So these people never played hockey before coaching in the NHL? Not even in minor hockey?

I think what should be considered is whether they have played in the NHL or not. Who cares whether they played hockey in high school or college? It's hardly the same thing when you come down to it.

Ah, Scorpio didn't mention anything about NHL experience. He mentionned only hockey-playing experience. Big difference. He should have been more specific.

Bring a Swede like peter forsberg s father or something .This
will ease media pressure ,and the anglo -franco tension. After
going thrue Vigneault Therrien Julien i cant believe we are still having this discussion, especially when Carbo sits at the bottom of this list

Maybe Peter Stasny , he s already a member of the Euro. Union what better than a politician to run the canadien
if you like a more authoritarian aproach may i suggest V.Tikhonov

Oh i got a good idea Trade Saku for Mario "Bleuet" Tremblay , family reunions are the best

Seriously, i think Bob wants the Lever the way he brought
him from hamilton (sneaky b***)But now that Boivin said
that the new head coach must be a francophone...just another headache to add to the free agency and draft .i tell you what ;the only way Gainey is gonna see some greens this summer ,is if we get knocked out in 5 games
against Boston in the first round of the playoffs!

Wrong! Boivin never said that the coach had to be a francophone, just that he had to speak French. Big difference. Lever can take a couple of French classes during the off season and easily qualify for the position.

Considering that Montreal is primarily a French city and so are the majority of the team's fans as well as any media that really matters in the city, I think that it's a fair requirement.

Do you think the Yankees would hire a manager that couldn't speak English?

Lever is a career assistant coach & not charismatic enough (actually, he has zero charisma) to be the next coach of the Habs. He won't be the next Habs coach. Period.

Only on an escort review board can you have a discussion about a head coach and end up with pictures of nude ladies in the same thread. You have to love it:)

I do my best to lighten things up when they get too serious! :D

Sorry i couldnt find one term meaning person who speaks french, according to Merriam-Webster : of, having, or belonging to a population using French as its first or sometimes second language, you are right

While i let you have fun with semantics,id rather stick to the facts here s a list of the last 10 Habs Coaches:
Jacques Lemaire
Jean Perron
pat burns
Jacques Demers
Mario Tremblay
Alain Vigneault
Michel Therrien
Claude Julien
bob gainey
Guy Carbonneau

i rest my case!

Since when is charisma a requirement for being a coach? Gainey isn't exactly the most charismatic individual and he was a decent coach

Well neither is speaking French!

Bergie!!

If Celine Dion buys the team, the next coach will be one of her husband's best friends, Michel Bergeron.

Can Mike Keenan speak French?

I'm gonna get some heat for this but why does the coach have to be bilingual right off the bat? Isn't Montreal an international city? I visited Montreal last fall and everyone I talked to spoke, at the very least, serviceable english and had no problems understanding me. If you were to only choose from bilingual coaches, you are leaving a VERY short list. It should be the best coach for the job, PERIOD. If they can't speak french, they'll learn. if they can't speak with the french media right away, get an interpretor. In fact, it would probably better serve the next coach to know how to speak russian over french as there are several in that dressing room. I don't think anyone in Montreal woulgd give two shits if the coach can or can't speak french if they help guide the Habs to the Cup.

The Habs are more than just the montreal team, they are the whole quebec team since the Nordiques moved... So if its true that Montreal is 50% french and 50% other language, its not true for the rest of the province. Most people watch it in french at RDS and want to have french coach conference.

As for the russian and such, actually thats another problem, a lot of people like me think it would be time to get rid of these lazy european that work for money and couldn't care less about the glory of the uniform or what people here think. Im not saying they are all like that, but too much of them are, and lets not forget that its not Russians, Checks, finlandais and such that brought glory to the team but our own Québécois. Its not with plumber like Begin or goons like Laraque that im talking about, altought these guys can show a lot of heart they simply dosen't have the talent required, so we need some big french quebec stars, would would be passionate about the team.

My grand father is part of the time of Richard, Beliveau and the others, and today he dosen't suport the habs anymore, actually he just don't like them and watch the matchs only to see them get beat. He calls them the Montreal Russians instead of Canadiens (a way of saying its more of an euro team than north american)

After this mediocre season comparing to the expectations, i am not sure what to think and if i should remain an Habs fan... A big clean up need to be made....
