In accordance with the classical Greek tradition which, by and large, is the origin of Western civilization, I am a staunch proponent of freedom of expression, including, of course, scholarly expression of ideas and academic freedom. So if you read my entire post instead of just the one sentence you quoted, you will get the drift. Louis

Dear Dr Louis

I’m sorry to see you go. I enjoyed our exchanges even though I didn’t always agree with you or fully understand the drift of your comments.

As for limiting myself to that one sentence, it was quite deliberate. For me, a large part of the stimulation I got from the discussion derived from the fact that it was taking place on an escort review board. Usually when I have this kind of conversation, it occurs in a somewhat stodgy and always politically correct environment with little or no connection to the “real” world. Here, however, we are never that far away from the subject matter of the discussion, and that puts an interesting edge on things, especially since all the participants are players, not just observers (whence the “comparison” with my depiction of the Athenian symposium).

My Dear Scholarly Friend:

Unfortunately, I am not completely gone or transcent the hobbyist realm yet. I am just practicing the 5 minute quickie type of hedonism for as long as I see fit. Back to your point, I think disagreement, like freedom, is healthy and expected in a democratic environment. As far as the subject of understanding goes, sometimes it is difficult to fully understand even the simplest of things. Perhaps it is the limitation of language, lack of time for careful deliberation, mysticism of the subject matter, or what not? Furthermore, I have been called Louis the inscrutable time and again. So there is nothing new here. Or perhaps there is something about life that cannot be said. We just have to experience it.

Yes I imagine it will be very interesting to teach courses such as ‘Philosophy of Love and Sex’ in an escort review board setting as compared with a college type environment. There may even be live demonstration of different conceptions of sex and love making, staring numerous willing hobbyists and perhaps SPs….Interesting thought indeed. :D :p ;)

Take care.
