Montreal has a distinct quality to it. I think it's because I've lived here all my life.. it's a medium size city that tourists keep reducing to the old port, yet it's really easy to discover new neighborhoods which all have their unique flavor.
The fact that it's an island is interesting in itself. We don't live near a large lake or the ocean, but it's nice to be surrounded by water. We do have some nice parks and I think what's really interesting about them is their atmosphere rather than their beauty.
We have many festivals and they are easily accessible. Lots of cool venues and things to do.
I do want to leave Montreal one day but I'm glad I'm here instead of, say, Ottawa....

Potholes, poutine, festivals and yes, the decline, rapid and steady. Too many years of poor, shortsighted and xenophonic decision making.
Yes for these! Especially the park. I love summer here when everyone is outside eating, playing or just chilling!
Montreal is a party city so a lot of people stay here because they are just fun and creative individuals.
I did notice some differences in the last 2 years, people being more aggressive and the rise of hateful comments... But I'd rather focus on positive things right now.
I've met real soulmates in Montreal and even tho I may have parted ways with some of them, they will remain in my heart forever.
I might try to go swimming this week if it gets really hot outside.
Ah some lesser known spots in Montreal that I find enjoyable in the summer.. ile de la visitation, ste anne de bellevue, page du cap st jacques, parc angrignon. I've lived in Montreal in my entire life.
Yes those are nice places.
I will add: René-Lévesque Park in the old Lachine and is a mini Montréal island!
And most of the small area in Cap-Saint-Jacques on the West Island.
