Gravity Imax 3D

Today I saw Gravity in 3D at an Imax Theater. I thought the visual appearance of the movie in 3D was great, and this is the perfect movie to see in Imax 3D because the movie features objects that are hurtling through space at you at high speeds, and they look like they are going to hit you in the face.

Apart from the visuals, however, my feeling was that this movie is "Castaway in Space." I thought it was OK and entertaining but not great.

Good analogy. I also saw the movie, but on my television. I wish i would have seen in in 3D IMAX instead.

Saw Hunger Games Catching Fire: Generally good, but not great. Jennifer Lawrence (as always it seems) was great. I'm beginning to believe she's one of these actresses that comes along once in a generation. A total professional that's able to carry anything. Let's face it she's attractive, but not hot. Still again she's an exceptional actress and I look forward to seeing her for years. The storyline kept reminding me of the scriptures in many ways.....good vs. evil; different kinds of love; man vs. nature; man vs. man; man vs. God; etc..etc.. Frankly the ending left me a little flat. I won't spoil it for others, but it would make a good Friday Night pulling it from Amazon Prime. See it, just don't pay to see it at the theatre.

If you like war movies Lone Survivor was very good, supposed to be from actual events.

It was based on actual events until Marcus was rescued by the villager. From there it was a Hollywood ending. The actual ending (depicted in the book Lone Survivor) was much more interesting. I wonder why they decided or arrived at this ending?

500 Days of Summer. Reminds me why this damn hobby exists. And didn't realize how Minka Kelly is really attractive until now.

Enders Game. Pretty good movie. Not exceptional. Book was much better.

Rush (2014)

I saw this last week. It's directed by Ron Howard. It's about the formula one rivalry between racing greats Nikki Lauda and James Hunt. Lots of nudity and sex in the movie. Hunt was an insatiable sex machine (and party animal) until his premature death. The actor portraying the more serious Nikki Lauda looks a lot like him. Lots of good reacing scenes. Well made, but kind of cheesy. Still not as good as my favorite F1 racing movie of all-time, Grand Prix.

I agree that a great movie and after i read about Lauda and i was surprise to know when he left Scuderia Ferrari that was Gilles Villeneuves taken his place but too bad they dind't talk about Villeneuves but finally i overall this vovie 8/10

Very good idea. The thread, in order to attract traffic, wouldn't have to be limited to 'recent views' of a particular classic movie. It could also include recommendations, reviews & discussions.

Captain Phillips

I watched this movie last night & enjoyed it very much. Based on a true story, it stars Tom Hanks & it's directed by Paul Greengrass.

The movie tells the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

The movie is just over 2 hours in lenght & there isn't a boring moment throughout this very good, action-paced movie.

Highly recommended!

Lauda and i was surprise to know when he left Scuderia Ferrari that was Gilles Villeneuves taken his place

Ferrari was not thrilled that Lauda pulled out of the race

In 1977, they then hired the guy that filled in for him while he was in the hospital, as his co-driver

That guy was Carlos Reutemann..

Niki said that would be his last year @ Ferrari

When they reached Canada, Ferrari entered a third car for Villeneuve, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back..

Niki didn't finish the season, and then left for Brabham in 1978 to drive the " fan-car " ( Note the fan at the back of the car )

EB, i'd start a thread titled "Classic Movies". The movies being reviewed and discussed would have to be in the category of true classic movies, likely pre-80's.

Thanks for sharing informations Smuler i'am young and Villeneuve start his career when i was born so i dind't had a chance to follow him but i see some race he did and what amazing driver he was fearless..My teacher at Jim Russell racing school told me Villeneuve was the best on a wet track..Very bad he lived reckless and he paid the price i hope a producer should make a movie about his live and career..

I'm not the biggest fan of Sci-Fi, but the most recent Star Trek (Into Darkness) was superb. I left the theater thinking to myself, "Damn that was an excellent movie!" I haven't left a movie thinking that in years.

There are actually 2 movies I have seen recently that left an impact..The Wolf of Wall Street whose main character is played by Leonardo Decaprio and Don Jon starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Both of the said movies are funny and at the same time true. You should all see it.

American Hustle (2014)

I watched this movie last night & throughly enjoyed it. It stars Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence & Jeremy Renner. Directed by David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook), the story is about a con man, Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), along with his seductive British partner, Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams), is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.

Based on a true story of a well-known FBI undercover operation of the mid-to-late 70's (Operation Abscam), the story starts somewhat slowly where we first get to know the various characters and their backgrounds in regards to what led to them getting together.

The acting is performed brilliantly by every single actor in the movie. Adams & Bale are at the top of their game, and the same could be said of Cooper, Lawrence & Renner. I also loved the movie's soundtrack, which took me back to the disco days of the 70's.

David O. Russell has reunited some of his favorite actors from past movies he directed & the result has been brilliant!

I wouldn't be surprised if this movie won in the best movie category at the upcoming Academy Awards. I also expect awards to go to some members of the cast & quite possibly to the director.

The main reason the Alabama was boarded was because Phillips didn't stick to the proposed route...a decision that is now costing him even more grief...as the entire crew is taking him to court.

He was told to stay at least 600 miles out from shore which would have made the Alabama safe from pirates (their crude boats are not built for trips over 300 miles out). None of this is in the movie. This is what makes biopics like this problematic: the truth gets in the way of a good story. Ditto with Ben Affleck's movie Argo which fictionalized the plight of the American embassy workers who got stranded.
