Well, you're right that you have no credibility, but as far as debunking Morris and Hayhurst, I'm smarter than to rely on The Eck. No, the debunking comes from many sources, from Fangraphs to Baseball Prospectus to Brooks Baseball. You should try reading them; you might learn something.

I was being sarcastic, rumps. You some modesty problems, rumps.

Anyhow, I think a couple of ex-major league pitchers like Morris and Hayhurst have credibility, especially when they saw film evidence from a camera filming the game. Eck is eck, if you know what I mean. He's disgusting, not as good as a pitcher as Morris.

And who the hell are these guys from Fangraphs, Baseball Prospectus, and Brook Baseball? Bloggers? Any them ever play baseball like Morris and Hayhurst? No.

They are some of the "boyz" that said because of statistical analysis the 2011 red sox were gonna be the best team evah which happily (not sadly) failed miserably lol........... talk about credibility bwhahahahaahahaahahaha sorry, but they have none, zero, zilch, NOTTA credibility and most definately ARE to be taken lightly :thumb:

Here's a quote I found posted by Joe.T's great grandfather in 1926. Looks like the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.

"Can anyone explain to me how Babe Ruth (a historically large, unathletic man) can do what he's doing, coming off of an injury? That's not a rhetorical question, I'm actually curious if anyone who's been following him closely might know."

The big difference between Morris and Eck is that one is deservedly in the Hall of Fame, the other is deservedly not.

As for the difference between guys who had talent at playing the game and guys who have talent at statistical analysis and understanding physics, if it's beyond you, I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain it. By the way, two of the worst manager of all time were Walter Johnson and Ted Williams.

Let's look at their stats, rumps.

Jack Morris won 254 games, lost 186, 3.90 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, average of 242 innings pitched per season for his 18 seasons.

Dennis Eckersley won 197 games, lost 171, 3.50 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, average of 156 innings pitched per season for his 24 seasons.

I don't see a lot of difference in their stats, rumps. Eckersley surely isn't much better than Morris. In fact, you could argue, by Morris pitching far more innings per season, his stats are more meaningful.

And I guess you are a baseball statistical physicist in your own mind?

You way above us all, rumps, you egotistical no nothing.

Jack Morris, 0 saves, 0 CY, 0 MVP

From anybody else, I'd take this as an insult; from you, it's a compliment. I wonder how long the mods are going to allow your name-calling?

Exactly. I didn't change Joe's quote. I made up a quote and attributed it to someone else. Fortunately, Joe has a sense of humor.

Daaaaammmmn! Three straight posts about Rumps and no baseball. OMG! The definition of a FAKE FAN!
Too busy calling people names to discuss the game, I guess.

Anyone who thinks a failed, I shouldn't even use the word, "player" like Hayhurst who only saw 25 games total in the Majors has credibility must be joking.
Merlot, the fact that Hayhurst had a short career has little to do with it. Dan Brooks never played baseball, but he has certainly shed an awful lot of light on a lot of things about the game through his site, brooksbaseball.net. Debunking Hayhurst's silliness is just one of his contributions to our understanding of the game.

Brooks, by the way, is a postdoctoral fellow in Neuroscience at Brown. Baseball is a hobby.

Awesome Rumps. This is what happens when people post just to say crap. They don't think about how bad they will look. Indeed, Ruth was partying often drunk slob, who happened to be the greatest power hitter of all time. Not to mention also being one of the toughest pitchers of his day. Not bad for a sloppy bum
Actually, Merlot, my invented quote has a historical basis. Ruth missed much of the 1925 season with what was referred to by the press as "the bellyache heard round the world." His ailment, which restricted his season to less than 100 games, had much to do with the excesses which ruled The Babe's life.

Hey Mr. Baseball (sarastically, rumps, don't let it go to your egotistical head)

Cleveland Indians just won to put themselves over .500.

Remember when Mr. Baseball said the Indians stunk?

Indians are playing decent ball, contrary to what the self-proclaimed baseball guru here says.

Well Merlot,

God only knows what you write in your posts. Not ever sure it's baseball or what it is ... don't want to waste precious human years investigating.

By the way, I probably saw more games as a kid than you ever saw in your life. So you calling me a fake fan is a fake statement, merlo.

Well Merlo.
Hasn't a mod stated that a intentional misspelling of a member's name designed to insult, as this one obviously does, is prohibited?

dd41 your obsession with Rumps is now bordering on psychotic!! You should really take a break because it's quite obvious he totally gets you unraveled.
Apparently so. I'm here to discuss baseball; DD is clearly here with another agenda.

You allegedly talk baseball, but in reality you belittle other teams, players and posters who disagree with you, etc.

It stuck twice????

trans·par·ent, adj,
1. adjective having the property of transmitting rays of light through its substance so that bodies situated beyond or behind can be distinctly seen.
2. so sheer as to permit light to pass through; diaphanous.
3. easily seen through, recognized, or detected: transparent excuses.

In baseball news, it seems the Yankees, desperate for asses to fill the thousands of empty seats in The House that Ruth Didn't Build are now selling tickets through Groupon.

In Inevitable Move, New York Yankees Offer Groupons

Despite an 18-12 record -- good enough for second place in the American League East -- the New York Yankees continue to struggle attract fans to home games.

Attendance at Yankees games is down 8 percent this season and continues to drop. On Tuesday, it began offering Groupons -- something the team didn't do last year until June. The team's current offers are for six mid-week games against the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians, and include discounted field-level seats and half-price terrace-level seats.

Granted, the Yankees' ticket offers don't seem as desperate as the Miami Marlins' Groupons, which have included opening-day tickets and merchandise credits. However, it's part of a growing trend. As I described last month, the Yankees have been desperate to give away tickets to some games, even offering $5 grandstand, terrace, and bleacher tickets. (The New York Mets, meanwhile, are offering free tickets to any game in May to anyone who speaks to a salesperson about buying season tickets this season.)

Through 19 home games this season, the injury-plagued Yankees have averaged 37,414 fans (paid attendance) per game. Last season, through the same number of home games, the team averaged 40,710.

When the new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009, paid attendance never dropped below 42,000 fans. In 2010, the low dropped to 41,571. In 2011, it dropped to 40,045. Last year, the team's low point was 36,831, set during a mid-April game against the Minnesota Twins. This season, the team set a new low when it drew only 31,445 against the Toronto Blue Jays last month.

Through it all, the team's season ticket licensees are also being squeezed out of trying to resell their tickets on the Yankees' online ticket exchange, which continues to offer severely discounted tickets. The team has tried to appease licensees by offering opportunities to let kids run the bases, play catch in the outfield, and take pictures of Yankees warming up, but the allure is beginning to wear off.

What!! $5.00 to watch Eduardo Nunez and Ivan Nada?? Who do they think they're kidding?
