Thoughts about an expansion:

An expansion could bring fresh talent and opportunities into the league. It would be exciting to see new teams, but the logistics and balance of the competition will be crucial to address.
I disagree. I think there are still too many bad teams in the league & too many bad players. If there’d be NHL talent wastimg away in the minors I’d understand however there are too many non-NHL players already playing in the league right now. All expansion would do is dilute the talent pool further & that would damage the current product even more. I believe there are already too many teams in the NHL & the season is way too long.

Demko sure hasn't gotten his form back, Canucks could find it tough to make the playoffs.

Devils Induct Jacques Lemaire Into Ring of Honor:
Apparently, he was an excellent offensive player in the minors before becoming a great defensive forward in the NHL. While I regard him an extremely intelligent in finding ways to win at hockey, both as a player and coach, he ruined hockey as a spectator sport for me with his introduction of the Trap to the NHL.

One pays for entertainment and I find nothing entertaining in the Trap, Chip and Chase, blocking the middle in front of the goalie, shot blocking and cycling along the boards. I've seen films of hockey pre-60s in which the goalie had a glove only slightly bigger than a baseball mit, rather than the butterfly net currently used.

Lemaire is by no means the only one who has made watching more than a few minutes of hockey intolerably boring for me, but if I had to choose on whom to lay the blame, he would top the list.

853 games played, 835 points! 974 points in 998 games if you include his playoffs. Not bad for a defensive forward!
For sure his system with the Devils was shit to watch but he had the perfect line-up to develop it to near perfection.

I have pretty vivid memories of the Devils-Red Wing final series for the 1995 Stanley Cup, in which Lemaire's Devils stunned the heavily favored Red Wings in a 4 game sweep using the neutral zone trap. It was an extremely lopsided series.that was the first Stanley Cup championship for New Jersey as they were buoyed by the efforts of Conn Smythe MVP Claude Lemieux and goalie Martin Brodeur. Lemieux was developed by Montreal as a young player before he came to the Devils. I think Jacques Lemaire liked him.

Lemieux, one of the most hated player of his time but, in those years, if you were a serious Stanley cup contender, you wanted him on your side. He was the definition of the ideal clutch player. 4 Cups and 1 Connie Smythe, he would do anything on the ice to drive his opponents mad, and that included scoring the most important goals.

Bizarre penalty against Matthews during Leafs lost last night. Him and Merzlikins collided and both lost their sticks, Merzlikins picked up Matthews stick to defend his net and Matthews did the same with the goalie’s stick but quickly dropped it without making any action with it. When the play was stopped, Matthews got a 2 minutes penalty for an illegal stick!!!

The Rangers are on quite a roll! But it shouldn’t be surprising considering many predicted they’d be Cup contenders this season & have one of the best goalies in the league. Plus the fact Peter Laviolette is a very good coach. Elsewhere the Habs got their asses handed to them in Detroit & Ottawa has been very inconsistent. Brady Tkachuk hasn’t had a point in nine games & it’s really starting to bother him. Tomorrow’s game against the rival Leafs is a big one for them. Toronto already leads their division & are banged up already so a loss wouldn’t be such a big deal for them.

In other news the Islanders signed Tony Deangelo & i can’t understand that decision by the 82-year old GM. Deangelo is a talented player but he’s been a cancer on every team’s he’s played on. THE PLAYERS HATE HIM! He even burned bridges in the KHL & he was so detrimental to the team that although he was one of the best players on the team they sent him back home!

The trade is a little better for Colorado than you suggest. Martin Necas had 55 points for Carolina, almost as productive as Rantanen. However I am surprised by the trade, like you. I suspect Necas may have been in Brind'Amour's doghouse.

The next Rangers captain is going to be either Vinnie Trochek or Ryan Lindgren. My money is on Vinnie!
