Hilarious: The Leafs are desperately trying to undo what Burke and Nonis did. They COULD have had Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton years ago but they made that ridiculous trade for Kessel, which they've paid for for years and are obviously going to continue paying for. As predicted at the time, that horrible, wretched trade RUINED their future...and did NOTHING for their present either, as evidenced by their complete failure throughout the Burke and Nonis years..

"Thank you Mr. Burke." "Thank you Mr. Nonis." HA HA HA!

The bRuins decline will continue next season and beyond, hopefully.

They have major cap issues and need to clear up some space in order to re-sign their RFA's. I'm certain they're doing their best in trying to get rid of Chara's big contract. Some Bruins insiders have told me that Milan Lucic is another player they're considering to get rid of. I've also heard Brad Marchand's name being dangled around.

Friday i was told that Malcolm Subban may be moved. Coach Claude Julien isn't very high on him and would rather see him go elsewhere.

By the way, has anyone other than Cairo ever heard of Jeff Blashill before the past month or so? I'm fairly knowledgeable in hockey, but i must admit that i had never heard of this bum before.

Chara should fetch a 3rd or 4th round pick "IF" the bruins pay half his salary as well. He is about washed up these days and a shell of his former self.

That makes three of us that had never heard of "jeff blashill" until recently, MISTER Holliday, your's truly and cairo.

Look behind you.
I agree with you, STN. But i'm still very surprised at the timing of the firing.

Speculating here.. Perhaps he got all 4 scouts in a room and asked " What do you got, what do we need and who do you want and who will you give up? "
After their replies it is a " You are Fucking retards, you are fired get out ".
But that is just a guess.

Your source did not tell you he was an assistant coach to babcock in Detroit does that make him a bum also?

If Holliday "never heard of Jeff Blashill before the past month or so", then Holliday has given incriminating evidence against himself that he is definitely not "fairly knowledgeable in hockey".

No surprise that you never heard of him. You probably also never heard of Scotty Bowman, Toe Blake or Al Arbour. You've spent too much time concentrating on your heroes: you know, guys like Peter Horachek, Randy Carlyle, Ron Wilson, Dave Nonis, Brian Burke, John Ferguson Jr.,....Hey - one thing I just noticed about your heroes: They all spent time in TO, they all FAILED in TO, and they were all FIRED by TO.

By the way, it's MISTER Cairo to you.

I have! I have! :peace: :D

He was actually requested by 5 teams last offseason for an interview, but declined with an eye towards Babs' potential departure from the Wings. Kenny Holland hedged his bets, and gave Blashill a generous bump in salary with the possibility of moving to varsity in case Babs did leave. And here we are.

Actually not that surprising few have heard of him. Detroiters and Wings fans know because the local press has been on it since last year. Did you hear of Jon Cooper before he became coach of Tampa? Did you know Joel Quenneville as an assistant on the Avs before he took his first head coaching job with the Blues? It's always the case with new coaches versus recycled names.

Congratulation to the Wings for signing Jeff Blashill. On a side note, a little over a year ago,

Blashill was told by Holland that five teams were interested in interviewing him for a coaching job

and that he was free to talk to anyone of them. Blashill replied that he was happy to stay within

the Red Wings organization. Smart move, Mr. Jeff Blashill.

I say that Mr.Blashill will make the playoffs this coming year while Mr. Babcock will not.

Put me in the pool of well informed hockey fans who knew Jeff Blashill well before he was made head coach of

the Detroit Red Wings. I think he will surprise even Mr. Cairo. :thumb:

I thought you said,a while ago that he will be let go by the Bruins.

And now as the coach, he can dictate who he choses who can play for him, for instance, Malcolm Subban.

From my understanding, no coach has that power directly.

Correct me if I'm wrong. He may suggest, maybe ??

Even though the hockey season has ended, the next couple of weeks, will change the face of the upcoming season

with trades, draft picks and UFAs.

It will be interesting who moves, who doesn't, and who did well to improve their team.

Good luck to all, even leaf fans.;)

Sure i did. Coop was a prosecutor before becoming a professional coach, which is how i first heard about him. The coach who was once a prosecutor. A few years later, he got the Tampa job.

As for Quenneville, he played junior hockey with a buddy of mine. I have a few old stories about Quenneville which would be very embarrassing to him were people to learn about them. He also started his career with the Leafs back in the Roger Nielsen days. I believe he was traded with Lanny McDonald to Colorado in that infamous trade where Imlach got back Wilf Paiement and Pat Hickey.

Even though i'm a self-proclaimed hockey encyclopedia, the name Jeff Blashill was mostly unknown to me until rumours about Babcock leaving shithole Detroit started. :D

If it were up to Cam Neely, Julien would have been gone a long time ago. But Peter Chiarelli foiled his plans last year when he gave him an extension. The owners being notoriously cheap (the Jacobs family), they overuled Neely (and Don Sweeney) this time around and told them they weren't going to pay Julien all that money to stay home. Neely then considered firing all of Julien's coaching staff (he falsely believed Julien may quit if this would happen), but finally came to his senses and agreed to keep them.

Julien will be working on a very short rope. Should the Bruins struggle early in the season, he likely will be gone by Christmas.

As for Malcolm Subban, it's no secret among league insiders that Claude Julien doesn't think too highly of him and if they can't trade him, the Bruins will very likely ship him to the minors.

And finally, although i firmly believe that the Bruins are desperately shopping Zdeno Chara around, what i'm hearing now is that the likely player to be moved will be Milan Lucic. Chara's contract is simply too big for a player his age and is scaring a way a lot of potential suitors. The Bruins, being notoriously cheap, have so far refused to pick up a large chunk of Chara's contract were he to be moved. So my guess is that they're stuck with him. But Lucic still has a lot of value and possibly also Brad Marchand. But as i mentionned the other day, Dougie Hamilton might be in play since he's owed a new contract and the Bruins may not have the money to pay him what he wants and deserves. He could very well be moved for a high #1 pick in the upcoming draft.

The NHL has just announced that their salary cap will be $71.4 million next season. The floor will be $52.8 million.

I've also just learned from a source that the regular season schedule will be likely come out by the end of the week, possibly as soon as Thursday.

The rumors about Babcock leaving Detroit started over a year ago yet you proudly announced that you never heard of JB until a month ago.

I guess that explains why you are "a self-proclaimed hockey encyclopedia"

Note to Holliday: Napoleon also thought he was pretty special.
