Walked by here a thousand times and noted that rooms were 60 or 69$... what are the rooms like? I always thought it was a dorm... it looks like you might have a problem having an escort come up.... I'm curious any info would be appreciated.
It's not a dorm, although it looks like a lot of college-age people live there. I think it's a long-stay hotel (-ie- where people stay for months at a time rather than days) and each room has a kitchenette. When I was in college in London, Ontario I stayed at a place not unlike it. Although the one I lived in in London was kind of a dump (but cheap). Le 1 Rene Levesque seems nice enough. The studio rooms are less than $70 a night, but I'd advise against them for hosting a SP, the beds are really small. I've noted that as when I come back to Montreal in February or March (depends on a contract job I have coming up) I'll pay the extra $20 a night and get a Queen bed sized room.
The decor is mostly industrial (but through design, not cheapness/laziness). As for hosting SP's, when I was there in June (I came to town for the TFC-Montreal Impact game and stayed a few days) I hosted twice. Once was from a Escort Service (Montreal Glamour or something like that -- BTW wasn't too pleased with the girl, but that's another story) and an Indy and neither mentioned any problems. There is a front desk with people there 24 hours a day, but since it's used as full-time housing for some people I don't think they pay too much attention to people coming-and-going. In fact looking at some of the ads on Craigslist I think a couple of SP's actually do their Incalls out of there. The indy girl I seen when I was there mentioned not even knowing it was a hotel and seemed rather interested that it was available for (at the time) $75 a nigh after taxes.
I liked the place well enough, but the TV reception was horrible. The location seemed great, especially since the convenience store had access from the hotel (although you need your room card to get back through without going outside) which was handy since it had a cash machine. I don't think I need to explain how handy that can be for a hobbyist. I didn't realize until I recently discovered this site that so many MP's were right there. I'll have to note that as I intend to stay at this hotel again when I'm in town next. As for security cameras, I know I didn't see any cameras and as a Network Admin that has installed them and integrated them into networks for remote viewing I usually notice them right away. Either the don't have many (or any) or they are exceptionally well hidden. Although since it's a long-term residence facility in addition to a hotel there could be privacy issues keeping them from being installed. I don't know the laws about such things to so for certain though. When I was there everybody standing outside Cafe Cleopatra looked like a cross-dresser, so I assumed at the time it was a tranny bar, reading reviews here I now know that my incorrect assumption was my loss. I'll definitely keep that in mind.
