Hmmm, actually this phone goes for around 100$ and that is for a BRAND NEW phone.

If you look here you see some for around 80-88$ which are spanking new and come with acessories and are also UNLOCKED. If you bought the phone at Bell then the phone is locked, and since Bell is CDMA the guy buying it has to be with Bell or Telus ( CDMA network).

Funny, 540$ the Iphone and Nokia n95 and be bought for around that, not to mention the blackberry 8830 which is spanking new can also be bought for less then that.

Just a little warning for anyone who might not be knowledgeble in this domain, stick with Ebay

Now I bought the new BBerry Pearl ( locked for Bell ) coz the coverage is one of the best for my working area


Do you know if my old 7130 can be unlocked?

I dont think Such low prices can be available in MTL...if yes tell me where

BTW..I asked my mobility reseller if I could use and unlocked BB pearl on Bell network...He answered... no...


Advice would be apreciated coz I am really green for cell phone technilogy

Bell and Telus (both CDMA in Canada) will not activate any phone on their network if it isn't originally from their own company... meaning if you buy a phone from Telus and manage to get it unlocked and want to use this same phone in Bell, Bell won't allow it (and vice versa).

This is why many people prefer GSM. Unless you are a new customer, you never have to contact the service carrier to activate a new phone. You basically remove your SIM from your old phone and place it in your new (unlocked) phone.

No, to my knowledge both CDMA and GSM phones can be unlocked. The only thing is that the benefits of unlocking a CDMA phone aren't as worthwhile as with a GSM phone since you are always relying on the CDMA carrier that you choose whether they will activate another carrier's CDMA phone on their network. In Canada, none of the CDMA providers (Bell & Telus) will activate a competitor's phone on their network even if they have the exact same phone. For example, both Bell and Telus have the Treo 600 models when it first came out but they won't activate any Treo 600 onto their network. They will only activate their own Treo 600 on their network.

I'm not familiar with the 7310 but I'm sure that it can be unlocked. However, if it is a CDMA phone/device, unlocking it is generally a waste of money (at least in Canada)... and having/buying an unlocked CDMA phone is in my opinion a waste of money in Canada. An unlocked GSM phone on the other hand is not a waste of money.

A GSM phone is a GSM phone and a CDMA phone is a CDMA phone. Some companies make the same model phone for both GSM and CDMA (Treo 600, Treo 650, etc.) but they are still different phones and use different technolgies. This is why an unlocked Iphone will work with Fido or Rogers but not work with Bell or Telus... because the Iphone is a GSM phone/device and Bell and Telus both are CDMA. GSM phones use SIM cards which can easily be removed/swapped/replaced by the user. CDMA phones don't.

In Canada if you get a free BB you will be attached with a 3 years contract with the same service provider...( this expression sounds familiar to me )

I shopped for a new BB Pearl with Rogers, Bell,and Tellus ...they are almost the same
Bell is bad on customer's service but coverage is the one tha fits the best for my work

may be in USA this could be possible ...

TELL ME WAS YOUR OFFER FROM USA OR CANADA ??

Sorry for the late answer, I check and read the merb usally once or twice a week. The offer is here in Canada and from Rogers, they just called and offered a FREE Blackberry and it's witten in my file, I can drop of any Roger affiliated and get one if "Yes you are right" If I renew my contract for 2 or 3 years, but I really don't mind since I use it for the Company and my # is over 13 years old, and I have one of those old contracts that as long as I keep, they can't take it away from me, which is billed by the second.

For those shopping for a Blackberry or a PDA, you have to consider a couple of things.

All service providers can offer the phone at a similar price, the difference is really with the data plans. Telus for example offers a 15$ data plan which gives you unlimited e-mail, unlimited instant messaging and unlimited browsing. No other service provider can match that plan, atleast not yet. Rogers offers unlimited e-mail and messaging for the same price, but browsing is not included.

Another thing to consider is if you are a user of Windows Live Messenger, you cannot use the messenger with Rogers on a Blackberry since it is blocked. With Telus there is no problem with that feature.

I think overall as a blackberry user you are better off with Telus.
