Winter is by far my favorite time to be in Montreal, partly for that "arctic look." Hotel rates are much lower (and sometimes there are good "specials" out here) and things in general feel less crowded and frantic.

You know there is that...If you think that Montreal is beautiful head up to Quebec City. As much as I do not like the bone chilling cold it sure is beautiful. Walk down to lower town and look up at the hotel De Frontenac at night. https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7174/6595055857_3ac8a129fd_b.jpg
Then chose a pub and have a pint. It is like a walk back in time.

It is all really beautiful until you step over a snow bank to cross the street and then step in 6 inches of slush in a pair of dress shoes.

It's still incredible to me that I haven't made it up there. I've heard so much about its beauty. (I don't wear dress shoes; I'm not sure I still own any.) I know that the fancy hotel there--the big famous one, whose name I'm forgetting--sometimes has good deals during the winter. It's prohibitively expensive in the summer. Maybe I'll try to get a night in Quebec City and then a come back through Montreal. Montreal has its own attractions. :)

Do yourself a favor and head up there. The Frontenac is very expensive and I have not stayed there. I always have stayed at the Courtyard that is right behind the ice skating rink. The hotel it is right outside the gate and there are some great restaurants around the rink. It is really beautiful.

Here is the ice rink in winter: http://static.quebecregion.com/medi..._yvestessier_cor_ok.jpg?preset=format-720-540

Right on! I saw "ice rink in winter" and I imagined a county oval for the locals to pass the puck around. Wow. I need to get up there..... Thanks for the encouragement!

In town on Sunday. Originally arriving at 10PM but due to winter storm, moved it up arrive 1PM. Never been in Montreal during snow storm so don't know how well Montreal keep their roads clear other than sidewalks are not kept very clean even days after the storm has passed.

Should I just rent a SUV or rely on Uber?

You are correct. There are some great deals if you are only staying a day or two. For me, I've always tried to travel to Montreal and stay until at least Wednesday morning which often times triples the price if flying. If I'm coming to Montreal I need more than just a quick weekend to quench my thirst. Getting to the airport, getting a hotel, renting a car, etc. is way to much effort for a two ish day stay. I had the SUV upgraded with some winter necessities and I'm very happy and comfortable making the 6 hour drive.

Well, I had to cancel my trip to Montreal this week. A storm at the beginning of the week screwed up the business meeting I had back East. Since I missed my meeting I couldn't justify the trip to Montreal. I was to return to the Midwest today and guess what? There is another storm coming and the airlines have already cancelled or delayed over 1000 flights today and the storm is just starting.

I had all my warm weather gear packed, a meeting with a girl that someday I will consider my ATF and I also had my ATF Agency owner standing by ready to help, a flu shot, teeth whited, pubes trimmed, 13 Lbs lost, excuses made, lies told, funds appropriated......and AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Winter travel sucks.

I have put my trip off a month. Can I hope for better weather in Montreal in March? At least the risk of frost bite has to be reduced a little? Until then, I will stay the course and spend my time looking at photos of beautiful young girls of Montreal....I will soon be reviewing many of you. I am going to review the hell out of you too!:eyebrows: Oorah!!

The Midwest is getting hit by a storm. They said the two Chicago airports had cancelled 1000 flights each. I didn't know there were that many flights in a day there. A few days ago when I was rescheduling my flight it was the east coast and Pennsylvania that was having the storm and it took over two hours to get a call back from the airline.

Yeah, O’Hare airport serves as a hub for both American and United Airlines. You’re going to have flights leaving literally every minute.
