BOYZ!
I see Shabazz Napier grew up in Roxbury. Along with Dorchester it's one of the toughest places around the Boston metro area and the state to grow up in. Congratulations on his and the team's accomplishments. No doubt the Red Sox are eager to honor him and the team. Since the new ownership with John Henry and Tom Werner the team has become very adept at every angle of public relations that connects with the fans, and the local connection with Shabazz and the National Champion Huskies was another of many astute publicity moves by the team.
As for the Red Sox tonight, the team ranks 23rd in AVG, 23rd in SLG, 21st in OPS, but surprisingly 10th in OBP. As usual they can get on base but have a lot of trouble putting across RUNS where they rank 20th. It makes me realize how miraculous the World Series win was when the Red Sox put so few men on base but were almost miraculously opportunistic at putting them across the plate.
More surprisingly where the Yankees rank 5th in AVG they rank worse than the Red Sox at 22nd in RUNS. By the numbers this won't be a big test for the best pinstripe pitchers, but then who knows when the rivalry factor takes over. It is going to be interesting to see how 3rd baseman Brock Holt holds up against very good pitching now that he is off to a short but very promising start at bat.
Lester 2.17 versus Tanaka 2.05 should be a tight close low scoring game. But who knows. The Yanks should have the advantage if they can put their runners across.
As for Ellsbury, we all knew he would go with the money when the time came. There was no deception and no surprise about his moving on. So I would give him the appreciation he deserves.
