It is amazing that you think so much about Joseph Stalin. This is quite troubling. I think Uncle Joe takes second only to Chairmen Mao in murder.
No one says the Soviet were nice (and Stalin in particular), but that is not the point. It is undeniable they were an important force against the Nazis. On the other hand, we can consider that Hitler had an important effect against the Red Menace. When the bear and the wolf fight, who win? The other animals. It is always too simplistic to paint everything as ''us'' vs ''them''. There's always more than two sides to any story.

(hard to say who is the biggest bad guy. Actually, Cain is probably the biggest murderer of all times for killing 50% of the male population at the time. And MacKay is a close second in my book)

Hungry, i know the soviets and Stalin where not perfect. Actually i know Stalin was a paranoid person and kill many of his own army just because of that. When i think of the soviets i think as one big red machine that where back then considered to be the greatest force of them all. Everyone united under one flag. It happen Stalin was the head of it at the time. If the German didn't attack the Russian what would had happen? Nobody know... Its hard for me to go too thecnical in english as you know its not my main language. But the thing is the soviet union didn't started with Stalin and didn't end with him either. I am well aware we got close to WW3 between the americans and soviets and yes i do think Putin and Russians in general are very drastic in there measures all the time. But the world is a fucked up place man... all over the place. Those war times and such are not done, there just done in civilized countries... but in many other countries it still feel like 1940.

When i look outside my window(metaphorically speaking) i reallize a huge part of the world is dirty as shit... Africa and such are in misery, with local factions commiting atrocities too. The arabian world (Syria, Irak, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt) are fill with animals that don't even deserve to be called humans... If it was only terrorist groups... but no even some regular familly members kill them owns if they "dishonor" the familly or such...

Mexico and latin american ain't pink either... lots of shit going there. So when i look around me, exept canada wich is as peacefull as you can get, i don't see that many countries that are like us. France, UK, and other europe countries yes... but even china, japan and the asian nations are lots of problems... and im not even talking about North Korea...

As for the states... well... it depends. There obviously a ton of stuff i like about the US, when it comes to entertainement and such. But i hate there governement, there constitution and the way they put there big nose in everybody's business...

Hello all,

It is amazing that you think so much about Joseph Stalin. This is quite troubling. Remember he and his buddy Hitler signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop treaty in WWII.

This is quite correct. In order to rebuild itself and regain it's old standing and glory the German army made a deal with Hitler to get rid of his huge "Brown Shirt" army of thugs under one of Hitler's closest friends Ernst Roehm whose civil army had been instrumental in bringing Hitler to power. Hitler knew he needed a professional army to accomplish his plans and so had Roehm eliminated in the "Night of the Long Knives" with the Brown Shirts disbanded and absorbed into the regular army at a cost to the army of swearing personal allegiance to Hitler, not to Germany in 1934. After that the German Army General Staff became more and more anxious to get rid of Hitler. There were numerous assassination attempts, but the army was most hopeful that the prospect of going to war against Russian as well as the West (dreading another 2-front war) would ruin Hitler. Stalin's decision to sign the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 1939 that made territorial deals between Germany and the Soviet Union and stopped the threat of war between these countries ending the German Army's hopes of getting rid of Hitler and unleashing him on the world...thus making Stalin equally guilty for every death in World War II.

I believe that what George Mason said still rings true: To disarm the people [is] the best and most effective way to enslave them.

Okay, but I would have to direct you to look at Canada on that one.

Everyone united under one flag. It happen Stalin was the head of it at the time.

"United under one flag"? You mean in sheer terror of both Stalin and Hitler. Between approximately 1924, when Stalin was consolidating power, and 1939 Stalin may already have killed 10 to 15 or 20 million of his own people. There were endless purges including one in 1937-1938 where 90% of the Soviet Army's highest General Staff officers were murdered after phoney trials. Between 1932-1933 Stalin manufactured a famine in the Ukraine that killed between 3 to 7 million people. This state of terrors within the Soviet Union under Stalin tore into everyone's lives. "UNITED"???????????? If you define the word as choosing between Hitler who put Russians as Slavs into a sub-human category or Stalin their own homeland mass murderer being united. Many of the Ukrainians chose to join the Nazis for very obvious reasons. But it was all about terror versus hatred...NOT Patriotism...and absolutely not because of any skilled leadership by Stalin.

I believe that what George Mason said still rings true: To disarm the people [is] the best and most effective way to enslave them.

On this page is the video of the girl shooting the Uzi. The video cuts one frame before the instructor gets shot in the head, so don't worry about seeing him killed. Bring the video to full screen and notice how petite the girl is and notice how very skinny her arms are. After the single shot comes a stream of rounds immediately after the instructor reset the weapon to full auto. Watch as the gun leaps toward the left, right at the instructor. Remember grown adults, soldiers, are taught to fire only in bursts of 3 rounds to control gun recoil and maintain accuracy.

It's amazing how 3 allegedly grown adults scarred this kid for life.

I've also used that line in the past but truth be told, it's actually very misleading & once again reeks typical american arrogance.

Josef Stalin & the Russians actually saved the world from Nazi dominance. We may all be speaking German if it weren't for 'Uncle Joe'.

They conveniently forget the 2.5-3 years they spent on the sidelines making money off both sides of the "War in Europe"... Too much Fox news in that country... rots your brain... Its too bad, most Yanks are actually genuinely nice people...

First I am all in favor of being able to own a gun ( with restrictions ). I have had this discussion recently with an anti-gun friend of mine ( before above incident ). His claim is that we ( Canadians ) have no need for guns and no one he knows needs one ( IMO.. BAHAHAHA ) Tell that to the girl that was just raped in her home or to the home invasion victims ( Too bad they never knew my friend then it would not have happened ). I have been brought up around guns most of my life ( Target shooting and the odd bird shooting ) and see no reason for gun bans, why should only the criminals be able to have guns. The case above in letting the 9 year old fire an uzi makes no sense to me, my opinion but WTF were they thinking. Condolences to the instructors family and feel real bad for the girl, she will be messed up for a long time.

research shows that a gun in the home makes you less safe. You are more likely to blow away your wife during an argument or shoot yourself in the face while cleaning it than you are to stop a home invasion... Or how about the dad who blew away his daughter when she was sneaking back into the house after having sneaked off to see her boyfriend. Thought she was a burglar... You guys watch too many Rambo movies.

Anyways, all this is irrelevant. I think we can all agree that letting a 9 year old fire an Uzi is particularly stupid

Like i said, Stalin did his fair share of atrocities too... I know. Maybe i am too much impress with what i saw in Call of Duty or movies like Ennemy at the Gates but when i see this i want to respect the soviet nations who stand up and fough against the nazis. When you see videos of the red army marching in packs its hard to not be impress by it...

With all of the anti-Americanism in this thread regarding gun shooting at the range, I was surprised to find that the rules do not seem that much different in Canada, or al least parts of it, with respect to kids

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...ng-guns-shouldn-t-have-an-age-limit-1.2749596

Proportionately the two countries have the same amount of regular nut jobs. Because the US is more populous there are more nut jobs and therefore a higher likelihood for incidents involving nut jobs.

I think in the US southwest there are historical and cultural reasons for gun ownership that go beyond the 2nd amendment and beyond anything that anyone has discussed in this thread. With a few exceptions I do not think we have too many scholars of US history posting in this thread, so that is kind of to be expected.

To those who seem to think that the US has a monopoly on archaic thinking in their laws and policies, one need only listen to a speech or two of Canadian Minister of Justice Peter MacKay to laugh that notion under the table.

What...did your hero Stalin kill 70 million? How many million did your hero kill????? He made Hitler seem like the Junior Varsity. But I guess your right...I would rather be systematically killed by the Soviets than the Nazis....LOL!

I have a gun in my home.. Why don't you try breaking in Kasey? Then we will see who is less safe. Fuck your research...pools, alcohol, cars, escorts, flying....all the good things n life are less safe. Let's take them all away in the name of safety.

That is not a valid comparison. Compare Kasey's safety sitting in his own home with your safety sitting in your own home.

Fuck your research
In other words, keep facts out of the debate?

I prefer eating an apple to sticking a needle in my arm and injecting heroin. Good things are not necessarily less safe.

Why not keep a wild adult tiger in your house? It will attack an intruder even faster than you can get your guns (which presumably are locked up).

Facts ( statistics ) can be manipulated. A anti-gun friend of mine showed me a statistic of how guns in the house killed more people through murder & suicide that self defence, my response was . So the person who committed suicide or murder would have given up if there was no gun in the house. Currently I have no guns in the house due to where I live and stopped target shooting, if for some reason I thought I may need one ( moved to area with known home invasions, high crime rate etc ) I should be able to get one.

Fuck your research? lol... who needs facts... "I say I'm safer with a gun therefore I am..." ok.... good for you.

knock yourself out. own as many guns as you want. start blasting away as soon as anything makes you piddle in your pants... hopefully your wife or kids or neighbours won't be in the way of a stray.

Let's take them all away in the name of safety.

Who is arguing that we should take all guns away? Did I say that? If so, where? Please point it out to me or please stop putting words in my mouth. I guess when you don't have any facts on your side its easier to argue against strawmen of you own creation.

Its really quite simple... A gun in the house increases your chance of being dead... period... full stop... murder, suicide, accident, whatever. It doesn't matter. Put another way, people without a gun in the home have less chance of being dead. I don't get why this is so difficult to understand or accept. It seems like a pretty self evident truth.

Again, who is saying that you shouldn't be able to get one? Certainly not me. I love Darwinism. Its just a shame about the collateral damage, but whatever. Like I told hungry, own as many as you damn welll please.

So do knives. There are roughly as many homicides due to knives in Canada as gun related homicides. Knives need not to be stored in locked containers. Most gun related homicides are with handguns, and most handgun crime is related to gangs. A rifle or shotgun is least unlikely to be used in a homicide in the home. That means that, in the household, a knife is much more likely to be used in a homicide than a handgun or rifle. But nobody is out there advocating safe storage of knives or a knife registry.

One reason the US homicide rate is higher is because it is a more violent society. Homicide statistics also include the many police on suspect shootings that occur. That's because the US has a lot more violent people. Reducing gun ownership does not lower the overall homicide rate. If this were true, Jamaica would have the lowest gun related homicide rate in the world, since there is an almost total ban on private gun ownership there. The opposite is true: It has one of the highest gun related homicide rate in the world.

A law abiding licensed gun owner in Canada has his firearms stored and secured. They simply do not lie around the house waiting for a child to pick it up. Violent persons are denied a firearms license. If they already have one, it is revoked upon cause and guns seized. All it takes is a complaint. Domestic partners know this since they must give their consent to the RCMP upon the other spouse applying for a firearms license. The inference that banning guns reduces domestic homicides is a false one, in as much as knifes are much more likely to result in homicide in the house.

To me, there is no difference between the nanny state that tells me that I'm a morally bad person and should be sent to jail for paying for sex with another consenting adult behind closed doors , and the nanny state that deems the average citizen too stupid and irresponsible to be trusted with firearms.

Why is it that you think everyone who owns a gun is a fucking retard?
Edit: Automobiles & prescription drugs kill far more people than guns ( in North America ) maybe a ban on them is called for. Your claims on Darwinism is getting tiring.
