I have had Pool Room and Decarie hot dogs and found them to be very ordinary. However I am used to eating hot dogs with chili, cheese, kraut, chopped bacon and onions, and you just don't have that level of options in Montreal. The best I have had is Super Duper Weenie, which was ranked in the top 10 hot dog purveyors in the USA by USA Today. But at all the good hot dog stands here you can have them put chili, cheese, relish, bacon, onions and hot sauce on the hot dog, you can supersize it to 12 inches, and in Montreal that level of detail just doesn't exist at the places I have been to. They be just serving a plain hot dog. And it's usually steamed and not split and grilled like it should be. Again, this is not the kind of cuisine one should be looking for in Montreal. It's just not a strength of the city like bagels or crepes or smoked meat or poutine. In sports you try to play to your strengths and stay away from the weaknesses, and same should be applied in seeking out cuisine in Montreal.
