El Michels Affair - Sounding Out the City

I picked up El Michels Affair's Sounding Out the City back in 2005 when it came out and it has not left my 'currently listening to' pile since! It's instrumental soul/funk with a cinematographic quality to it. It could be the soundtrack to a drive through Brooklyn or a lazy summer Sunday spent lounging...

You can listen to some samples and pick it up directly from the label: Truth & Soul Records. Pay less and support and independent at the same time!

I can vouch for all other LPs and singles that Truth & Soul Records has released, but Sounding Out The City particularly stands out.

I was in Chez Paree last trip and getting dances when my favourite song of all time came on, Metallica's, "One". Of course they cut off the solo at the end. Can't have the girls dancing to a 7 minute song, right.

Another of my favourites would be "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine. I did see a girl strip to this a few years ago. "Milk of Human Kindness" by Clutch is a kick ass tune. Any early stuff by Helmet gets me pumped. Yes, I like 80's and 90's punk/metal, no hair band stuff for me. Hendrix, Zeppelin, Cream, and some classic rock. I like newer stuff too, but just don't download or buy stuff anymore. Last discs I bought were White Stripes and System of a Down, a couple years ago. I do listen to more mellow stuff as well, REM, older U2, Radiohead, Coldplay.

I definitely would love to bang Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rhianna and Alicia Keys. Love the milk chocolate, just not the music.

I didn't go since I can't be bothered to go see/hear anything at the Bell Centre anymore. It just plain sucks as a venue! Though I would make an exception if Led Zeppelin were to drop by...

Led Zeppelin now to see that would be like the second coming of Jesus Christ,I have actually been to one show with my older son which I was in the mosh pit with it was nuts!!!

Thanks La Femme. I was in a bar and "Sunshine of your Love" by Cream came on and I asked if my lady friend heard it before, she said no. I asked if she heard of Eric Clapton, she said no. That's ok, I felt a little old, but I'll take two 19 year olds over one 38 year old any day. Some of my CD's were purchased before she was born. Kind of scary.

Depends of the situation

In a Bar with Friends i hope the music will be groove and of good quality,
otherwise my friends want to leave.

For my massage it has to be piano based for the relaxation of the client, but no too relaxing as not to put clients to sleep.

For my work out from Jimy Hendrix To Jay Z it is all good, as long as it moves!

I study music therefore professors makes us listen to a variation of great stuff to enhance our repertoire and gives us classics and contemporary
influneces.

I listen to lots of music and i am willing to discover more, because it
is my dream profession to work with music professionaly.

John Stewart passed on Saturday at 68, two days after suffering a massive stroke. He was one of my very favorite singers and writers. While he's best known for writing the Monkees' hit, Daydream Believer, and his 1979 hit, Gold, his work was much, much more than that.

Stewart was a member of the Kingston Trio from 1961-1967 and recorded 11 albums with them. His solo career followed and her recorded over 40 albums between 1967 and 2007. His final work will be released soon.

I started listening to Miles Davis recently and can't seem to stop. As long as I'm in a good mood.

System of a Down is my favorite when I'm pissed or wound up. Often for the last 2.5 years.
Trivium is not bad either.

It depends of what period your talking about. I like the Miles from Birth of the Cool up to Bitches Brew. I especially like the quintet he led during the mid sixties: Miles on trumpet, Wayne shorter on tenor sax, Ron Carter on Bass, Herbie Hancock on piano and the late Tony Williams on drums.

Miles was the first jazz concert I saw. It was in 1972 (or 1973?) at the Place des Arts. He played numbers from the "On the Corner" album.

To tell you the truth, I don't know the period or periods that I'm listening to. I have a subscription on RDIO and found a collection of 110 tracks. Best of type of thing. Been listening to that but there are many more albums. I'll try to find and compare the ones you mentioned.

Among my favorites are Bud Powell (who unfortunately was mentally disturbed) and Keith Jarrett, two major piano players.

Slam Stewart and Major Holley, two double bass players, were well-known for their singing in unison with their bass.
