It is unacceptable to be asking for tips at the SAQ.

Tipping culture, and expectations are out of hand. What used to be a choice to tip for good service, has become a necessity added tax basically to pay. In cases with waiter/waitresses, if you don't tip them more than 10%, you have only made them pay more taxes for the privledge of serving you now. If they aren't tipped, the government still takes money from them for money they didn't even make. Every table and bill in a restraint needs to be account for so the government can take their share out of the expected amount the waiter/waitresses makes, including their projected tip amount.

What a wonderful idea... let's make this an excuse for the government to demand extra money from even jobs that shouldn't have tips. What's next? The corner store. You now must give a percentage of tip on top of the price you buy milk too? It's a cashier doing the job they are paid to do being a cashier. The tip jar is out of line.

I went back today to have look, because I was in the mall anyway and I was curious. The can had been replaced by a metal BAQ bucket, but, the can from yesterday was still there and had been turned around to hide the "tips" paper and the can itself was semi hidden under the cables for the cash, behind the little board.

It'll be interesting to see if it comes out again after the campaign is done. I tend to think it was an enterprising employee, and my guess is the young girl who works there as I noticed a heart on the "tips" message today that I hadn't noticed yesterday. If it comes back out I'll take a picture, or if anyone from SAQ responds to me *snort, guffaw* then I'll let you know.

My point of government is, if like waitressing tipping these other fields of labor, then owners make it a point to include tipping in their wage as an excuse to under pay employees blaming the tip jar.
once it becomes common practice, it becomes something else that a donation to someone's betterment, becomes a cost they have to pay back out on, even if they don't get that gift any more.

I say government, because it all goes down to taxing people to make sure no one gets a chance to get ahead in life. Especially when it becomes targeting the lowest earners, in something they have no control over.

The tipping issue is affecting all aspects of various businesses. The SAQ is not unique. Post-covid everyone is getting so greedy. Everyone wants more money but the quality has gone down.
