Hello all
How about Michael Shumacher 7 consecutive formula 1 championships ? seven-time Formula One (F1) World Champion and is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.[1][2][3][4] He was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year twice.[5] He holds many of Formula One's driver records, including most championships, race victories, fastest laps, pole positions and most races won in a single season – 13 in 2004 (the last of these records was equalled by fellow German Sebastian Vettel nine years later). In 2002, he became the only driver in Formula One history to finish in the top three in every race of a season and then also broke the record for most consecutive podium finishes. According to the official Formula One website, he is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen"

BookerL,

How about Joey Chesnut's 8 consecutive Coney Island Hot Dog Eating titles which also include the world record of 69 hot dogs eaten?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joey_Chestnut
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/07/joey-chestnut-nathans-hot-dog-contest

If that is not impressive enough, Chesnut also ate 384 Gyozas to set the world record for Gyoza consumption:

I would like to see you try to break these records, BookerL.

BOYZ,

If you examine the Red Sox and their fall from World Series heroes to last place goats, you have to ask what happened. Well, they lost their leadoff guy Jacoby Ellsbury and they did jackshit to replace him until they just signed the Cuban dude to $70 million.

Another self-serving Yankee gloating perspective. The big error is in missing the fact Ellsbury was with the team in 2012 when they finished last, and though he was injured early his return from the middle of the year didn't change a thing. If Ellsbury is all one is going to point to for 2014 when citing the Sox current last place standing it's an exceedingly uninformed view that is badly disproportionate.

As to what is happening now, Cherington made some bad calls. Getting rid of catcher Saltalamacchia who was steady .255 to .260 hitter (.273 in 2013) with some power, signing Sizemore who was a failure, signing Pierzynski who was an on field failure and a very bad club house influence, believing that players like Nava would continue his career year of 2013, believing Bradly and Bogaerts would improve, hoping Napoli, Victorino, Middlebrooks would stay healthy and be steady power threats, of whom they were key contributors of 2013, and more have been injured, some it seems almost forever. Victorino has seen 30 games, Middlebrooks 40. In starting pitching Buccholz , Doubront, and Peavy were all very poor at the same time the team was not hitting. It's basically the same as 2012 with a lot of under-performing, injuries, and poor decisions. The idea that not paying oodles of money for Ellsbury had a large impact is a failure to account for a great deal more.

The signing of Cuban Rusney Castillo was the seizing of an opportunity to take the kind of rare dynamic player any team would like to grab and in fact the Yankees were very interested in him as a 2nd baseman. Prospects are he can run very well, hit for good average with some power, field and throw extremely well. How it will work out in AL baseball remains to be seen. Unproven players are always a gamble and some, like the Yankees Tanaka, can go guns a blazing until the stress of the grind shows a weakness, maybe a disastrous one.

The real problem was that by the beginning of June the team brass had decided it was time to go into full rebuilding mode bring up young players, of which 6 or 7 pure rookies have been starters. The trading of Lester and Lackey just emphasized the fact the team had thrown in the towel for the year.

To the topic:

As I first called it, the DiMaggio streak of 56 straight games with a hit may be the toughest to break in sports. But like everything else it also took some fortunate and unfortunate bounces to turn out that way. During the streak many baseball writers and analysts at the time thought there were two games in which DiMaggio got calls he might not have if he hadn't been on a streak. Perhaps the feeling was let's be sure it's a clear cut case and avoid robbing a star. Then again in game 57 "on July 17, 1941, Indians third baseman Ken Keltner made two fantastic plays to rob the Yankee Clipper of a couple hits" after which DiMaggio went 16 straight more games with a hit. Maybe that's some kind of balance.

“I think this is a great day, a fantastic performance, I am very happy that Renaud did this record in my home city where I did 6.15,” the 50-year-old Bubka said on BFM TV. “I'm very happy and proud for him, because he's a great athlete and a fantastic role model."

Bubka still holds the outdoor record at 6.14 meters, set in 1994.

True, but I don't buy into this indoor-outdoor thing too much. First, many days are the equivalent of being indoors, second, being indoors sometimes takes away from the strength of some athletes. That Bubka broke the outdoor record 17 times and the indoor record 18 times shows a pretty good balance of conditions. So I say the record is the record, indoor/outdoor just creates a debate, nothing more that could be provable.

We should take into account Ty Cobb's career batting average. Consistently hitting over .300 for a number of years makes one a star. Hitting .367 one year is astounding. Ty Cobb averaged .367 for his entire career over 3000 games. That's freaking astonishing! Then there's Ted Williams career OBP at .482. For 11 years he did better than .479, and for 10 of those 11 he was at .496 or better.

http://www.complex.com/sports/2013/...t-consecutive-games-played-in-mlb-history-263

One site chose Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak 2,632 the most unbreakable record. Considering the necessity of longevity (maintaining skills to warrant playing) and health, I find that hard to argue against.

Cheers,

Nascar...7 time champs Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt...that will probably stand for a long time...if not forever...as the drivers nowadays don't seem to last as long.Out.

Hasn't Jimmy Johnson won 6 and not even turned 40 yet? Is he a piece of shit in your eyes? He is #5 in points this year and in striking distance for championship#7:

Agree, things are quite simple, Lavillenie = 6,16m / Bubka = 6,14m.

Even you only focus on outdoor record, we can't say that Bubka record is unbreakable when you see what Lavillenie (only 27yo) is able to do right now...

Hi all

I do agree to say that Bubka's record is not unbreakable ,however the international organism that sanctions track & field performances the IAAF splits the outdoor performances from indoors http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/jumps/pole-vault/outdoor/men/senior/2014

The athlete may poses the qualities to break the record but until its done the previous stands ,facts cannot be debated ,possibilities and probabilities that's another story !
A very famous saying from the legendary baseball hall of famer "It ain't over 'til it's over." In July 1973, Berra's Mets trailed the Chicago Cubs by 9½ games in the National League East. The Mets rallied to win the division title on the final day of the season

Warmest Regards

You didn't talk about outdoor nor indoor in your first post, so you put the discussion on the overall record that is now Lavillenie's one : 6,16m.

Yes I do agree I did not talked about it ,since its a well known fact that indoor and outdoor records are kept separatly ,its not something new and I am not removing anything from any ones performance I am only showing the way IAAF
consider it I am not arguing if its right or wrong!

Hi EB your are asking me this with so much pride have you beaten the records in private ?
I am more the athletic type, then the eating type so the record is pretty safe with me !
My personal record Bench Press is 465 lbs
My dead lift sumo style 545 lbs
And my barbell curls 225 lbs
Front military press 315 lbs
Hack squat 540 lbs
And for Gyozas 0 and it will remain at 0
Has for Hot-Dog they are called roteux in Quebecois, and I do not eat roteux !
But I can offer to supply you 70 in your attempt to break the record .
I have sponsored athletes before ,I would gladly support your quest at a WORLD RECORD that you could cherish !:thumb:

The most Cup by a player one team Henri the pocket rocket Richard from the Montreal Canadiens !Unlikely will ever be broken !:thumb:
The Jean Beliveau 17 Cups rings 10 as a player ,After his playing days were over, Béliveau remained with the Canadiens team as an executive and goodwill ambassador. Béliveau's name appears on the Stanley Cup a record seventeen times, including seven times as an executive for the Canadiens: 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993

Who can say better ?

Good Luck

No hate, just shock that you would so disrespectfully ignore someone who is likely to eclipse the Petty/Earnhardt record in an era in which that record is much harder to achieve given the money now at stake and interest in the sport.

I think nobody talked about the world major sport : soccer.

Just Fontaine scored 13goals in 1World Cup, which is really an unbreakable record.

Pelé scored more than 1250goals in his carreer. In 1959, he scored 126goals in one season...

I am not trying to stir any pot, and you saying so dodges appropriate criticism of your post which makes no sense and should be obvious to everyone on the board as making no sense. Out of one side of your mouth you say you think the record of 7 NASCAR championships is LIKELY UNBEATABLE and then you tell us Jimmy Johnson MAYBE will do it.

.the title of the thread is about RECORDS that are LIKELY unbeatable...........Maybe he will...

Which is it???? The record is not likely unbeatable if he may do it. I don't think the topic is an appropriate discussion piece in this thread. Johnson has probably 8-10 years to win 2 more. He can do it. Therefore it is not likely unbeatable or unbreakable. And stop trying to defend nonsense you have posted by going on the attack against others.

I dont think EB was being a hater at all and his post was very well thought out and done appropriately to the subject at hand. Btw 6 is not far from 8, especially at JJ's age.
EagerBeaver..

No...Jimmie Johnson is not "a piece of shit" in my eyes.
The title of the thread implies "unbreakable" sports records.
Jimmie Johnson has won 6 Championships and may very well win a 7th.
But in order to break the standing record...he would need to win an 8th.
Time will tell.

Don't be such a hater man...it'll get you banned...again.

Out.

Body building competition

Hi all

The record stands at 8 straight by two
The Mr. Olympia was created in 1965 by Joe Weider to determine who was the greatest bodybuilder in the world. Since that year, a total of 13 different bodybuilders have staked claim to the title of Mr. Olympia. Two of those bodybuilders, Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman, hold the record for the most victories at eight a piece. And, only one of those 13 bodybuilders, Jay Cutler, was able to regain the title after losing it.

Henri Richards 11 Championships as a player is virtually impossible nowadays for anyone to approach, let alone challenge.

People here are mentioning Ted Williams as holding some kind of a record an while he was the last guy to hit .400, the all-time record holder is Hugh Duffy who in 1894 had an incredible batting average of .440!!! Mind you this was in only 125 games played, yet he racked up a total of 237 hits in those games. In the modern era ie from 1903 on (aka the year of the first World Series and baseball as we know it today) Rogers Hornsby hit .424 in 1924 and is widely regarded as the all-time mark to beat.
