Unreal. I have never seen someone argue so much non-stop about something so silly.
Yup. I know. Especially when "someone" is so dead wrong...so consistently, on so many subjects. Even going so far as to post a long irrelevant article from Sports Illustrated twice. Go figure.

No, rumps. I was not wrong. You misinterpreted my statement.

I am going to leave it at that, because we all know that all you want to do is fight about non-sense.

Yes, and he's playing pretty well. I think I read he hasn't played outfield since High School? He hasn't made an error and he's had a few putouts.

In the real world, Overbay played his first game in the outfield since the low minors. He had one chance, a lazy fly ball that he had to come in a few steps for.

Hello Boyz,

Yes, and he's playing pretty well. I think I read he hasn't played outfield since High School? He hasn't made an error and he's had a few putouts.

It's always fascinating to meet a die-hard Edsel salesman. Just keep ignoring the problems. Beeep Beeep! :D

Putting Lyle Overbay in right field shows just how desperate struggling Yankees have gotten

After a giddy first six weeks of the season in which a collection of scrap-heap castoffs led the Yankees to the unexpected rarified heights of first place, the plethora of injuries to befall them finally has begun to take its toll.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...ll-desperate-measures-yanks-article-1.1362361

There was no getting around the irony Monday night that, on the occasion of Nick Swisher’s return to the Bronx, his old position in right field for the Yankees was being filled by a certified first baseman who hadn’t experienced a day in the outfield since Double-A ball at El Paso in 2001.

Swisher insisted he hasn’t concerned himself with what the Yankees have been up to since the two sides cut ties last winter, but if he watched Lyle Overbay trotting out to right field and thought to himself: this was something that wreaked of desperation, he wasn’t alone.

For suddenly, after a giddy first six weeks of the season in which a collection of scrap-heap castoffs belied what it said on the backs of their baseball cards about their declining skills and led the Yankees to the unexpected rarified heights of first place, the plethora of injuries to befall them finally has begun to take its toll. And, yes, things are getting desperate up in the Yankee Stadium executive offices — to the point where, Monday, Hal Steinbrenner diverted from the Pinstripe Bowl press conference dialogue to admit his concern at the recent string of losing, and reminded everyone of the Yankees’ disenchantment with Alex Rodriguez.

They’re struggling, no doubt about it,” the Yankee managing general partner said about his troops, who, before riding Mark Teixeira’s 325-foot grand slam into the short right field porch and Travis Hafner’s tack-on homer to a much-needed 7-4 victory over the Cleveland Indians, had scored one or fewer runs in five of their previous seven games. “Let’s keep perspective here. We’re (21/2) games out in the toughest division in baseball. But we need to start hitting. They know that. They know that.”

RELATED: AWESOME NIGHT, BRO: SWISHER RETURNS TO BRONX

And as long as he was availing himself to talk about the state of the Yankees, it was inevitable someone would ask him about A-Rod who, aside from a couple of cameo appearances in the Yankee clubhouse, has been absent from the club this season as he slowly goes about the rehab of his surgically-repaired left hip. The five years, $114 million left on A-Rod’s contract of course remains a sore subject with the owner, so while expressing (fake?) hope the eternal lightning rod third baseman will somehow make it back — “we need all the help we can get” — Hal could not help readdressing the fact that “there have no doubt been times that we’ve been disappointed in him and we’ve conveyed that to him.”

But right now what troubles the Yankees and their high command has nothing to do with A-Rod. Rather, it is everything that was troublesome for them back in March when they faced the season with an aging team that was seemingly breaking down everywhere. The loss of Curtis Granderson for the second time, combined with Vernon Wells’ prolonged May slump has opened up the new hole in right field that, against the Indians’ right-handed ace, Justin Masterson, Joe Girardi elected to fill with Overbay. That Brennan Boesch, a left-handed hitter like Overbay and an accomplished right fielder who had gone 4-for-7 with a homer and two RBI on the current homestand, was sacrificed to the minors to make room for Monday night’s starter, Andy Pettitte, spoke loudly to the Yankees’ distrust in Teixeira’s wrist remaining sound.

“We feel a need to be a little creative here because of all the injuries,” Girardi explained. “It’s a small ballpark and I don’t feel you need to be a Gold Glove to play right field here.”

Indeed, Overbay sounded as surprised as anyone to be told to start shagging flies. It was either that or go back on the unemployment line and, happily, his first game in unfamiliar territory was uneventful.

“They told me they needed me to be versatile or not be here. They needed me to play the outfield,” said Overbay, who went 1-for-3 with a walk. “That’s why I got released in Pittsburgh and Boston — because I lacked versatility.”

But these are desperate times in the Bronx right now — in which the Yankees currently have no other recourse but to force versatility upon him. When asked if he had any tips for Overbay in his old stomping grounds, Swisher laughed. “Enjoy it, that’s all. This is a great place to be, bro!”

After a mostly lost week, which wrought some desperate measures, it was again Monday night. Swisher was back, but so, too, were the old familiar Yankee bombs to right field.

The Yankees can thank their stars CC still shows signs of life...and they've got that right field home run tunnel, even if it's getting fewer and fewer chances to push balls over the wall.

Cheers,

Merlot

Actually you as a red sox fan should hope he is not suspended, because it opens the door for the Yanks to possibly void the rest of his contract, thus saving "ovah" 100mil.

I think you will see David Otiz listed before Cano. ;) and if not then oRtiz is paying someone off.

Really not much of a surprise, I guess the only surprising thing is that Robbie Cano hasn't been outed yet.

Hmmm,

Players Under Scrutiny

Nelson Cruz Rangers
Fautino de los Santos Free agent
Gio Gonzalez* Nationals
Yasmani Grandal Padres

oRtiz would probably pay a lot of chowdah to get off of that list. Damn isn't David Ortiz older than rump's approved age for baseball players? How can he be doing so well? :noidea:

Great point Merlot!! Just goes to show what a FILTHY organization they truly are!! Makes you wonder about the incredibly suspect resurgence of Hafner & Overbay this season. No doubt they're dirty as well.

If he was built more like a Mo Rivera, then not many concerns at all about his using but his head is as big as Barry Bonds was and is one of the signs associated with using roids. Lets just say if he is using, i and many others would not be surprised at all.

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...rodriguez-ryan-braun-part-miami-investigation

The article says that Manny Ramirez had a connection to Bosch. We all know that Manny R. did steroids because he ended his career with a suspension with the LA Dodgers.

As for A-Rod, as lggy said, it could give the Yankees a way out of A-Rod's contract. Melky Cabrera is no surprise. He was busted for a 50-day suspension last year when he was with the SF Giants. And Cabrera has not been with the Yankees since 2009. Cabrera failed the steroids test, so they may not bust him again unless they can prove he used it again.

That list in the article used the word "might". The text says above the players says: "Major League Baseball will seek to suspend about 20 players connected to Biogenesis, OTL has learned. Among the players who might ultimately face discipline:" There are 15 names on the list in the article. So some names may drop and some may be added?

When Bonds started with the Pirates, Bonds was also a sleek, thin guy who could hit, but his limit was maybe high 20s, low 30s HR a year.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bondsba01.shtml

In fact, Bonds HR production with the Pirates was (starting in 1986 to 1992) 16, 25, 24, 19, 33, 25, 34.

With the SF Giants, he hit (from 1993 to 2007) 34, 46, 37, 33, 40, 37, 34, 49, 73, 46, 45, 45, 5, 26, 28. Bonds was age 35 to 39 when he hit 49, 73, 46, 45 and 45 HR's.

David Ortiz's OPS was never over .839 when he was with Minnesota. The most HR's he hit was 20 when he played 125 games. He had 58 HR's in 6 years with Minnesota. He didn't play full seasons, but he was not a power hitter.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/o/ortizda01.shtml

His OPS exploded with Boston. The first year with Boston his OPS was .839 and then from there it was close to or over 1.000. Ortiz is 37 and he has an OPS of over 1.000 last year and this year. Ortiz has averaged 32 HR's a year with Boston in 11 years, with a low of 23 (last year) and a high of 54 (2006). At 37, he is on target of hitting 30 HR's if he stays healthy.

So is David Ortiz suspect of using steroids. We know that his teammate Manny Ramirez certainly did and both were the same size --- BIG, REALLY, BIG.

Mark Teixeira is getting off to a good start. He hit another HR, a grand slam. He was 2 for 3 and 1 walk and 4 RBI's.

For anyone who keeps track of OPS, his OPS stands at 1.056.

He was swinging the bat really well.

Teixeira big flies have won each of the last two games. What was missing were the bats of Granderson and Teixeira and at least one of those guys is back in the middle of the order.
