Nobody in this thread after 3,461 posts has put up a single Beach Boys song so I am putting up 2, I Get Around and God Only Knows. Both are classics. The first one sort of incorporates all of the musical elements that made them popular, the second came out at their musical peak which was the Pet Sounds album:
Paul McCartney's comments:

“‘God Only Knows’ is one of the few songs that reduces me to tears every time I hear it,” he said. “It’s really just a love song, but it’s brilliantly done. It shows the genius of Brian.” “We’d put a song out then Brian would hear it then do one, which is nice,” he added. “It’s kind of like me and John, you’d try and top each other all the time. He eventually came out with ‘God Only Knows’ on Pet Sounds, I just think it’s a great song, it’s got the melody, harmonies, words, it’s just a great song and I love it.”

Well there was a song written about that sense of disgust, by our Canadian friends The Guess Who, very underrated tune from the 70s played on Sirius Channel 7 as a staple:
Don't forget "American Woman".

Was it about how Canadian women are so much better than American? Burton Cummings - "What was on my mind was that girls in the States seemed to get older quicker than our girls and that made them, well, dangerous. When I said 'American woman, stay away from me,' I really meant 'Canadian woman, I prefer you.' It was all a happy accident."[

Or was it an anti-war protest song? Bachman said they had a problem with the Vietnam War. "We had been touring the States. This was the late '60s, one time at the US/Canada border in North Dakota they tried to draft us and send us to Vietnam. We were back in Canada, playing in the safety of Canada where the dance is full of draft dodgers who've all left the States"

Or Jim Kale the bassist thought: "The fact was, we came from a very strait-laced, conservative, laid-back country, and all of a sudden, there we were in Chicago, Detroit, New York – all these horrendously large places with their big city problems. After that one particularly grinding tour, it was just a real treat to go home and see the girls we had grown up with. Also, the war was going on, and that was terribly unpopular. We didn't have a draft system in Canada, and we were grateful for that. A lot of people called it anti-American, but it wasn't really. We weren't anti-anything. John Lennon once said that the meanings of all songs come after they are recorded. Someone else has to interpret them. "

Another overlooked band for RnR HOF . Looking forward to seeing Bachman and Cummings next July in Montreal.

My top 5 Guess Who Songs:

1. These Eyes
2. No Time
3. Undun
4. Hand Me Down World
5. American Woman
]
Yes I agree with EB's list. I forgot about Undun. It's a little different from their usual rock sound and sounds kind of jazzy. Randy Bachman penned it.

The Moody Blues, Tuesday afternoon

It's Tuesday Afternoon now in 2020til, still sounds so good.

My memory of the Moody Blues:

I saw the Moody Blues years ago at the old Oakdale Theater in Wallingford Ct. The Oakdale was a run down, open air venue with a revolving stage that had seen better days. Justin Hayward was in the middle of a song when he suddenly stopped singing and called out to his bandmates "Stop!". He then said - "A bug just flew in my ear". Scattered laughter in the theater. Next with a deadpan expression - "It's quite painful." Louder laughter as the audience must of thought this was a kind of English Monty Python routine. And then he called out - "Is there a doctor in the house?" Uproarious laughter throughout the venue. But then he walked off the stage. His perplexed mates soon followed. We the audience - "Oh wow, he was serious?" An announcement was made over the speaker- "The band is taking a short break." Needless to say he did return and the concert was excellent.

But now whenever I hear a Moody Blues song on Sirius, I think of that night.

You should be aware that the Oakdale Theater has been totally redone since then, and is now a highly competitive venue, although it is temporarily closed now due to Covid:

Wow I read about this place. The Who, Cream and many top bands played there in the 60s. Were the acoustics good?

young kids from Montreal. Found this on a prog music site.

Too bad CHOM doesn't play this type of music unless they pay to be played..... After people say we don't find good new music anymore. It's out there but they are starving since nobody knows and buy it.
