Someone is on their cell phone without any regards for the rest of us trying to have a relaxing dinner together!

Total disregard for the rest of us enjoying a night out on the town!
Has it happened to you?

Actually yes,
What a shame
Rude people in the restaurant really don't have consideration for us.

But did you know that in Japan it is not legal to make noise or talk in a train or subway...
Not even phone calls just like in a library
You can get fined to do so

Why would you care about someone on their phone at another table?? Why would that affect you? Whether they’re speaking on the phone or speaking to the person across from them, what’s the difference? I don’t get it.

Order a nice steak and desert to go and charge it to their table

To the OP I guess we are all different... because like my new hero Bernie I would most probably be oblivious and untroubled to the noice and whatever would be going on all around me ... after all loud conversations/music and noise when one goes to a restaurant or a bar is to be expected and part of the lively energy and experience .... on the other hand I would be somewhat annoyed if my companion or someone on my table kept talking on their phone... most would agree that’s more rude and bothersome .... learning to properly decline a phone call is good manners when your with company so that when the bill finally arrives we won’t be tempted to tell them that we somehow misplaced our wallet ...

Who on earth would call instead of text these days, especially in a restaurant of all places? You can hear all the noise around you. It's actually more annoying for the person making the call more than anything.
I suppose this may have been a pet peeve...back in like 2002.;)

Look behind you.
I am one who would go over and first ask politely ask them to STFU. I was with my wife at the time at a restaurant in Drummondville and someone started clipping their fingernails, he never had a chance to start his third finger, another time we were in the Drummondville mall fast food area and some lady decided to change her babies diaper at the eating table, that did not go so well either for her.
Speak up or continue to have your meal ruined.

I would get back in my time machine and leave 1999 when people actually still answered their phone and head back to the wonderful year of 2021.

Most times people do not have the intelligence to know they do not have to shout at the phone.

I think Larry David explained it the best in this clip:

There are exemptions though...like when you gotta take a call from that elderly relative of yours who can’t text in case it’s an emergency ...

I agree, there are always exceptions. But one could also step away and take the call in an area as to not bother people around. Also, I've heard such discussions, and listening to someone talk about how their parent shat the floor while I'm on a date... big no.

Anyone ever see someone talking on the phone, only to hear the phone ring ? wtf is up with that?

It is one of my biggest pet peeves and it helps me miss restaurants a bit less, but ....
