The answer would depend on what time period you consider. If you consider a period of less than twelve years, then the answer is yes. If you are looking for a longer time period, the answer is the 49ers. In any case, when considering dynasties, there are only two possible answers: Patriots and 49ers. All this according to Nate Silver.

Much as the modern era in baseball began with the inception of the American League in 1901, the modern era in football began with the merger. Lombardi's Packers dominated, for most of his era, a league of 14. Dominating a league of 30 is a horse of a different color. Personally, I have no opinion on this and am simply sharing the words and work of Nate Silver, a master statistician.

The Steelers have four (4) Super Bowl wins in six (6) years.

Read the article. Silver considers their performance in the years they did not win as well as the ones they did. Did they make the playoffs? How deep did they go? Using the parameters Silver set up, the Pats overall five and six year runs were better than that of the Steelers.

Again, I'm not defending this study, just sharing it. I will say that I (and a zillion other people) have great respect for the body of Silver's work.

Exactly and me being a honest football fan, I can admit Dallas had a nice run in the 90's (and were a dynasty) but nowhere near what GB and SF were, those 2 teams are at the top and for the patriots to come close they would need to win another SB (or 2 more likely) in the next few years.

New England Patriots... a distant 3rd!....

I'm not saying it either way, but there's one very important factor you have to consider when answering. The Patriots had to do everything within fairly strict salary cap boundaries and make much tougher choices on who to keep and who to trade or lose to free agency. None of the other teams had to face that in anywhere near the same degree . They could develop or attain great players and have a much easier time keeping them. You look at the Steelers teams of the 70s and their defense alone reads almost like a Hall of Fame Who's Who. The Patriots have also never had the gathering of real stars in abundance other teams have had. So at the very least it's an extremely fair question that is debatable. There's definitely no easy or clear answer to any fair thinking honest person like you Sharkman. Sure there are negatives for the Patriots, like the others, but the bonafide obsessed haters have no other mind than to feed their hate when the name Patriots comes up.

I was just listening to some stats with WEEI on the way home. Regarding the total failure of the deflate gate cheating farce, Tom Brady is 49 of 65 for about 460 yards since the ref certified footballs were put into Brady's hands in the second half of the AFC Championship game. Almost without a running game to speak of after the middle of the second quarter Brady still dissected a Seattle defense that had given up only 9 total points in the 4th quarter for THE ENTIRE YEAR, and he still came back from 10 points down to lead the team to 14 points...with NFL CERTIFIED FOOTBALLS. All the haters have a lot more to explain about that than they ever could justify from Brady.

The terrible and great news for the haters is Brady is staying in the game. So all the haters will have plenty of time to enjoy their vengeance obsession as they simultaneously agonize through it.

BTW - I don't know what will happen because of the size of his salary but I saw Darrelle Revis on a number of interviews this morning and he is enjoying the time of his life like he just won the Super Bowl single-handed. What a change in him from obnoxious loudmouth to stalwart highly respected inspirational team leader. Revis was absolutely glowing in the glory. One has to wonder if he will give up a good offer with a great team for big money with a bum team that has so far to go like the Jets publicly courting him.

The funny thing here is that I’ll bet not one of you read Nate Silver’s article. I was just posting a link to an interesting article. I’ll confess that I don’t pretend to know a whole lot about football (unlike Joe who does pretend to know a whole lot about football.)

A few points:

1. Agree with him or not, Silver has earned the right to be taken seriously. His record as a prognosticator is enviable. He’s made a very nice living projecting result in both sports and politics; you might say he’s the un-Joe.

2. I don’t know how Silver came up with the Patriots over six years. The Steelers won four and made the playoffs the other two years while the Pats won three and missed the playoffs once. I’d have to agree with Sharkman here.

3. Just looking at Silver’s chart, it’s pretty clear that the 49ers, by his analysis are the greatest dynasty of all time. They excel at 7-8 years and at any range over 12.

4. Did somebody really mention the Jerry Jones’ unlovable losers? Next I suppose his trained chimp is going to chime in with the Jets. LOL.

Even though i cheered for the Patriots during the Superbowl & they wound up winning me a lot of money, the answer to the question is NO.

They lost too many Superbowls over the past decade. Should losses be counted as good as a win, i give you the Buffalo Bills of the 90's, who went to the Superbowl on four consecutive occasions. FOUR CONSECUTIVE OCCASIONS!!!

I doubt we will ever see a team in ANY sport repeat this feat. Think about it: FOUR CONSECUTIVE SUPERBOWL APPEARANCES!!

However, the Patriots may be considered the dynasty of the past decade, i'll give 'em this. But of 'all time'??? Not a chance. Not even close.

The Patriots are the best dynasty of the last 15 years. No Doubt, not even close. They won 4 Super bowls, but all throughout that time they had to deal with free agency and a salary cap starting in 1994 like none of the others had to deal with. Because of this the team has had to face a revolving door of many of the best players while being able to sign few, Randy Moss and Wes Welker being some rare exceptions. Even Darrelle Revis played for only $1.5 guaranteed, though he did receive a $10 million signing bonus and $1/2 million for each game on the roster. All of the other dynastic teams had the luxury of keeping their players for relatively very cheap money.

Beside that the Patriots were one last drive freak helmet catch (2008 Super Bowl) one last drive dropped pass (2012 Super Bowl) and one last drive idiot taking his eyes off the ball and dropping it with no defender in front of him in the AFC Championship game (2007) from winning 3 more Super Bowls.

The comment involves so much ignorance of what goes on. I have to chuckle at the disconnect you guys have between reality and your hatred. It's been no different with NFL players either. Here's the great Jerry Rice blasting the Patriots for cheating just weeks after the great Jerry Rice admitted his own CHEATING by using stickum his whole career. That puts a taint on him and his major beneficiary Joe Montana who was throwing the ball to Rice. Then there's the report that many of the 49ers were using stickum and wadding their uniforms on Vaseline to escape tackles...which is hilarious aside from being so dirty. You want to say the Patriots did something, well open your eyes. Every team is pulling whatever crap they can think of to get away with for having an edge. Aaron Rogers over-inflates, multiple teams pump in fake crowd noise, the Jets and Giants may have gone through all the trouble of opening and closing gates for wind advantage. :lol:

That's all besides the one key point your missing at this moment which is no one knows who deflated the football, just one of them in reality, the one the Colts player handled. To say there's been any proof the Patriots did anything so far in this case is a cheap haters need to be spiteful and makes excuses for their own teams FAILURES.
