I saw Hacksaw Ridge recently and I thought it was excellent. I wasn't expecting much so it was a nice surprise.

I saw it a year ago and also found it excellent. I'd see it again.

Two weeks ago i finally saw "Dunkirk". Since it was filmed in IMAX i decided to watch it at an IMAX theatre and i found the filmaking to be absolutely spectacular! I also liked the originality in how the movie was made....part documentary style. It was directed by the brilliant Christopher Nolan (of the Dark Knight trilogy) and i'd be very surprised if it didn't receive many Oscar nominations. It's definitely a movie i'd watch again and it may not have been as good as "Saving Private Ryan" but that's already a very high bar to reach.

Carnage Park (2016)

Tonight I watched this offbeat horror film which is available on Netflix and just cracked the top 20 horror films of 2016:

https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/best-scary-horror-movies-2016

It's a homage to the schlock horror films that used to play at drive in theaters in the 1970s, centering around a deranged lunatic who terrorizes everyone that inadvertantly wanders onto his property in the California desert. It's creepy and imaginative in parts.

I liked it, but it's certainly not recommended for all tastes and I would take a look only if you are a chiseled horror film fan.

Big Little Lies (2017)

This isn't a movie but a 7-part miniseries which was produced & shown on HBO a few months ago. I had been told it would likely be a very good miniseries prior to its showing. But when i saw that the big name actors were pretty much all women i figured it was a series oriented towards women so i probably wouldn't be interested in watching it. Plus i was busy with other stuff to watch.

Well after the recent Emmys where it picked up several awards and nominations i figured maybe i should give it a chance and watch it. Plus the fact that the director was Montreal's Jean-Marc Vallee and i love his work. Well guess what?? I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found it so good that i watched all the seven one-hour episodes in two evenings. Once an episode would end i had to watch the next one! Since i had deleted the first episodes i had recorded on my pvr i had to watch it online via my Movie Network app. But while researching the series further online i discovered that it's already available on dvd and blue ray.

It stars the likes of Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard and Zoe Kravitz. The story starts off with a murder scene but we don't know who got murdered. The show is basically a long flashback which leads up to the murder in the final episode. Or was it a murder? It's a drama/murder mystery/suspense/comedy type of series.

Jean-Marc Vallee won the Oscar for directing. He was on popular Canadian french tv talk show 'Tout le Monde en Parles' last week and hearing them talk about the series made me want to watch it and thank god i watched "Tout le Monde en Parles" last Sunday evening!

Vallee also talked about the series' soundtrack and how he loved the music in it. The others agree and Vallee even stated that he had decided to make a soundtrack album out of it and it was selling quite well. I decided to download it and let me tell you i'll know what to put on the next time i'm in the company of a lady! ;)

It won 8 Emmys including for best drama miniseries, best actress, best supporting actress, best supporting actor and best director. I was a bit annoyed it had almost cleaned up all the awards the night i watched the Emmys but once i watched it now i know why it won so many of them. Reese Witherspoon was robbed of an award, by the way. Her performance was absolutely brilliant!

The series was produced by David E. Kelly, who also produced the fantastic "The Sopranos" for HBO. I highly recommend this great miniseries! :thumb:

Spider-man Homecoming.

Very well made. Last time I enjoyed a webslinger flick was Spiderman 2 with Tobey Maguire. The Tony Stark/Iron Man involvement was a great addition and compliment with the movie.

Hellions (2015)

If you are in the mood for a creepy Halloween-themed horror movie now that we are approaching that season, this Canadian made horror film should do the trick. Starring Robert Patrick of Terminator: Judgment Day fame and young Canadian actress Chloe Rose, it's about a young 17 year old girl who finds out she is pregnant on Halloween Day and is subsequently terrorized by evil trick or treaters who come over her house. The movie employs a creepy visual style and is sort of like a long nightmare from beginning to end. Recommended for horror film fans.

Backcountry (2014)

This Canadian made film is filmed on location in northern Ontario and is loosely based on the fatal black bear attack on Jacqueline Perry and Marc Jordan in northern Ontario in 2005. The plot of the movie is fictionalized and changes the details of this tragic event, but documents a trip to a very remote northern Ontario campsite by two young hikers. I would recommend the film only for those who have any interest in hiking and camping. The movie stands as a warning about what can happen when you go camping with no maps or cellphones, and get lost. Shit can happen in the wilderness and certainly does in this movie.

Hidden Figures - 2016

For those who like Math, Physics and Science, this movie relates to NASA and racism years in America. The story of 3 bright African American women during the pre and post years of the first American to reach the space. True story and very good movie I find.

Trailer : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK8xHq6dfAo

It is on Netflix currently.

Just saw Thor: Ragnarok and I liked it. It was pretty funny, you get to see the humorous side of Chris Hemsworth. Like with any comic book movie they made some pretty significant deviations from the source material but overall it was pretty good.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Over the weekend, I went with a friend to see this movie. All that I knew about it was that Woody Harrelson was in it, which is a selling point with me, because I think he is a fantastic actor and is consistently good in whatever part he is cast in. In this movie, he plays a similar character to the ones he played in "No Country For Old Men" and the "True Detective" TV Series, in which Harrelson also played southern USA law enforcement agents. In Three Billboards, he plays a well-liked small town Missouri Police Chief, who is being blamed by an angry mother (played by Frances McDormand) for the fact that the rape-murder of her daughter has not been solved after 7 months. This leads to the erection of the Three Billboards, and resulting conflicts. It's well done and well acted, but I did not really understand the ending of the movie, and I did not understand how this classic folk rock song from 1971 fit into the scene during which it was played in the movie:

Despite these questions and the unsatisfying ending, the film is worth seeing.

If you like Man on Fire with Denzel Washington you will love this kick ass movie with Jackie Chan called Foreigner. His daughter is killed in an IRA bombing in London and the rest of the movie is basically him getting vengeance against the IRA. Pierce Brosnan is great.

Doc, you're wrong about David E. Kelly producing "The Sopranos". The showrunner was actually David Chase. David E. Kelly produced shows like Ally McBeal, The Practice, Picket Fences, etc.

I did start Big Little Lies though....not bad (not really what I usually watch), but the quality is there (acting, production values, etc). Will probably continue to watch it.

Look behind you.
Take best out of the thread title.
Seen Black Panther at the IMAX last night, great sound quality and special effects ( minimal ), action minimal, slow dead section lots. This is not a super hero movie, it can be classified as a good drama movie with a little action and special effects.
Suoer hero movie 2 stars, drama movie 4 stars ( out of 5 )
Just my opinion.

Saw The Post yesterday. Figured everyone would go see Black Panther, turns out I was almost right.
It's typical Spielberg Period Piece, à la Bridge of Spies. Streep and Hanks are their usual selves, which is not bad in itself, but shouldn't be Oscar worthy in my opinion. Hanks in particular seems to be doing the same role every year.

It's overall good, although that third-to-last scene (iirc) was too ''YEAH FEMINISM GUYS''.

I'd put it at...7.5/10, provided you like the genre.
