Hunger Games 2

I watched this one last night. I thought the first hour and change of the movie was so much window dressing. Then in the last hour it morphed into a very watchable science fiction film. The scene where the characters are chased down the mountain by poisonous fog and the subsequent battle scene with the tribe of baboons were really good. I recommend fast forwarding to the fog scene and watch from there and you will see everything you need to know for the sequel. Just really disappointed that Philip S. Hoffman will not be in the sequel as his character showed promise.

I also thought Jena Malone was very hot in this movie. I would like to have sex with her although I know it is not possible. I think she is probably great in bed. I wish she could come to the GG parties. Iggy can you invite her?

That was a very good movie. I saw it twice several years ago. It starred Casey Affleck & Morgan Freeman. It was Ben Affleck's first directing job, if i remember correctly.

I watched Draft day last night. It stars Kevin Costner, Dennis Leary, Jennifer Garner & a cast of others incl. Roger Goodell. It's a very good & entertaining movie dealing with the NFL Draft. I absolutely loved it & even watched it again after i had just finished watching it! :thumb:

Last night i watched Edge of Tomorrow. It stars Tom Cruise & the beautiful Emily Blunt. It's a sci-fi action thriller involving the world's armies defending against an alien invasion. The movie was very well made & i found it surprisingly extremely entertaining. It had rave reviews when it came out & i now understand why.

Last night I went to see The November Man. I liked the title lol! It stars Pierce Brosnan as an ex CIA agent who comes out of retirement for one more mission. He must protect a valuable witness. A better than average spy thriller.

The Drop

I saw this movie last night. This is James Gandolfini's final performance and he has one of the lead roles in the film. It is a typical stellar performance playing the type of character he has become famous playing.

I really enjoyed the movie. The central character is a mild-mannered bartender at a Brooklyn bar played by English actor Tom Hardy. Hardy does a great job affecting a Brooklyn accent. This mild mannered bartender has a few things that he cherishes in his life, and those things become threatened by a phalanx of hoodlums who are connected to this Brooklyn bar. The movie is about the actions this mild mannered bartender is forced to take to protect what is important to him. Gandolfini plays his older cousin Marv.

Noomi Rapace, who was in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Swedish version (which features a revenge scene In which she uses a strap on dildo to fuck her rapist in the ass) has a nice supporting role as a down on her luck waitress who befriends the Tom Hardy character.

It's an extremely well acted character study, with several scenes of extremely brutal violence. The acting is top-notch. James Gandolfini left us with one of his better performances. Tom Hardy's performance is also terrific.

The Godfather #1 followed by The Godfather #2, number 3 was terrible

I think that IMDB has the Godfather Part I and Part II as the second and third best moves of all time. Rotten Tomatoes has Godfather Part I as the 2nd best and Part II as the 13 best movies of all time.

I just watched 12 Years a Slave. I understand that this is an actual true story and that the slave wrote his autobiography. I want to read this. I hope there was a lot of Hollywood writers embellishment because that was a horrible existence.

Wolf of Wall Street

I rented this one on Netflix and enjoyed it. It's a black comedy take on a true, real life story about guys who are running a stock brokerage firm that is using borderline or downright illegal sales tactics. Ironically, I have a good friend who worked on Wall Street and he claimed to have lived a social life in the 1990s that was similar to what the characters in this movie are doing. Those of you who went to GG2 met this friend of mine, and he and I and 2 other guys will be traveling to Montréal in the very near future.

There are 2 absolutely hysterical scenes in his movie: the one with Leo DeCaprio and Matthew McConaughie, in which the DeCaprio character is told that the 2 rules of Wall Street are to jerk off twice a day to keep the blood flowing and the focus level high, and the second is to do cocaine daily for energy and balls. The other hysterical scene is the one in which DeCaprio's character and Jonah Hill's character get high on high-end Quaaludes. The scene is a classic, especially how they filmed the 2 versions of what occurred that night: one as seen through the drug-addled mind of the DeCaprio character, and the other showing what actually happened in reality.

Have any of you guys tried quaaludes and if so so did you behave like the characters in the movie?

I give the movie a B+. Margot Robbie looks smoking hot as DeCaprio's girl in the film.

Gone Girl

I watched this great movie two days ago & i highly recommend it. It's a mystery-thriller based on a best-selling novel which stars Rosamund Pike & Ben Stiller as a couple in a troubled marriage where the woman suddenly mysteriously disappears and of course, they suspect the husband did it. Both actors are at the top of their game in this movie & i'd even go as far as saying that Pike's was a tour-de-force. It's directed by David Fincher, whose movies i always love! The movie did extremely well at recent film festivals (incl. Toronto's) and i expect it to gather a few nominations at the upcoming Oscars.

The critics loved it, I loved it, and the fans are flocking to the theatres to watch this excellent movie. Need i say more? I highly recommend it!!

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.

p.s. It's a bit longer than most movies, but making it shorter would have been damaging to the movie.

I just picked up the book "Gone Girl" on which the movie is based. I read that the movie has a very different story structure than the book, so I will hold off on the movie until I read the book. Which means I will probably need to wait until it comes onto Netflix in a few months.

This Is Where I Leave You

This comedy stars Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda & a cast of others. After their father dies, four siblings are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for 1 week, along with their mother and an assortment of spouses, girlfriends & others.

I had never heard of this movie & hadn't planned on seeing it. I'm not into comedies that much. I'm mostly into mystery/psychological thrillers & action movies which star Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington. When i first ventured to the movie theatre, i was contemplating on either viewing "The Equalizer" or "A Walk Among the Tombstones". Since i'm a huge Liam Neeson fan, i chose to watch his movie.

However, there was a bit of a surprise when i showed up at theatre #5 approximately 10 minutes before the start of the movie: I was totally alone in the movie theatre!!

Of course, the movie had been shown over the past two weeks, so i figured people were more interested at viewing the more recent movies, especially 'Gone Girl', which was sold-out on that particular evening.

However, ten to fifteen minutes later, people started showing up. After 20 minutes of previews, the theatre was more than half full. I couldn't wait for the movie to begin!!

Finally, lights out, popcorn, time to watch another Liam Neeson movie!!!

But no!!!!! Instead of 'Liam Neeson' in the opening titles, I see 'Jason Bateman', 'Tina Fey', 'Jane Fonda' and a cast of others!!! But no Liam Neeson!!

So i figured that maybe they had switched the movie since maybe the sales were bad, which i found extremely odd, to say the least.

It turns out that i actually enjoyed the movie. It kind of reminded me of a modern-day 'The Big Chill' in a funny way. The Jason Bateman character is the star of the movie and it's basically his story. It starts out when he catches his gorgeous wife getting fucked by his boss. He decides to leave her & then finds out that his estranged father has passed away. He heads to his hometown for the funeral & learns that one of his father's dying wishes was that all his children had to spend an entire week living together in their childhood home with their mother, played by Jane Fonda.

After walking out of the movie theatre, i checked my ticket, and indeed it indicated the Liam Neeson movie & theatre #5. I found this odd.

However, the following day i decided to watch "Gone Girl" and realized that there is a new VIP section. IMAX-sized screens, private bar, lazyboy lounging chairs inside the movie threatre and waiters/waitresses to serve you alcohol & any type of food. Cool!!!!!

I then realized that i had made a wrong turn on the previous day and that the movie i was supposed to see was being shown at the VIP level, which also has a theatre #5. So basically i paid $15 to watch a comedy in a regular movie theatre without all the VIP threatment. No big deal, since i wound up seeing a very good movie that i likely would have never bothered to watch in the first place.

My ratings: 2.5 stars out of 5.

I recommend it if you like these type of comedies.

I just picked up the book "Gone Girl" on which the movie is based. I read that the movie has a very different story structure than the book, so I will hold off on the movie until I read the book. Which means I will probably need to wait until it comes onto Netflix in a few months.

I had read that people who had read the book (at the time it was announced that a movie version of the book was in production) couldn't figure out how anyone would be able to view the movie without reading the book since it would be extremely confusing for most of them. However, after viewing the movie, they all agreed that the movie had been extremely well made & that you did not have to read the book to understand the movie properly. I agree, since i never read the book before i watched the movie & had no problems understanding it. I probably enjoyed the movie more because of this, since i didn't know what to expect and was actually surprised at several surprises in the movie.

I feel that anyone would do himself/herself a huge disservice if they read the book before viewing this great movie. It will take away the element of surprise, which is a key in enjoying this movie as much as i did.

Rosamund Pike's performance is Oscar-worthy. This former Bond girl has turned into a heck of an actress!!! I had read that Reese Witherspoon had lobbyied very hard for the part, but the part wound up going to Ms. Pike. As for Ben Affleck, he hasn't ceased to amaze me over the past few years. Not only has he become a great director (Gone Baby Gone, The Town, Argo), but he's now become part of Hollywood's A-list of leading men. I don't often say this, but the casting for this movie was brilliant!

As for director David Fincher, he's become one of my favorite directors. His credits include, 'The Girl with the Golden Tatoo', 'The Social Network', 'Zodiac', 'Panic Room', 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button', 'Fight Club', 'The Game' and 'Se7en', all movies that i enjoyed tremendously!

I just received a few reports about Gone Girl. I can't wait to see it.

As for the Wolf of Wall Street...to me that was the best movie of the past several years hat I had seen. I didn't want it to end. I think that Scorsese captured the magic of Good Fellows.
