakeshore just where Lasalle turned into Lachine and for the life of me I can't remember the name. But one day I decided to check out the day shift and went there on a Saturday afternoon. I walked in, ordered a beer and let my eyes become adjusted to the dark. Then I looked around and realized I was the only client in the club and the few girls were at a table in a corner looking pissed off that now they had to dance on stage. Finally one girl goes up and she must have been 7 months pregnant! That was the first and only time I left an almost full beer on the table and walked out of a club. I never went back there and it closed not long after.

The shortest time ever spent in a sc was at Sexe d'Or on Decarie. Walked in with a friend, sat down, looked around saw the worst looking dancers ever in a club and left before the waitress got to the table. Total time under 5 minutes. Years later I was working in the area and stopped in after work one day. The place was filled with beautiful dancers and I saw an absolute angel named Raven across the club and fell head over heals into a tumultuous love affair that lasted about a year. I actually shaved off my mustache for her that I had never shaved since it started growing in. It's amazing the things you do for a woman when you are younger and dumber. :p

Clubs stopped paying dancers well before contact dancing came into the picture. My ex was dancing at Wandas when they started making the change over by charging a bar service and even fining dancers for coming in late. Eventually they stopped paying them per shift and no more fines for being late and they lowered the bar service from about 50 to 25 dollars. But all of this preceded the era of legal contact dancing.

Illegal Contact

Clubs stopped paying dancers well before contact dancing came into the picture. My ex was dancing at Wandas when they started making the change over by charging a bar service and even fining dancers for coming in late. Eventually they stopped paying them per shift and no more fines for being late and they lowered the bar service from about 50 to 25 dollars. But all of this preceded the era of legal contact dancing.

The issue was illegal contact and the possibility of "takeout" . No bar owner that I ever knew wanted a link with the illegal contact and the ensuing liability..

You also had other issues once contact either legal or illegal was put on the table. Mainly these issues centered around who the dancers were. The former hotel bar girls who started dancing when contact became part of the game were used to paying for considerations at the hotel bar so why actually pay them when they set-up business in a club?

Contact customers spend less on the drinks and more on the dancer. Ain't drinking when you're touching. The cost of doing business shortfall for the club had to be replaced by somebody. That somebody was from those getting the greatest benefit.

Your Wanda's analogy has to be understood within a context and that is that there is never a shortage of dancers willing to pay for the opportunity to dance at the high end clubs.

Did any of you ever go to STATION 10? Not the cop shop, the bar. It was a rat hole, but they did not check IDs for under aged drinkers. There was also Gueistinnis SC in Montreal North they closed it down when they found 20 lbs of cocaine in the wall.

I remember a club in the early 90s at that location called Chic..used to go there sometimes..ok club..don't remember a shower tho, maybe that was earlier

Then there was Caesars Palace, I think was the name, that had a girl in a giant aquarium and foxy boxing where I saw a girl get her teeth knocked out one night. That was the last time I went there.

I remember seeing tv ads late at night on CFCF-12 for that place in the early 80s..Nick's Sexquarium..it was funny seeing the girls swimming in the aquarium!..that club was still there on St Laurent near Solid Gold until last year (the aquarium was long gone)..a real dive..went thru numerous name changes..Caesar's Palace, L'Excitation, Baby Blue and finally Tantra.. last I heard it's now a rap/hip hop bar

There was also a sc in Lasalle for many years in the 80s/90s at the shopping centre on Lafleur when you got off hwy 20..in front of the Harveys..went thru many name changes-don't remember any of them..

But what was probably my fav Montreal sc of all time was the Hollywood Bar on Taschereau blvd in Brossard..this was in the mid-90s and was one of the first straight sc's to have contact..that place was fantastic..tons of hot young dancers..place got torched and is now a Scores I think..

can't believe nobody's mentioned Studio 300 on st-rose in Laval..legendary place..

between you and "them"
"Le pommeau d'or "used to be full of "off the boats" workers from Phillipina...smallest club ever been in, on 2nd floor, very small stage, may be 20 tables, small bar,2-3 girls top,on 1st floor was a big disco."Sextuple" on St-Laurent blvd,"Miss Dorion",decades ago was nice place, there was one hot place in Valleyfield cannot recall name...Those were the good old days, when dancers were untouchables and getting one to go out with you was like winning the lottery...
Massage salons in those days...there was the "Madame Claude"in Ile Perrot, real classy joint owned by italian mob...then as time went, numerous ones in Laval,Le Gardeur...with regular police raids,a very upscale one in Bois des Filions opened for years rumoured to be owned by bikers, never raided...?a few dives in Longueuil also visited by police often...One renowned "madam"of the 80's still in business today .......Lots of memories...

I have been to Nicks Place, they use to have a 5 x 5 ft aqarium where the naked girls would swim around in the bacteria frapp. My buddy and I use to take bets on whick dancer would have a few bubbles float up from an orifice as they swam around in the aqarium

There use to be a strip club near St. Denis and St. Catherine. It had a conveyor hook system in the ceiling where a girl was hooked to a platter and flew arond the club naked. It looked very dangerous and a girl could have fallen off on top of a customer at any time. The place may have been called the Caleche du Sexe, I am not sure now.

Yep right! Caleche du sexe,i remember that. You could not have that today, they would be sued...And there was so many talent agencies shipping all those girls from one town to the next, and in small towns far from the big cities you had these hotels with bar/dance area on one floor and rooms upstairs where you could get FS from some of the girls, they would give a cut to the barman,i guess. And the ones where you would get into a secluded corner and touch the privies of the girl for xtras, the doorman would avert his eyes and surely get a tip...there was one in Ste-angele-de-premont in an old sugar shack: on the reception side you had a stage, stools for dancing and bar and in the kitchen a bed...but none of that on sunday ,that was the day/night where the guys would bring their wives, this being the only game in town...on wet days there was a 4 by 4 on stand-by to pull the cars to the place or out of it since it was deep in the wood on a bad dirt road...
