Thought it might be helpful for other hobbyists to keep a running list of which hotels have free internet in the rooms and/or free wireless in the lobby for those who travel to Montreal also on business. Here's what I can contribute to the best of my recollection:

Hyatt: No wireless, paid connection in rooms
Marriott Chateau Champlain: Free wireless in lobby, paid connection in rooms (although wireless signal is strong enough to connect to on lower level hotel floors)
Loews Hotel Vogue: Free wireless in lobby, paid connection in rooms (wireless signal is not strong enough to connect to on even second level of hotel)

Now let's add to this list! :D

Hotel Omni has free wireless Internet

Hilton Bonaveture has cable/$9.95 per night but free wireless Internet in the lobby. This is due to the building and walls being thick concrete so what is available in the lobby is not available in the rooms

Hotel Intercontinental $14.95 per night wireless

Where I belong.
Grand Plaza, formerly Crown Plaza then Doubletree. Free wireless as well as plenty of free parking on side streets.

Quality Inn on Parc. Free wireless.

Generally speaking, the more expensive the room, the less likely you are to get free wifi.

Of the three hotels I've stayed at in the Montreal area two offered free internet.

On my first trip I stayed at the Econo Lodge downtown and they offered free internet. My room also was huge and had a hot tub in it. During my first trip I also stayed at the Holiday Inn in Longueuil. Also free internet.

The rest of my trips to Montreal I've stayed at the InterContinental which charges for internet. However, because I'm a platinum priority club member they took the charge off my bill both times. I agree that the more expensive the hotel the less likely they'll offer free internet.

IIRC, the Quality Inn on Parc, IIRC, didn't have wireless, but ethernet. But it's free.

I agree that the more expensive the room, you probably won't get free wifi.:confused:

I guess they figure if you can afford the room, you can afford to get nickeled and dimed.

Montreal, of course
Motel Chablis Cadillac (near Cadillac Metro)... Dunno about the one on St-Jacques though

I was told the Chablis/St-Jacques has it also for free. That is something that would be extremely helpful, should you become "stranded"...

Here are my lists:

These are all downtown hotels. I don't have guts look at pictures of hookers in hotel lobby, so my list is limited to in-room services:

Saint Sulpice & Holiday Inn Express: have both wired and wireless at both locations. All free. Free Ethernet cable available with deposit.

Holiday Inn Midtown, The Omni, Days Inn Montreal Downtown(not to be confused with Days Hotel): free wireless

Hotel de la Montagne : free wireless... but many rooms have no signal. I had to change the room twice, just to get adequate signal level.

Days Hotel, Hyatt, Le Cantlie Suites, Delta hotels: have to pay about $15/day for wireless.

When I was in Montreal in June I stayed at Le 1 Rene Levesque (corner of Rene Levesque and St. Laurent) and they had free wired internet in Rooms. You had to bring your own ethernet cable though, or you could borrow one at the desk for a refundable $10 deposit.

Walked by here a thousand times and noted that rooms were 60 or 69$... what are the rooms like? I always thought it was a dorm... it looks like you might have a problem having an escort come up.... I'm curious any info would be appreciated.

It's not a dorm, although it looks like a lot of college-age people live there. I think it's a long-stay hotel (-ie- where people stay for months at a time rather than days) and each room has a kitchenette. When I was in college in London, Ontario I stayed at a place not unlike it. Although the one I lived in in London was kind of a dump (but cheap). Le 1 Rene Levesque seems nice enough. The studio rooms are less than $70 a night, but I'd advise against them for hosting a SP, the beds are really small. I've noted that as when I come back to Montreal in February or March (depends on a contract job I have coming up) I'll pay the extra $20 a night and get a Queen bed sized room.

The decor is mostly industrial (but through design, not cheapness/laziness). As for hosting SP's, when I was there in June (I came to town for the TFC-Montreal Impact game and stayed a few days) I hosted twice. Once was from a Escort Service (Montreal Glamour or something like that -- BTW wasn't too pleased with the girl, but that's another story) and an Indy and neither mentioned any problems. There is a front desk with people there 24 hours a day, but since it's used as full-time housing for some people I don't think they pay too much attention to people coming-and-going. In fact looking at some of the ads on Craigslist I think a couple of SP's actually do their Incalls out of there. The indy girl I seen when I was there mentioned not even knowing it was a hotel and seemed rather interested that it was available for (at the time) $75 a nigh after taxes.

I liked the place well enough, but the TV reception was horrible. The location seemed great, especially since the convenience store had access from the hotel (although you need your room card to get back through without going outside) which was handy since it had a cash machine. I don't think I need to explain how handy that can be for a hobbyist. I didn't realize until I recently discovered this site that so many MP's were right there. I'll have to note that as I intend to stay at this hotel again when I'm in town next. As for security cameras, I know I didn't see any cameras and as a Network Admin that has installed them and integrated them into networks for remote viewing I usually notice them right away. Either the don't have many (or any) or they are exceptionally well hidden. Although since it's a long-term residence facility in addition to a hotel there could be privacy issues keeping them from being installed. I don't know the laws about such things to so for certain though. When I was there everybody standing outside Cafe Cleopatra looked like a cross-dresser, so I assumed at the time it was a tranny bar, reading reviews here I now know that my incorrect assumption was my loss. I'll definitely keep that in mind.
