Which is what Montreal needs to do with the Russian guy they drafted.
Demidov only has a year left on his KHL contract so he shouldn’t have a problem joining the organization next year. Since the habs are still in their years-long rebuilding phase there’s no use for them to bring him over this season & starting his NHL career with a team that’s expected to suck wouldn’t be good for his development. Plus the fact he’d likely have to start the season in Laval so letting him play out his final year in the KHL isn’t a bad scenario for both the organization & the player.

This is the justification that most teams use to prolong tanking and sucking as long as possible to stockpile very high draft picks. The problem is how long do you keep doing this and expect the fans to buy what you are doing? At some point the sucking has to stop. And the development of young players needs to be seen. I believe in aggressive development of young players because they only have so long to play and have to be developed sooner rather than later. It's OK if they suck while developing. It's not OK if the team sucks and you aren't making any effort to develop them and are just prolonging the sucking. It does accomplish the objective of amassing a ton of high picks. But fans want to see some progress, not endless sucking with no tangible signs of improvement.

ESPN has praised the Montreal Canadiens acquisition of Patrik Laine as "low risk, high reward":

The Oilers did some trading with SJ, got rid of Cici and got Emberson. Dumped $3.25 mil and acquired $1 mil, would be nice if they found someone to take Nurse.

7 Year Extension for Beniers!!!!
Must say I am VERY surprised by this deal. After a good rookie year, Beniers sucked Gorilla balls last year. Obviously, giving him this kind of money, Seattle management felt the 37 point clunker of a season he turned in last year was an aberration and not a regression to his norm. Fans of the Kraken hope they are right.

Flyers Claim "Material Breach of Contract":, Waive Johnansen
Although the Flyers are being tight-lipped about it, it sounds like they are claiming Johansen's injury was unrelated to hockey. He had played in a game for the Avs 2 days before the trade and there was no injury. Something happened off the ice as a result of something he should not have been doing, or so the Flyers are alleging. One thing that has been clear is that when Johansen played the last 2 years, he has totally sucked.

This is a double whammy for Johansen and his agent as not only do they lose money he was being paid under the contract, he is also being accused of being a contract breaker, which obviously implies dishonesty and impugns his character as a deal-breaker. Given Johansen's age, and declining production, this does not exactly stimulate his professional hockey job prospects.

Johnny Gaudreau

Hopefully this will only turn out to be a false rumor but word has been circulating over the past few minutes that superstar hockey player Johnny Gaudreau was involved in an accident involving two people on bikes getting run over by a drunk driver somewhere in NJ earlier & that Johnny Hockey had since passed away.

As i said nothing’s been confirmed by the authorities & i’m keeping my fingers crossed that news of Gaudreau’s passing is just a bad rumor.
