Why do people take Merb so seriously?

I am starting a thread on Merb and how seriously some members take it. Part of this is reflected in reviews, responses, accusations, exposees, etc. I have had enough.

I am spending less time on Merb and I am going to distance myself from people on this board, not because I do not like them, but because I am spending way too much time discussing Merb and the hobby and to be honest, I find it frustrating reading and listening to some very opinionated posters. Moreover, these relationships are artificial. Yeah it's nice to chat about the hobby once in a while but do I really care what others think? No, I care about how I feel and right now - and I've had enough.

I will only see SPs that I pay for on occasion and will continue to review the ones that I enjoyed my time with.

One last thing: people can write whatever they want and it's all meaningless. No matter how experienced or credible you think you are, nobody really cares so why do people take Merb so seriously? Has the pendulum swung too far into absurdity?

I've recently beein seeing articles coming out where studies show that most heavy internet uses are loners. No kidding!! I don't think it's much different here, to be honest. We're a bunch of loners, obsessed with little things such as an internet website dedicated to the sex industry in Montreal, with a lot of time on our hands. I'd even say that many of us lead very boring lives & have reached a point in our lives where it's getting harder & harder to get laid like normal people do. Am i exaggerating here? Anyways, i've found these links:

Merb

I do realize I have too much time on my hands. I enjoy the hobby and thus appreciate the selective gems I have seen on this Board (as well as in TERB, MERC, and MM).

The key to me is to be selective in reading threads of interest, to post selectively, to avoid flame wars, not to be onion-skinned, and to live and let live.

Above all else, I strive to be balanced in living online and day to day. Relationships online are artificial, but I have met in person a few select posters which I would never have met otherwise. And they are great people!

This board should be a review board

GG,

one of the problems of the members of review board is that they seem to forget that this is a review board for SPs. I have been a member of this board since 2002 but have only around 73 posts. When I see an SP, I report back, good or bad. Since I do not see many escorts in a year, I do not write often here.

However, I am an avid reader and I am here 2-3 times a week to catch up on the SP scene.

Unfortunately, people may have too much time on their hands and, message boards and chat rooms are excellent places to meet and discuss with people. This leads to discussions and exchange of information and opinions. When we talk about opinions, well, everybody has their own, and leads to more discussions then sometimes to down right flame wars.

I would NOT want to be a Mod on a board like this. Where do you draw the line? I believe that users of this board should remember that Merb is an escort review board.

Taking Things Seriously

Soon after I started using the internet (1996) I realized that information had to be filtered and that very little was to be taken seriously - most of it was there to be enjoyed.

Previously, the nature of what I do required a lot of travel in North America -
certain years upwards of 75,000 km of interstate and a few trips to Europe. While it was enjoyable, meeting a lot of people, seeing many countries, after awhile it just blended together and became tedious. Now using the internet judiciously, most of the time spent on travelling is devoted to other things.More efficient, actually meet more people, learn more,do more.

How does this pertain to Merb? Usually when I am on Merb I am multi-tasking a skill that is not feasible when travelling. From the information posted on Merb,I save alot of time not having to travel across town to see something banal.I have met some interesting people who have added to experiences, knowledge, shared opinions, altered or re-inforced positions. The opposite is also true.At times certain posts make me question whether I live in the same
city that the posters are referring to.

As to the original focus of this thread basically any board is like an education, nothing is ever given to you or guaranteed. You have to judiciously search for the kernals that are relevent to you.Once you are admitted to a university you control your own destiny in terms of time devoted to your interests. Certain posters may be less demanding from this regard or more efficient in there posts or use of their time. Basically it comes down to a question of what is accomplished and not the amount of time and effort spent producing the result.

This is an issue that I find very hilarious and sad at the same time.Assuming for the sake of this post/thread that in life it is better to imitate successful
entities rather than failures let us look at Playboy. Founded in 1954 (if my memory is good) Playboy has survived the test of time. One of the reasons why is that Hugh Hefner figured out that the key to success was to be all inclusive. That all segments of the male population had certain basics interests - sports, politics, cars, music,an on going and evolving list and of course WOMEN. Knowing that a "Nudie" mag would have a very limited draw he made Playboy a very broad(pun intended) based publication with the results you see today.

Same principal applies to the boards. For the boards to be successful you have to appeal to varied interests that have a certain commonality. Furthermore once you have an inkling of a posters various interests it creates a different perspective of posted opinions.

All in all a very interesting mix.

eastender,

you are right indeed. What people do with this board is a matter of opinion and you have rightfully expressed yours.

I am just saying that if people take this board as simply a review board, well, there should not be many heated debates. Currently, users of this board gives the appearence that this board is habited by merbites that are being very serious. This is because people are using this board as a mode of communication between themselves rather than just reporting back cold hard facts.

Whether it is a good thing to have more discussions rather than just limiting to reviews of SPs.... this is an entirely other topic.

My 2 cents.

Damn! Now that you said that, we just lost a few potential recruits. :)
Truthfully, it is not a pleasant job sometimes. And you always have members who give a hard time but it's nature of all challenges.
Enjoy your time on MERB.:D

Mey Mod6, I'm sure that you must have several candidates out there that would like the action. I'm just not one of them.

Have a great day,

GG, its only 3pm and you've already posted 3 times today...that's not as much as your 'average' of 7.25...but the day is still young.

Keep the postings to 1 per day and i'll believe your trying to ween yourself from the boards. Keep posting and i know its just another run towards GG's retirement and return.

Can't agree with you there.
I have absolutely no problem finding normal (as in not in the sex industry) women to have sex with. Unfortunatly this can, and often does, lead to emotional complications. Complications I, and most of the women I meet, would just as soon keep from our partners.
The sex industry provides a relatively safe place to satisfy my diverse interests. A paid partner is rarely as satisfying as someone who chooses to be with me, but she's a whole lot less trouble.

Hmmm, How ironic a question from a person who has more than 1,500 posts since only Dec 2005? Some of the posts even exceeded 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 words.
Nice once ;)

May be some people are just too obsessed with the need of having the "last word".

And maybe it's the only way in their life to get the 'last word'... (I'm not referring to anybody here). Some people are simply addict...

GG,

Be real now will ya. You've been teasing us about this for 4 months now and yet you still come back time and time again.

If you didn't care about what people think or say why would you incessantly bombard people via PM in regards to certain subjects & threads?

I'm not looking to start a war here but through my observations you should take a good look in the mirror in regards to the topic of this thread. "Hello Kettle...this is Pot, you're black!"

Very true. That is why books on the subject of how to meet/pick-up men/women are almost always good sellers. This is not a new phenonema either, go back 50 years and we have the now classic "How to Win Friends and Influence People" which is still in print!

BTW, ask the mod if you don't know who I am. I have been here since 2003, but I feel the need to get a new handle thanks to the power of Google. :(

GG has a point. MERB is a lot more serious than TERB. I came from there, and it's a little more fast and loose over there. I have no idea why the two boards are so different, but I attribute that to the personality of the different mods.

Having time on your hands is not a bad thing, unless you're masterbating all the time. :) I have had streches of my life during which finding the time to eat or shop for grocery was difficult. I had absolutely NO TIME, and that didn't add toward my social life at all. BTW, I'm young enough to be still in the regular dating game, and trust me, the game can be just as boring there as Doc Holiday believes it is here. You spend a lot of money and time chasing down dead ends and time wasters. I also have friends who have been married for some ten years, and most of them, when they are not BSing me, tell me that the sex is both infrequent and boring, so I guess having sex like regular folks isn't that great either.

I think the fairest comparison between this hobby is not dating or marriage but rather one night stands. I would pick this over hunting for one night stands any day because here at least you have some idea of what the girls are like and how they perform, and the money outlay per lay is approximately the same.

My reply...

No matter what you guys think, I can guarantee you I am spending less time on Merb and more importantly, less time thinking of the hobby and who my next lay will be.

I started this thread to get opinions because I find that the board has degenerated somewhat into bogus tirades and cockfights. There are hardly any reviews and I am not sure why but I suspect that some people are intimidated to post something...anything.

Now Maxima, I know you do not like my posts on the Hezbollah thread so I'll ignore your comments. Special K, breadman, while I still post, I do not spend more than a total of one hour a day on Merb so I am not scared of a major relapse!

n00b, Merb is smaller than Terb and it is dominated by very few posters. This is unfortunate because we do not have enough variety of views - and I am not counting Tony's multiple personalities.

I have adopted a WHO GAFF attitude (who gives a flying f_ck) and I hope we get more reviews from different posters.

YYYYYaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnnn GG,
And some may be intimidated into changing or deleting their posts(save page is a great internet feature).

Ignoring posts per paragraph two above re Maxima does not balance well against paragraph 3 & 4 that we do not have enough variety of views/reviews on Merb. Obviously you seem to want a rather white bread type of board where views or reviews different from yours will be ignored.

Morning eastender,

Well I can't say that was much of a review. I prefer to have a lot more details than that (like who you saw, how she acted, how beautiful was she, what are her rates, and of course, how was her service).

I am not in the mood for multiple exchanges with you. I just do not feel like replying to your typical snide remarks. Feel free to contribute constructively but do not waste your time posting bullshit.

GG

P.S. Addiction to Merb isn't the number of posts you put up but the amount of time you spend here on a daily basis. I used to spend countless hours here. I am convinced that many still do and a lot of these guys are invisible so we do not know exactly how many hours a day they're logged in.
