If you like Schwarzenegger movies there was an older one I had not seen in a long while called "Eraser". It's typically brutal, with conspiracy twists again, but it's solid Arnold.

Me, I can't wait to see how Hacksaw Ridge will turn out on the screen. The story shows humanity what it is to have absolute courage in standing by your moral principles and yet fearlessly putting your life on the line without conflict between either.

Hacksaw Ridge

Finally a story and a movie that redefines what absolute courage and honor really is, instead of the traditional opposite that always glorifies killing and slaughter. It starts slow to show the heart and devotion of a man to his beliefs in the face of societal ideals that would have him labeled a coward. Then all who scorned him come to the realization Private Doss has taken a a far more difficult path beyond their understanding until they witness how he fulfills his beliefs with more courage than the anyone.

The battle scenes will make Saving Private Ryan look tame. You may think you are used to blood and gore in movies until you see it in it's starkest reality, not just as an element to satisfy obligatory violence to let you feel you got your money's worth. Any soldier can charge in with a gun surrounded by his buddies. Can you do it unarmed, alone, and surrounded by the enemy to save the lives of others.

‘Hacksaw Ridge’ Review

Throwback war film among best, bloodiest of the year

http://freebeacon.com/culture/hacksaw-ridge-review/

Mel Gibson’s first directorial effort since the sadly underrated Apocalypto does not feel like a particularly ambiguous examination of the horrors of war. Doss the pacifist may be the protagonist, but he (and we) are glad that he’s surrounded by grunts willing to wield weapons to keep him safe while he drags the wounded from the battlefield. The movie is, instead, a straight-ahead celebration of honor and virtue and sacrifice.
As I said, a bit old fashioned. But undeniably effective. And one of the best pictures of the year.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

I watched this great Disney movie last night and it has to be one of the greatest movies of all time considering the year it was made. I hadn't seen this movie in nearly 45 years!!!

It's about a beautiful young princess who spends time living with 7 dwarfs while hiding from the evil queen. I won't say more since i don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.

Highly recommended!!! :D

ARRIVAL.

People need to read the reviews to know what they are getting as I did. I almost passed on it, but I went. The theater was 100% full. That surprised me. When it was done I heard some people make noises showing they didn't care for it much. That didn't surprise me.

If you want slam bam action don't go. If you hope to see we humans win another one in near apocalyptic victory don't go. This one is very emotional, cerebral, heart-tugging. It will fill you with questions, most of which only lead you imagining possibilities without clear answers. Yes, it's very dramatic if you are the kind who doesn't need the easy solution of big action and conflict to feel drama. The movie tends to have a similar feel to the old classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still". There's fear of the unknown, panic, but no Gort the robot who could destroy the world. That element plays out in how humans react to not knowing what to expect, but there is no moral lesson as in the old film. It's more like don't make presumptions based on fear...take a risk and open yourself to the possibilities.

Overall: 7 of 10

Olympus Has Fallen

I watched this movie last night since i wanted to watch its sequel (London Has Fallen) on Netflix, but i wanted to watch the first movie first. It stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman. Terrorists attack the White House and all hell breaks loose. The story reminded me of the first Die Hard movie with a different setting. A younger Bruce Willis would have been great in the main role. I'm getting tired of Morgan Freeman playing Presidents over and over. In this case, he's the acting President since the President is being held hostage by a rogue korean terrorist.

It was a very good movie and i was told that the sequel is even better.

Olympus Has Fallen

I've seen that one several times. It's pretty good. There's a competing one called "White House Down" with Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. It's decent but not as good, and a little cheesy at the end.

There was a movie on today before I went out called "Parker" with Jason Statham and Mike Chiklis. It's hardcore action about some savage thieves who betray one of their own who comes back looking to get even. A Brutal no holds barred movie.

I did see 'White House Down' when it first came out and liked it very much. It was made in Montreal, by the way. I know a few people who participated in the shooting. They had talked to me about the movie at the time and i was anticipating for it to come out.

As for "Parker", i don't believe ever seeing it. But i do love Jason Statham's movies. I saw the sequel to 'The Mechanic' this past summer and really liked it.

Saw this movie tonight....thought it was decent (both the acting and directing are really good). The "revelation" in the end, I sort of saw coming by the midpoint of the film. They were avoiding mentioning certain things and there was only one possible explanation for a certain identity they hadn't revealed yet (being as vague as possible to avoid spoilers).

Anyways, its worth checking out, but it's also definitely a "slow-burn" movie. So we prepared for that for anyone thinking about seeing it.

Avengers- Civil War

I saw this one from Netflix and was a bit perplexed by it.

No Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper, something about her not liking dealing with all of Iron Man's publicity and seeking the quieter life. Sounds like a wimpy excuse to me.

No Incredible Hulk and no Thor, so 2 key Avengers are missing in action and no real explanation of where they are, and quite honestly I forgot what happened to them in Ultron.

No Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, not even in a cameo so that we can know he is okay and not dead.

To make up for no Hulk and Thor they added Spiderman as a new Avenger but he is not played by Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire, instead they got some snarky 18 year old kid to do the job and he seemed too cartoonish to me. They also added Ant Man, who is also kind of a twerp. There was an attempt to have these 2 characters add some humor to the mix but it failed.

At its core, the movie is about a political conflict between Captain America and Iron Man and the Avengers take sides with one or the other. Basically this movie was okay but nothing special in my opinion.

London Has Fallen

After watching 'Olympus Has Fallen', i had to watch its sequel which is now available on Netflix. So i watched it Saturday evening.

Fantastic movie!!!!!!!

It's even better than its prequel!! Main actors once again are Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart. This movie is non-stop action and is centred around a major terrorist attack on London, England.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205537/

I just caught this one for the first time. Chris Pine, Kenneth Branaugh, Kiera Knightly, Kevin Costner. An espionage movie. I thought it was well written, very well acted, and the pace alters between low key high tension and fast intense action with a very good story line. It's definitely worth a couple of hours passing the time.

The Accountant

I saw this movie recently and actually wound up enjoying it after nearly walking out of the movie theatre a half hour into it. The movie stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, John Lithgow & John Berenthal. Affleck plays the role of an autistic brilliant vigilante accountant. The movie is at its best during the action sequences. I'd rate it 3 out of 5 stars. I do recommend it.

Hacksaw Ridge

This great movie was directed by the brilliant Mel Gibson and stars Andrew Garfield in an Oscar-worthy performance. The movie is an actual true story (not 'based' on one) based on an army medic who was credited with performing heroic acts of bravery which saved dozens of his fellow soldiers during the battle of Okinawa in WWII. What was special about this character was that he refused to carry a weapon during his tour of duty.

I loved this movie so much that i rank it among the ranks of great modern day war movies in the mold of 'Saving Private Ryan'.

Mel Gibson deserves to be nominated for best director and best picture for giving us this great story. It's his best movie since the hugely popular 'Braveheart'. 'Hacksaw Ridge' may even be better. I give it 5 out of 5 stars and i highly recommend this great movie.

p.s. Vince Vaughn may also get a best supporting actor nod for his role as the platoon leader.

Mel Gibson is the same guy who brought us Braveheart and The Passion Of the Christ, which were epic films. I actually liked Apocalypto quite a bit, it's one of the best movies I have ever seen with almost no dialogue in it. He is a guy who knows how to make something that delivers on its promise. He brings intensity and passion to the film in a way that not many directors can do.

Hello EB, you have the title wrong, Its Captain America-Civil War, that is why there's no hulk or Thor. I did enjoy this movie, i have actually watched it several times and have picked up a few things each time. I am curious on which side these two would of taken and it would of been over quickly on both sides with these two involved.

Regardless of the name of the movie look at what they did: they subtracted two key Avengers (Thor and Incredible Hulk) and substituted two minor league Avengers (a young and inexperienced Spiderman and Ant Man). This is the equivalent to you name the worst trade in Major League Baseball history. Spiderman and AntMan did not add much to the fight. It's a trade that weakened the team and for what purpose? None that was ever explained.

Suicide Squad: I have watched this movie many times over, and it seems to get better each and every time. The characters seem to grow on, i hope there's a sequel.

And also, every time i watch this movie, a particular person pops into my head, Fantasia @ MSC, theres a particular connection between Harley Quinn and Fantasia.:p
