The Miracle at Medinah: the European comeback victory in the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah CC in Chicago. Late on the penultimate day, it looked like the Europeans were toast. But Ian Poulter, paired with Rory McIlroy in the day's last match, canned a run of long putts to win that match for the euros and keep them within shouting distance, and going into the final day matches with some momentum. Things looked bad the next morning because Rory had not yet shown up at the course with under 30 min until his tee off. Turns out he had "slept in" (we can all try to imagine for ourselves how his Saturday night and Sunday morning may have been occupied!). But a local police officer violated several traffic ordinances in rushing Rory to the course in time. He won his singles match and his teammates mounted one of the most inspired displays of team dominance that day that we have ever seen
