Agree with you Doc, but do you really think Babcock wont resign during the season? I know what he says and all but money talks no? And would detroit be that stupid NOT to pay him what he wants? The "pizza-pizza guy" has the money.

EB, the big question is when do the 'canes trade away the staal brothers?

Detroit ain't doing that much better.

Oh really? Well, let's look at some FACTS and then form an intelligent opinion:

Detroit and Toronto have each played 8 games so far. Detroit has 10 of a possible 16 points (62.5%). Toronto has 7 of a possible 16 (43.8%...if we round UP).

Detroit is 9th out of 30 teams in the league, Toronto is 25th.

Detroit is 5th out of 16 teams in the Eastern Conference, Toronto is 14th.

Detroit is 3rd out of 8 teams in the Atlantic Division, Toronto is 7th.

Detroit has a goal differential of plus 1, Toronto has a goal differential of minus 4.

Detroit soundly defeated Toronto the one time they played this season.

Detroit soundly defeated Toronto the one time they played in the pre-season.

All this despite the fact that Detroit was without Pavel Datsyuk (the most skilled hockey player in the world) for its first 5 games, and has also been without Franzen and Howard for a game each...while Toronto has had NO significant injuries so far.

Toronto has outshot its opponents in exactly ONE of its 8 games so far. The Toronto coach, best known for having difficulties with toasters, has already publicly criticized his entire team, while the DETROIT coach is universally regarded as the best hockey coach in the world today and one of the best of all time.

Detroit has one of the best GMs of all time in Ken Holland, while Toronto is following its tradition of GMs like John Ferguson Jr. and Brian Burke with Dave Nonis, who it appears should be called "Lame Duck Nonis" since the poor guy has people above, beside and below him all taking part in what is clearly a plan to soon expel him from his position. In fact the whole operation is in disarray, with Tim Leiweke having given his notice a few months ago to leave the rapidly sinking ship.

Detroit has two guaranteed Hall of Famers on its current roster (Datsyuk and Zetterberg) and Toronto has NONE.

Detroit has a raft of great young players (Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Sheahan, Mrazek,....) while Toronto has NONE.

Detroit is doing a good job of managing the cap, while Toronto has mortgaged its future with longterm expensive contracts to deadweights like Phaneuf, Kessel and Clarkson.

That's just THIS season. If we look at recent history we learn that Detroit has made the playoffs for the past 23 consecutive seasons while the Leafs have made them ONCE in the past decade (and that ONCE was in a shortened season). The ONE time the Leafs made the playoffs, they bowed out in the first round by staging the most epic collapse in the HISTORY of playoff game sevens. Detroit has 4 Cups in the past 17 years, while Toronto has ZERO in the past 47. In fact, Toronto has not even made the finals since 1967 - not surprising, when we consider that Toronto has NEVER won more than two playoff rounds in a single year.

THOSE are the FACTS.

I believe you meant to write 're-sign' and not 'resign', correct?

If so, no, i don't believe that Babcock will re-sign with the Red Wings. He wants more money than Detroit is willing to give him. He also wants to be the highest paid NHL coach. For this to happen, Babcock would be paid more than his boss, GM Ken Holland. In the NHL, this kind of stuff doesn't happen. Babcock also knows some teams out there will give him the kind of deal he wants, and he'd be foolish not to put himself out on the market to find out what amount he could fetch. Just like any other high-profile free agent in any sport.

Very few teams out there would be willing to pay him what he wants, which is why Toronto & their filthy-wealthy ownership group would seem like a perfect destination for him. He's close to president Brendan Shanahan & Carlyle's added extra year wasn't exactly a big vote of confidence. Plus the fact that all of Carlyle's assistants (minus Rick St-Croix) were fired by the team's upper management only goes to show that the writing's on the wall.

Babcock not only wants to be the league's top paid coach, i was told from someone close to the league that he'd also want more authority in terms of player control, similar to Patrick Roy's situation in Colorado. And there's rumbling that over the past couple of years, Babcock and Holland haven't always seen eye-to-eye in terms of player personnel. In other words, it's not exactly a perfect marriage at the current time.

The bottom line is that i'd be shocked if Mike Babcock is still the Detroit Red Wings coach next season. Shocked!!

Nice win by the Oilers against the habs last night. 3-0 shutout. Habs benched Price, but you can't win any games if you can't score. Habs face the Flames tonite and it would't surprise me if they lost again. Galchenyuk has played very well this season. Habs got him with the 3rd overall pick by finishing last in the conference just a few years ago. So far he's been the best of the bunch, but i haven't given up on Yakupov. A change of scenery may do wonders for him.

Semyon Varlamov sued by ex-girlfriend for domestic violence issues

DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov is the subject of a civil suit filed by his ex-girlfriend in Denver district court stemming from multiple domestic violence incidents alleged to have occurred during their relationship.

Varlamov was arrested on assault charges against his then-girlfriend last October, although the charges were later dismissed in December after prosecutors found that they did not have the evidence necessary to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Semyon Varlamov is the subject of a civil suit filed by his ex-girlfriend alleging the Avalanche goalie assaulted her on multiple occasions.

Now the 26-year-old netminder is in headlines again with his ex-girlfriend, Evgeniya Vavrinyuk, seeking general, compensatory and punitive damages for reduction in past, present and future income, damage to her reputation, humiliation and emotional distress.

The suit details multiple incidents spanning from November 2012 to October 2013 in which the plaintiff alleges that Varlamov kicked, punched and repeatedly abused and threatened her in fits of drunken rage.

Vavrinyuk alleges the incidents occurred in their native Russia and while on vacation to the Maldive Islands, as well as in the United States, but that she feared calling the police in the latter because of Varlamov's star status as a professional hockey player.

"Obviously this case is very important," Vavrinyuk's lawyer, Keith Fink, told ESPN.com via email. "Professional sports organizations and collegiate programs need a wake-up call that domestic violence is an extremely serious issue and a huge problem that must be addressed with draconian penalties on an organizational and institutional level to the athlete involved. The current laissez faire approach enables domestic violence and is not something our society will countenance."

Fink is presumably referring to the Ray Rice case that rocked the National Football League last month, when the Baltimore Ravens player was shown on video to have knocked out his then-fiancée Janay Palmer after striking her in a hotel elevator. He was later suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

The National Hockey League is not without its own incidents, either. Just last week, Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was arrested on felony domestic violence charges.

Although charges have not been officially filed against Voynov -- he has a court date Dec. 1, and the investigation is ongoing -- the NHL suspended him immediately.

But the circumstances surrounding the case of Voynov and Varlamov are different, not to mention the dramatically different landscape in the handling of domestic violence issues in professional sports.

While the NHL allowed the legal process to play out in Varlamov's case last season -- he was never suspended and, in fact, played the night after he was released from jail -- it acted swiftly to suspend Voynov.

That does not mean that Varlamov will be immune to supplementary discipline from the league in the future, however, a high-ranking league official confirmed to ESPN.com. Depending on what evidence comes to light as the result of a civil suit, the league still has the latitude to apply punishment where it sees fit.

Calls and emails to Varlamov's attorneys and agent were not immediately returned.

Nice win by the Oilers against the habs last night.

Indeed.

And after that win, all Canadian teams except two (two of the expected three, since Calgary - incredibly - is doing well so far) are now averaging at least a point a game.

Canadian Teams, In Current Order:

1. Montreal 14 points (9 GP)
2. Calgary 11 points (10 GP)
3. Vancouver 10 points (8 GP)
4. Ottawa 9 points (7 GP)
5. Edmonton 9 points (9 GP)

and THEN the two at the bottom:

6. Toronto 7 points (8 GP)
7. Winnipeg 6 points (8GP)

Vezina trophy winner Bobrovsky out at least one week

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was put on injured reserve Tuesday and will be out at least a week after he suffered a fractured finger during practice Monday.

Curtis McElhinney will get the start in goal against Ottawa on Tuesday night. Anton Forsberg was added on emergency recall from the team's AHL affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts

I just learned that hockey great Gordie Howe suffered a stroke Sunday night. He's paralyzed on one side & currently unable to speak. He's conscious & does recognize the people he knows. I feel for the guy. On top of battling Parkinson's, now he's paralyzed with a stroke. May he recover from that stroke a.s.a.p and spend the rest of his years peacefully & pain free.

Parkinson's, dementia & now a stroke. You sometimes wonder if the head injuries & concussions he suffered during his career aren't responsible for most of his health issues over the past few years.

Bruins lose another defenceman to injury

Last night the Boston Bruins lost defenceman Torey Krug to a broken finger. He's expected to miss about 3 weeks. I haven't seen the video, but from what i've been told the tip of his finger was cut off & had to be re-attached by the team doctor.

His loss will be a blow to the team, with Zdeno Chara and Kevan Miller already out for some time. The team already doesn't have much depth due to salary cap constraints and here's hoping none of their top forwards also go down to injury. Same with their goaltending situation. There's not much left behind Tukka Rask.

Krug's injury happened after being slashed by Wild star Zack Parise.

October 31 Toronto and Detroit both won.

Toronto, despite being outshot, defeated the 27th place Columbus Blue Jackets and replacement goalie Curtis McElhinney, who is 0-2 this season as Bobrovsky was among the 8 Columbus regulars missing due to injuries.

Detroit, meanwhile, outshot the defending champion Los Angeles Kings and all-world goaltender Jonathan Quick.

Phil Kessel had 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). Pavel Datsyuk also had 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist).

The difference? Phil had 3 giveaways and NO takeaways, while Pav had 3 takeaways and NO giveaways.

Another difference? Phil had 2 shots, Pav had 7.

Looking for another difference? Okay, try this: Phil had no hits and blocked no shots. Pav? 1 hit, 1 blocked shot.

Faceoffs? Phil didn't take any. Pav won 52% of his.

What i've concluded from reading this thread......

-still a lot of people care for the habs.
-many care for the Leafs, including a few Leafs haters who can't stop referring to them in their posts.
-a few care for the Bruins.
-one guy cares for the Oilers & is very honest about the team's status.
-Nobody gives a fuck about Detroit or the Red Wings except one Leafs hater. So i figure that since nobody gives a fuck about the Red Wings when he posts about them, that's why he keeps bashing the Leafs and their fans since his boring life is wasting away & he needs attention.....

I noticed that Detroit has an unusual number of Eurodudes on their team. At one point in last night's game 8 out of 9 points had been recorded by a Eurodude on the Red Wings. They seem to like Swedes and Russians.

Funny, but "what I've concluded" is that your post has nothing to do with HOCKEY but a lot to do with breaking MERB rules by posting a personal insult, something for which you have already been suspended a couple of times in the last few months.

I also find it amusing that someone with almost 13,000 (!) posts is accusing someone else of having a "boring life" and "needing attention".

As for hockey, how about that Henrik Zetterberg? He's again starting the season with MVP-like play.

And how about that Pavel Datsyuk? Back from injury and as usual playing great.

Oh yeah, what about Gustav Nyquist? 7 goals in 10 games, as the hottest goal scorer in the NHL during the last half of 2013-2014 continues to fill the net in 2014-2015.

The Habs are also off to a great start.
