This is beyond sad. Tellement pas chanceux les deux gars. On dirait le scenario d'un film triste français où tout finit mal de différentes mais pires facons pour chaque personnage à la fin.
-the 43 yr old driver of the Jeep Cherokee which struck the two Gaudreau boys admitted to the cops that he had comsumed at least 5 or 6 beers prior to getting behind the wheel. The cops also found an open beer can in his vehicle.
-the driver stated that his impairment from alcohol affected his judgment & caused him to become impatient. He said he believed that the vehicle ahead of him had moved to the left side of the road & he thought it didn’t want to let him pass & that’s why he decided to try passing both vehicles ahead of him on their right side. He also failed a sobriety test & was charged with several offenses including vehicular homicide, careless driving, having an open beer container inside a vehicle among other offenses. He’s currently in jail & will be arraigned next week.
-The Gaudreau’s younger sister was scheduled to get married today at 1:45pm in Philly. Both her brothers were supposed to be groomsmen at her wedding. It was supposed to be a weekend-long celebration.
-Johnny Gaudreau just turned 31 & was married only three years ago & had two boys under the age of three. His youngest son was also named Johnny & was born last February. As for Matthew he was only 29 & his young wife is expecting their baby in December.
This is an absolute nightmare for the entire Gaudreau family. The NHL community is also devastated. Just the other day i watched a podcast where former Flames & Habs player Sean Monahan was being interviewed & he stated one of the big reasons why he chose to sign with the Blue Jackets was the fact he could join his former linemate & good friend Johnny Gaudreau & mentioned they both had children of the same age. Very sad.
I don't know the laws in New-Jersey for a case like this but I hope he will get the maximum charges and maximum prison term.
And not because he killed a hockey superstar but 2 innocent humans.
I don't have one ounce of pity for that kind of person.
They will be limited to the amount of liability insurance on the car, which I am guessing was the minimum liability limit under New Jersey law, which is $15,000. Beyond that there could be under insured motorist coverage if either of the Gaudreaus had it. The drunk, he probably has no assets. The wrongful death cases would be worth in the millions as they are measured by loss of income streams for the rest of these men's lives.Very possible the guy will also be sued for loss income for the family, huge money.
Jail then broke for life, hopefully.
I feel absolutely terrIble about the tragedy but i actually feel worse for the family members. The parents who just instantly lost their two boys. The young wives who’ll be without their husbands to help them raise their very young children. The children who’ll grow up never to have known their fathers. And their young sister whose fantasy marriage weekend never happened & although she likely get married in the future it will only be a constant reminder of the tragedy that just happened. And will she blame herself for being the main reason why her only two brothers were in the area at this particular time? Such a tragedy which affects so many people!I don't know the laws in New-Jersey for a case like this but I hope he will get the maximum charges and maximum prison term.

Johnny was about to enter the 3rd year of his 7-year $68.25 million contract so i figure that the contract was likely insured so she’ll be getting the remaining portion of the balance plus death benefits. I’m not worried about her finances. But Matthew’s spouse is the one i’d be more worried about since he never earned much money playing minor league hockey in the past & that’s why friends of theirs just started a Go Fund Me account in his name to help her pay for his funeral expenses & to assist her & their upcoming son in the future. The widow will probably get Johnny's NHL pension. He did play 10 years, so he is eligible, although I am not sure if it's immediate. I think I read that she is a Registered Nurse, so she will probably be able to support her young kids.
If the contract was insured, wouldn't Columbus be the beneficiary of any insurance proceeds? It's there to protect the team in the event of the death or severe injury of their investment in their player, not the widow, unless she was a party to the contract. Johnny's wife may be eligible to get some of his pension benefits from the NHL, but Daycare for the kids is expensive, and she will need help with that on her RN salary. Plus those kids have to be educated. If they want to go to Boston College like theifr father and uncle, and do not get an athletic scholarship, it's goingt to cost $64K a year and with room and board maybe around 100K per year.Johnny was about to enter the 3rd year of his 7-year $68.25 million contract so i figure that the contract was likely insured so she’ll be getting the remaining portion of the balance plus death benefits. I think she is still,MATTHEW GAUDREAU'S SPOUSE /MADELINE WAS PREGNANT...
I already posted above baby is expected in 4 months. She IS pregnant. The state of pregnancy doesn't become past tense until the baby is birthed.I think she is still,
Thats what my answer was implying. But I think @gaby also knew that, it’s just a matter of posting in a language that is not yours, it can result in these kind of odd statements.I already posted above baby is expected in 4 months.
