Lemieux, one of the most hated player of his time but, in those years, if you were a serious Stanley cup contender, you wanted him on your side. He was the definition of the ideal clutch player. 4 Cups and 1 Connie Smythe, he would do anything on the ice to drive his opponents mad, and that included scoring the most important goals.I have pretty vivid memories of the Devils-Red Wing final series for the 1995 Stanley Cup, in which Lemaire's Devils stunned the heavily favored Red Wings in a 4 game sweep using the neutral zone trap. It was an extremely lopsided series.that was the first Stanley Cup championship for New Jersey as they were buoyed by the efforts of Conn Smythe MVP Claude Lemieux and goalie Martin Brodeur. Lemieux was developed by Montreal as a young player before he came to the Devils. I think Jacques Lemaire liked him.
