A-Rod to Miami?

DETROIT -- What began as a casual, joking conversation between New York Yankees president Randy Levine and Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria about the possibility of Alex Rodriguez playing for the Marlins may develop into serious trade talks this offseason, according to a source with knowledge of the conversation.

According to the source, Levine and Loria discussed the possibility of A-Rod playing in Miami, his hometown, but characterized it as a joke between old friends.

The conversation between the Yankees and Marlins initially was reported by Keith Olbermann on his MLB.com "Nerd Blog." Variety also reported the news.

However, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he has had no trade talks regarding Rodriguez with anyone and described the first report as "false."

According to the source, Loria said in his conversation about A-Rod with Levine, "Alex is Mr. Miami, it would be great if he played here for us."

To which Levine is said to have replied, "You can have him."

A second source with knowledge of Rodriguez' thinking said the likely only place Rodriguez eventually would accept a trade to is Miami. Rodriguez has five years and $114 million remaining on his contract, not including milestone home run bonuses.

Levine, however, refused to comment on the conversation with Loria, and when asked if he would look to shop Rodriguez in the offseason, said, "That's something we would need to discuss."

Appearing Sunday on Ian O'Connor's show on ESPN New York 98.7 FM, Levine told O'Connor the following regarding A-Rod's future as a Yankee:

"That's like one of those questions: Where's the stock market going to be in 2017? Who's going to be president on Nov. 15?" he said. "If I had a crystal ball to predict all of that stuff, I'd be a lot smarter than I am. I'm not going to go there."

Rodriguez has been marginalized in the Yankees' lineup this postseason. He is 3 for 23, including 0 for 18 with 12 strikeouts against right-handers, and repeatedly has been benched and pinch hit for in the playoffs. Rodriguez was benched for the third time this postseason in Game 4 of the ALCS on Wednesday night.

"For all our fan base: Let's root for Alex, the contract is what it is, and he's there, and we hope he gets hot," Levine told O'Connor. "It's part of what we deal with all the time, just like any other contract."

It isn't unprecedented for Levine, along with ownership, to lead a deal. Two winters ago, the Yankees signed Rafael Soriano after Cashman had ruled out the possibility. Levine, with the backing of owner Hal Steinbrenner, brokered a deal for the right-hander.

The question that still needs to be answered is how much of the contract the Yankees would be willing to eat. The Marlins may want the Yankees to take reliever Heath Bell, who is owed $18 million over the next two years, plus has a team option for $9 million for 2015. He could have some use for the Yankees because Soriano may opt out of his contract after this season.

Bell could provide insurance for Mariano Rivera's return as the team's closer. If Rivera is fine, Bell could team with David Robertson to set up Rivera.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...on-new-york-yankees-miami-marlins-source-says

If the Yankees are willing to eat up at least half of the contract, i see this as a possibility....as long as they take back one of Miami's big contracts in return. However, doesn't Florida already have a third baseman?

Tonight's quickie quiz: Name the genius who traded Austin Jackson, Phil Coke and Ian Kennedy for Curtis "Rob Deer" Granderson?

You know what rumples, you have said a lot of S _ _ _ _ d S _ _ t over the years but this is one for the ages, if it wasn't for "Rob Deer's" production this year the Yankees would not have finished in first place and made the playoffs which is much better then finishing in dead last place, sorry to present you with FACTS.

Where I belong.
You know, Joe, I'd rather finish last this year and have bright future to look forward to than finish first, get blown out of the playoffs, and be saddled with nearly half a billion dollars in bad contracts that are going hamstring your team for years to come.

Hell, your team isn't even quite dead yet and you're already posing st.....d s..t about who they're going to buy for next year's failure.

Failure is failure is failure. As both George Steinbrenner and Derek Jeter aptly put it, when you're the New York Yankees and you spend like drunken sailors, anything short of a world series victory is a failure.

OUCH!

Yankees fans embarrassed themselves during the first two games of the AL Championship Series. They couldn't fill their stadium for either game, but those who came damn sure could boo their own team -- one of four left in baseball -- right off the field. Alex Rodriguez hit a line drive at the left fielder, and the crowd booed. Nick Swisher lost a ball in the lights. Boos. Curtis Granderson struck out. Boos.

Not all of them were booing, no. But lots of them. Most of them? Maybe. It's hard to be precise when a stadium sounds like Yankee Stadium sounded on Sunday night, angry noise coming from all over the ballpark. This column is not written to say all Yankees fans boo; therefore, all Yankees fans have no class.

You know it hurts most when your own fans see right through the team and what a fraud Yankee "PRIDE" is.

Could someone help poor John Sterling. I always thought he was the king of the most trite mindless tag lines in history, but when he failed to find a fit line for Ibanez the dead air could no longer hide the FACT he really has nothing else to say about baseball than a bad tag.

Tonight's quickie quiz: Name the genius who traded Austin Jackson, Phil Coke and Ian Kennedy for Curtis "Rob Deer" Granderson?

Better yet, name the five genius fans on this board who bought the deal hook, line, and s(t)inker. :D

Yup, i'd say that the Yankees are off to a fantastic 2013 season already...

Translation: Joe guarantees the Yankees will take the World Series, just like he did this year. :faint: :help:

Go Joe, ;)

Congrats to the red sox, they now have a closer for next season, step 1. CHECK! now all they need is a team to play in front of, with, and behind him.

BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox have claimed right-handed reliever Sandy Rosario off waivers and designated outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin for assignment.

Rosario was claimed from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. In four games for them this season, he gave up six runs in three innings. He has pitched in 10 major league games, all with Miami during the last three seasons.

Rosario made 25 relief appearances this year for Triple-A New Orleans with a 1.04 ERA. In 26 innings, he had 24 strikeouts and two walks.

Lin appeared in the majors for the first time this year. He hit .250, going 3 for 12 in nine games with the Red Sox. In 113 games at Triple-A Pawtucket, he batted .247 with two homers and 30 RBIs.

Hey Pinstripers,

The SHAME of the YANKEES!

A-Rod Leads The Great Pinstriped MELTDOWN of 2012.

Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher, Alex Rodriguez all benched at one time or another during the time they're most needed, with the playoffs on the line. Of course key players frequently have to sit out the playoffs from the bench. In 1975 it happened to Jim Rice of the Boston Red Sox during the playoffs and probably affected the outcome of the World Series. So what's the difference with the New York Yankees this year? The three critical players are all HEALTHY, Rice was injured like many others. Grandy, Swish, and A-Rod are there because they can't buy a hit...they SUCK! That's three players who got paid a combined total of $50 million in 2012 who are doing so bad at the plate, and sometimes in the field, that they're manager has had little opposition and much encouragement from the fans and/or ownership in benching them because they all deserve it. The Grandy Man and A-Bomb are so hopeless that in a do or die Game 4, down 0-3 to the Tigers in the ALCS, they remained benched because it gives the team a better chance to win. Talk about EMBARRASSING!!!

The kicker is that one player, Alex Career-Cheat Rodriguez, doesn't seem to care much if at all despite all the cash he's scammed from the team and the FACT of an early renegotiated contract he coerced out of the team in 2007. Well, maybe he cares just enough to draw his attention from fawning women he cares more about when team icon and real producer Derek Jeter got hurt. Did he really care, or was it just a brief distraction? Without the renegotiation the team could have dumped or traded a fading and useless player just at the right time. But the greedy and gutless Yankee ownership and GM Cashman caved like blind and thoughtless teenaged girls too scared not to put out or lose their alleged stud. Now they are paying for getting PLAYED HUGE!!!

The real embarrassment is...there would be more players on the bench who also have failed miserably, except that someone has to be out there. Cano has hit .086 with 3 hits in 36 at bats, and 5 starters overall have hit under .200. Girardi has to put some faith in veteran players as much as the odds say chances are slim they will perform up to par. But Rodriguez and Granderson haven't even earned that much, and at a time when the team must win or go home humiliated. It's pretty damning when Alex is benched in favor of another player who can't hit .100. That's right Mr. Sterling, the Grandy Man CAN'T, and A-Rod just BOMBS.

The Yankees are imploding almost completely in the batter's box, and with another five years left on A-Rod's contract he may have a great many days ahead when he could be paid up to $30 million a year to proposition female fans while benched. But he is just the most overpaid. The Yankees' hitting has been atrocious and it's not just A-Rod who is among HEALTHY players who has looked plain useless at the plate.

Happy landings BOYZ,

Merlot

Nice post merlot, maybe 4 years from now you will be able to enjoy seeing your team play on a nice sunny crisp october afternoon instead of talking about Arod not being back with the Yanks next season.... tell me tho, as a red sox fan, and seeing how Arod has begun to slow down, is that not a bad thing for red sox fans if Arod's big contract disappears soon? Ouch! :) I am sure if he is traded the Yanks will have to pay a huge amount of his salary but then again who knows at this point.

Futures? Already explained your teams, which is 2-4 years before the playoffs become reality... now the Yanks... was talking to a well known sports writer cpl nights ago and lets start with pitching shall we.

CC, Pettitte (likely will return) Kuroda (will for sure be re signed) Hughes (better than anything the red sox have and a perfect #3 guy in the #4 spot) Phelps (is ready to be a starter and has the stuff to eventually be a #3 possibly#2 guy) and Nova (lets hope with Mo back next year he can get some more on the job training from Mo that was a huge help to him yr 1) Wildcard, and it is a big one, Michael Pineda.

CC,Pettitte,Kuroda,Hughes,Phelps/Nova/Pineda Pretty dang impressive, again.

The bullpen only gets better with a healthy Mo Rivera and the Yanks still have a strong farm system. Dont forget the kid they got in the Pineda deal, Jose Campos, and a healthy Betances and Banuelos could rebound back into form just as quickly as they fell out, injuries can heal or could continue to plague them....nobody knows at this point but they all had and will be given the time to get better. Getting one back will be a bonus, getting 2 or 3 would be amazing.

The wild card is having a GM like Brain, i mean BRIAN Cashman.

Dont have a cystal ball so as of now it is anyones guess about Arod, Swisher, Ichiro... but a healthy Brett Gardner for a full season is HUGE and the hitting was not the problem this year, until they all hit a slump at the worst time of the year, the playoffs, something your team knows nothing about for 2 years now going on likely 4-6 overall. The Yanks will be fine my friend, no worries at all about that.....you only wish you could say the same about the red sox lol. Enjoy last place and a nice long offseason. Yanks took first, sox took last, it dont get any better than that! :thumb:

I agree with Iggy that the Yankee pitching staff looks good for the future. Good or very good, but not great. What i'm worried about if i'm a Yankee fan are the aging superstars like A-Rod, Jeter & Texeira. Not only are the aging, but injuries start taking their toll when you past the age of 30 (i know from experience). A-Rod & Texeira have had their best years, and will Jeter be the same player after his very serious ankle injury? If he'd be in his 20's, i wouldn't be worried about him. However, serious injuries (especially ones involving bones, tendons & ligaments) are harder to recuperate from when you're past the mid-30's. Maybe he'll come back as good as new, but how old is he? 38?

I also think the Yankees need to upgrade at the catching position. Having a catcher hitting below .220 is unacceptable in the Bronx.

In the outfield, there is a big unknown: who will play left field? Will it be Brett Gardiner? I expect Granderson to play center, but will he bounce back & greatly reduce is strikeout rate? He's starting to remind me of Dave Kingman. In right, will it be Swisher (i doubt it) or Ichiro? Or will it be someone obtained in a trade or on the free agent market?

Will the Yankees re-sign Raoul Ibanez? I think he'd be a very good DH, and could help in the outfield once in a while.

Will we see the same ol' Mariano Rivera? He'll also be coming back from a very serious injury & he's not exactly a young pup. If he can be an effective closer once again, good for the Yankees. But i would't be counting on him very much considering his age & the fact he won't have thrown for over a year.

As for the Red Sox, i have no idea what will happen next season. My guess is that it'll depend on who the new manager is & which players he wants on his team. I'm hoping that they manage to lure John Farrell away from Toronto. Will Big Pappi return? Will Jake Ellesbury play a full season? Will their heart n' soul Dustin Pedroia bounce back? Who'll play first base? Other than Bucholz, which other quality starter do they have? Will Andrew Bailey earn his pay as their closer? So many questions....

Lol..... you old gunslinger you hahahah... Best record in the AL then all went into a slump... so whats the Jays and red sox excuse then? No heart and soul and no talent either? Like we always said Doc, if only the Jays had good starting pitching, then they would be contenders, then again many teams wish they had good starters, look no further than beantown. "Peeeee Uuuuuuu"

Cant win em all, thats why you always cherish the ones your teams do win. Congrats to the tigers if they hang on and win, hungry101 must be a happy guy right now.

Yanks will retool like always and put one of the best teams in MLB on the field come april. As long as the Steinbrenners own the team and Brain Cashman is the GM, there are no worries, the Yanks will always be in the top 4 or 5 for a championship ever year, no other team can make such a claim, although I think the Dodgers are on their way. Hope so for Mattingly's sake, he was a great Yankee and a good man and always played like he manages, the right way.

Yet they will still be on top looking down on the team in the tiny park sitting in last place, once again, lol. At least you have the sellout record, so all is not so bad in beantown now is it?

Hey BOYZ,

Tigers SWEEP Yankees. :D

''I've got a great bunch,'' Ilitch said. ''We don't have one hot dog in the bunch. They're all great guys. ... The Tigers are something special.''

Robinson Cano goes .056 in the ALCS...and the stripers get two hits, just two stinking hits for the Yankees, and none form the vastly overpaid losers. Another Joe.t prediction special..."I guarantee the Yankees will win the World Series"... completed. :thumb:

And now an appropriate tribute from all Yankee fans for a fitting end to a pitiful performance.

NOTE: the Yankees got just 2 earned runs for the entire series. :faint:

GOODBYE!!! :amen:

Where were all the Red Sox fans?

Long time NO SEE!

Here they are gloating after the Yankees lost to the Tigers in 4 games.

How good were the Red Sox this season? Not very, but they did take last place in the AL East and won less than 70 games.

How good were the Yankees this season? Pretty good, considering they took first place in the very same AL East, and won 95 games.

The Yankees season was pretty amazing since their #1 acquisition through a trade Michael Pineda spent the year on the DL. So did Brett Garner for the most part. And the Yankees starting pitching staff is not very deep or consistent, and the Yanks won 95 games.

The Yankees played a very competitive short series against a spunky Baltimore Orioles team which is young and will be tough next year. The Tigers, who acquired Prince Fielder, who aided a multi-talented Miguel Cabrera in winning the Triple crown, have an awesome starting rotation in addition to their hitters. The Tigers barely made the playoffs, winning the pennant against the Chicago White Sox in the last few games of the season. And the Tigers won 88 games.

For this series, the Yankees hit a brick wall, while Tigers excelled. That's baseball.

Anyhow, getting back to my first statement, you Red Sox fans really having nothing to gloat about. Your team sucked last year. Next year is a rebuilding year.

Yes, the Yankees are getting older. There will be changes. Some younger players will be brought up. There will be some trades, and maybe some free agent signings for both the Yankees and Red Sox.

But for this year, the Yankees got a lot further than the Boston Red Sox.

Our Owners and GM preach that, but as a true Yanks fan and i would bet i am not alone, a successful season is another AL East title and (sorry K) seeing the red sox not make the playoffs. Anything else is a bonus. Thats my feeling on the subject and always has been.

Just remember DD, 2nd place is 1st loser!! ;) In their market anything less than a WS is and EPIC FAIL! Good day sir!
