Yeah, Yankees ticket prices are kind of high, but isn't a ticket to Fenway for a Red Sox game like $2 to $10 (luxury box seats), with 2 for 1 specials? Or sometimes free for homeless fans?

Wha
t for? to see Clay Buchholz drag his barrel of special cream to the mound and splat it on the ball and throw it to the plate?

ROFLMAO. I wonder just how much time went in to making this last post unquotable. Guess we know who has nothing better to do with himself.

In other news, I don't know if the Red Sox still have the most expensive seats in baseball, but they did a few years back.

In other news, Joe Girardi has just posted tonight's lineup. Get this. LYLE OVERBAY is batting cleanup. Lyle Overbay wouldn't have hit cleanup for the 1962 Mets. Here you go, folks:
Gardner
Cano
Wells
Overbay
Suzuki, chuckle chuckle, hee hee
Nix
Nelson
Phelps
Romine, yes, you read that right folks. Joe G thinks so much of his catching prospect that he's batting him behind the pitcher.

Who the hell is Webster???
Are you really unfamiliar with Webster, Merlot. He's considered one of the top 2-3 pitching prospects in all of baseball. This was his second start, the first having gone quite well. He's also been having a fabulous season at Pawtucket.

I didn't see tonight's game, but obviously he was a mess. He's got a 97 mph fastball, and great secondary stuff. Tonight, he clearly had no command whatsoever. Too bad he wasn't facing the light hitting Yankees. Probably would have given up two runs in six.

Merlot

Good question, Merlot. I looked up this Allen Webster in Baseball Prophelytics or Fanographic? Or whatever else your buddy uses as a source. I found his stats for tonight. It doesn't look like the stats of a top prospect. 1.2 innings pitched and 8 ER's. But whatever you say rumps. You coached Little League and know talent, etc.

Good question, Merlot. I am impressed.

Girardi batted Phelps 8th so he could pinch hit Hafner and Boesch and not have a string of 3 lefties in a row. All the strategy did was put the Yankees in position to win the game going to the bottom of the 9th. And the strategy directly won the game for the Yankees in the 9th.

The reason Girardi is on the field and your up here is he because he thinks outside the box. Tonight it was a gutty, bench emptying win capped by Rivera's 12th save in 12 ops.

So how are those Red Sox doing since Clay Buchholz got caught red, ah, white handed?

Not too good.

Red Sox have won 2 games and lost 5 since Clay was spotted dipping into the white stuff.

On top of that, Red Sox pitchers have given up 41 runs in the last 6 games for almost 7 runs a game.

So the question begs, have the Red Sox pitchers been ordering this white glob in bulk? If so, I bet you they have stashed in the Fenway basement ready for quick disposal. Bet you they are going to plan B. Buy the clear stuff. Doesn't reality suck? rumps and merlot.

Bitch-slap heard round the world, nuff CED!

I think you may have drunk too much of the Chateau Chaussette Rouge tonight because Webster was not among the consensus top 15 pitching prospects coming into this season. I believe he was ranked somewhere from 16-20.

I take the liberty of quoting from my post from the Prospects Thread here.

Actually, what really won the game was a dropped throw by the shortstop on a busted hit-and-run where Wells was thrown out by 10 feet. The Yankees have now won games on a dropped fly ball, a thrown away ball on a sac bunt, and now this.

When your pitching is good and keeps you in games, you will always win games like this. I would also note that Vernon Wells fielded chances at 3B cleanly so the Colorado SS (who is an actual SS) should have made the play. He didn't. It will always happen that teams in close games due to solid pitching efforts will win or lose based on execution of fundamental plays at critical points of the game either being made or not made.

What really won the game was Girardi batting Phelps 8th enabling the crucial Boesch pinch hit with a staggered lineup. It probably bothers you that Girardi has the guts, the testicles and cayunes to empty his bench, play Vernon Wells at 3rd base and then get a defensive sparkler, but that is why Joe G is who he is and why you have to contrive reasons for pessimism for the Yankees. Your thinking is not obeyed by the Yankees, and that is why they are on the cusp of 1st place with half their team on the DL.

Red Sox DH David Ortiz denies PED use

David Ortiz is once again defending his reputation.

With the Boston Red Sox’s designated hitter off to a hot start, whispers are mounting again that Ortiz is using performance-enhancing drugs.

Ortiz denied the allegations.

“They test me all the time,” he told the Boston Globe in a lengthy interview. “They make you pee and they test your blood, too. This year I would say I’ve probably been tested five times, peeing. Blood, just once. That was in spring training. They don’t warn you. They just show up.”

He said hard work is the key to his success, which had seen him hit safely in his first 15 games of the season before he went 0-for-5 Wednesday in the Red Sox’s 15-8 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Ortiz’s average fell to .381. He has four homers and 17 RBIs after missing the season’s first 15 games due to a heel ailment.

Dating back to last season, Ortiz had a 27-game hitting before his Wednesday oh-fer. Counting his final 12 games of 2012, Ortiz went 41-for-97 (.423) during the 27-game run. He missed 71 of the final 72 games last year and all of spring training because of his heel woes.

David Ortiz denies PED use amid rumours

Is he believable??

Actually, the only performance enhancing drug Papi is using is his brain. If you look at his production over the last few years, you'll note that his resurgence began at the same time that Adrian Gonzalez joined the Red Sox. Not coincidentally, that was the time that Papi started hitting the ball to the opposite field.

Note that the Three Musketeers keep belching gibberish about Buchholz days after the story has been debunked from many different corners.

Rivera Saves 13th

Mariano Rivera is now tied for the AL lead with 13 saves

Rivera:

13 for 13 in saves
1.88 ERA
0.98 WHIP

All below his career numbers on ERA and WHIP at age 43. I see no reason why he should retire at this point.

Congratulations to Robinson Cano on his getting his 1500th hit today, at age 30.
