To my surprise, Washington are accumulating some constant performances that puts them in the the top of the league. They are now 1 point behind the Devils with 4 games in hand. The big question is, will they carry on like that in the playoffs?

Team USA is now 2-0 at World Juniors after taking care of Team Latvia, which Team Canada couldn't do:
In other action Czechia bullied Kazakhstan 14-2.

Jesse Puljujärvi being put on waivers by Pittsburgh, probably the worst 4th pick in the NHL. He should have stayed near home and played the European style of hockey.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now is reporting that this has more to do with Kris Letang's unknown status ('undergoing testing") and freeing up roster space for a depth defensemen, than it does with performance. Although Puljujärvi has not played in a game since December 7. Reportedly the Devils will claim him.

I don’t know if he’s the worse 4th pick because there’s been many stinkers over the years who were picked 1st overall: Patrick Stefan, Nail Yakupov, Erik Johnson, Rick Dipietro, Alexandre Daigle, etc. Nolan Patrick was projected as a top 2 pick in Nico Hischier’s draft pick & ended up being picked #2 by Philly. By the way i consider Jesperi Kotkaniemi one of the worst 3rd overall pick ever & the second he was picked by Montreal overall over Brady Tkachuk i couldn’t believe it! I say “What? Is that a joke?” I took out my Hockey News NHL draft guide & KK was projected no better than #15-19 by many scouts!

Who’s the goalie coach? Good point, by the way.
Found this article

First off all my assumptions that are on this are based on evidence and previous knowledge of Oilers Goalie Coach Dustin Schwartz. I personally believe that he fails in a major aspect of goalie coaching in which part of the job of being a goalie coach is addressing and appropriately dealing with the mental strain goaltending can be in any league of hockey. It is evident to me that goalies in Edmonton often struggle, you could argue maybe the goalies weren’t good. That can be true but goalies that have struggled under Schwartz that did find decent success outside of edmonton include Stolarz, Talbot and to some degree, Brossoit. While Laurent Brossoit is injured, i cannot fully say he found success.

The oilers have cleaned coaching staff multiple times yet Dustin Schwartz still remains. If you look at all of our goalies during the tenure, the best goalie the oilers had in terms of save percentage was Mike Smith, a goalie on the tail end of his career who used his own goalie coach because he didn’t believe that Dustin Schwartz knew what he was doing. While Schwartz found success in the WHL with a stacked Oil kings team, we have found that success in lower leagues doesn’t always translate to the big leagues, a great example would be Dallas Eakins, while his style worked in the AHL, it flopped hard in the NHL.

Recently i heard former star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist criticizing the positioning Stuart Skinner was doing in one of the games. While part of it yes can be on Stuart Skinner, the fact other goalies struggled with Dustin Schwartz still makes this partly on Schwartz. In interviews it is clear that Skinner is deflated, not confident. That is something a goalie coach needs to address. When Stuart Skinner and Mike Smith were together, Skinner seemed more confident. I believe Mike Smith knew how to address the situation and help skinner in his confidence. While Mike Smith was at times reckless and hot headed, he played very well.

Sam Bennett was checked into Shesterkin by defenseman Ryan Lindgren, which caused this injury. Friendly fire!!!!!!!!!
