As everyone already knows, the Leafs won the lottery and will likely chose teenage phenom Auston Matthews at the entry draft next June. Winnipeg also did extremely well (okay, they were also very lucky) by going up for spots and will chose second overall. Columbus wound up in third and Edmonton in fourth. Montreal remains in the number nine spot and many believe they'll make a trade with Edmonton in order to be able to draft Pierre-Luc Dubois with the fourth pick.

If the offer is a good one for Edmonton, i wouldn't be surprised if this happens. They could swap picks with Montreal and get rid of a forward in the process. And if this happens (depending on which forward), it's entirely possible that PK Subban will head back to Edmonton if such a trade is to materialize.

Of course, Montreal will likely want Taylor Hall in return. And of course, Edmonton would rather send them Yakupov, Nugent-Hopkins or Eberle. I'm not sure Montreal agrees to send them Subban if Hall isn't the player coming back. Would Montreal agree to two of the three players Edmonton may offer them?

Arizona is also expected to make a very strong pitch to Toronto in order to obtain the right to pick Matthews, a local product. But i doubt Toronto will budge, unless of course Arizona does the foolish thing and trades them all their top players/prospects: Ekman-Larsson, Domi, Strome & Duclair.

It won't happen.

Look behind you.
But the name of the game still is scoring. You can't win games if you can't put the puck in the net. Right habs fans? ;)

The Oilers of old proved that right, in their glory years they would win but it would be 6-4 not the 2-3 games you see now. If you have poor defense or goalie your chances of winning the cup are very slim.

And the GREAT offseason continues for the Leafs.....Highly touted and KHL All Star Dman, Nikita Zaitsev signed with the Leafs.

That's great news!!! In other news, Georges Laracque of 91.9 FM told his listeners yesterday that he had heard from a reliable source that a verbal understanding had already been made between Steven Stamkos and the Leafs. Personally, i doubt it's true since wouldn't it be considered tampering considering Stamkos is still under contract with the Bolts?

Personally, i have mixed feelings about the possibility of Stamkos joining the Leafs next season. I feel it's too early for the marriage and it's not the right fit right now. I also aren't too fond of granting maximum contracts to anyone. They are cap-killers in a league with a hard salary cap. That's the main problem i see in regards to Subban and the habs. However, i have no problem with Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin getting maximum money. But again, i'll be happy if Stammer joins the Leafs, and if doesn't.....big deal. I actually wouldn't be too upset if he ever joined the habs. But for it to happen, they'd have to unload one or two big contracts...or potentially big contracts in the near future. They won't be able to fit the likes of Subban, Stamkos, Pacioretty, Galchenyuk and Price all at once in a couple of years.

By the way, the Calgary Flames fired last year's coach-of-the-year Bob Hartley this morning. I think he'd be a great fit in Ottawa. It makes me wonder if they didn't decide to fire him once Bruce Boudreau became available. Strange coincidence if you ask me. If it's not Boudreau joining the Flames next season, don't be surprised if it's not former Leafs coach Randy Carlyle.

I can't see Ray Shero spending $10 million/year for 7 years on Stamkos. I also can't imagine why Stammer would go through the trouble of relocating from beautiful Tampa to the Meadowlands.

Toronto is where he wants to go or else he would have remained in Tampa.

The St.Louis Blues are giving their 50/50 proceeds to Ft.McMurray tonight. I now have a new team to cheer for in the playoffs, read that their coach is from Alberta.

Here's what reporter Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal suggests the Oilers do this off-season:

Make a move with the Canadiens for Subban

The No. 4 overall, centre Leon Draisaitl and defenceman Oscar Klefbom for Subban and the Habs’ No. 9 overall pick, which would theoretically still get the Oilers one of the top young junior defencemen (Mikhail Sergachev, Olli Juolevi or Jakub Chychrun) on the board.

Before you say, insert Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in there instead because King Leon is big and that’s what the Oilers have been looking for forever, that’s exactly why the Habs would want Draisaitl. Teams covet Leon more than Nugent-Hopkins because of his size, but if the Oilers had to sacrifice Draisaitl, they would still have RNH in the middle along with Connor McDavid.

The Habs are small at centre with the aging Tomas Plekanec, Lars Eller and whomever else, unless they move Alex Galchenyuk and his 30 goals to the middle. Montreal would want a defenceman back to be in their top four if they are moving Subban, and the Oilers are not trading Darnell Nurse, which leaves the slightly older Klefbom and his $4.5 million salary. At No. 4, the Habs could take French-Canadian youngster Pierre Luc Dubois, who plays centre or wing.

p.s. J-C Lajoie and Yvon Pedneault of 91.9 FM said they'd do this trade in a flash if the were in Marc Bergevin's shoes.

Too bad the Oiler brass like Leon and RNH, they are trying to unload Hall and Eberlie from what I hear. And of course the Habs would jump on it, better deal for them.

I'm quite certain the habs and oilers will pull off a major trade, though. What i'm not sure are the players involved.

It's long been a dream to do a summertime VIP party at a lakeside cottage in the country, with steaks and burgers sizzling on gas and charcoal grills, a swimming pool, and kegs of beer. This was actually discussed a few years ago as I recall, and Iggy located a potential property near a lake, but it never went anywhere, for reasons I do not recall.

$ was the reason., not only to rent a place but to bus people there and back as we would never want anyone drinking and driving especially after partying in the hot sun all day long. How about a cruise on the St Lawrence one day for a summer party? I have thought about that but the logistics would likely not work, it would mean many would have to pre pay and good luck with that! LOL

Erik Gudbranson traded to Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks traded forward Jared McCann and a 2016 second- and fourth-round pick to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night for defenceman Erik Gudbranson and a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.
