National Anthems at sporting events have to go

The previous posts justify exactly what i've been saying all along to whomever wants to hear: "The National Anthems do not belong in sporting events, except maybe the Olympics or competitions pitting different countries against one another."

This goes for the NHL, NBA, NFL, pro boxing, auto racing, and all other sports where a National Anthem is sung prior to the event. The games are long enough already!

A lot of if's

Has Raycroft's bubble burst? Will Thornton finally start acting like a captain and stop taking these ridiculous penalties which are killing his team? Has Claude Julien finally come to his senses and will once again dress the league's best face-off man, Yanic Perreault? Will we once again see a shaky Theodore, or the one we saw last night? Will Ribeiro and Kovalev continue playing like men and leave the acting behind? Can the Bruins reclaim the momentum, which now the Habs possess?

This is turning out to be a great series. I'm hoping for a game 7 in Boston on Monday night, where anything can happen!

I believe it's over for the Bruins, anthems or nor.
The Bruins should seriously consider trading Joe Thornton, the guy is ruining the chances of the B's to mak eany progress!!!

...and I strongly suggest, support and recommenrd he be sent to a club operating in a foreing country, like the Habs. He would be a great assett for the Habs!
I believe I will go to the Church over the weekend (if I can find one as it has been so long since..) for that to happen!

I love national anthems at sporting events. I loved as a fan or a player; I take a lot of pride in the anthem and respect others. I was up in can-am games in Lake placid and we stood at the blue line across from the Canadian teams to pay tribute to each others country, It was great !The NHL should not let jackasses dictate league policy. As the wise hockey god Steve Hanson once said: “I'm listening to the f#cking song”

The Hanson Brothers.....the Three Wise Men of Hockey!

'Slapshot', great movie!

Trivia question: "On whom was the role of Reggie Dunlop (Paul Newman) based on?"

I used to think so too. However, considering all the stupid roughing penalties Thornton has been caught doing, i'm not so sure anymore. He certainly doesn't look injured if you look at how physical he's been in this series. More and more, this guy is starting to remind us of Eric Lindros....a tremendous underachiever when it counts the most.

Raycroft is back down to earth. In my 40 something yrs of being an avid hockey fan there have been only 2 rookie goalies who have taken their teams all the way to win a championship.
Trivia : Who are they, in the past 40 yrs. ?.

How about Ken Dryden and Patrick Roy?

Sweet to see nos glorieux take it the "big bad Bruins" all night! Boston looks scared and confused, look for the Habs to seal the deal Monday night! If it wasn't for the Kovalev gaffe, this series would already be over! Bring on Tampa Bay!

GO HABS GO !!!

Good ole fashion hockey! The Bruins vs. Candiens in game 7 for all the marbles! It’s not a good B’s Habs series with the drama and this series is boring by no means! Hey may the best team win! I just hope it’s the Bruins if not then so bee it and good luck in the next round!

I totally disagree with you. There is no way to know for certain that Mtl would have won the game anyway 'without' the Kovy incident. The way Raycroft was playing that night, it's very difficult to imagine Mtl winning it. The B's also had momentum on their side once the overtime started.

The 'real' gaffe occurred when Mlt was leading by a goal with less than a minute left to go. The coach had the wrong players on the ice, and Rivet also did a tremendous boo-boo which led to the goal.

There is also no guarantee that Mtl would have won the next game(s) if they would have one game 4. Both teams would have had different personnel and different strategies for the next games. So many other factors involved....

SL:

Regarding the hit on Thornton by Kommy, anyone getting hit by that elbow would have got hurt. Getting hit by an elbow or shoulder these days is as worse as getting hit by a stick, considering the equipment they now wear looks almost like what Robocop used to ear.

I also agree regarding your statement to GoHabsGo on Kovy. There is no way that Mtl would still be in this series if it wasn't for Kovy. It's certainly not because of Theo, who obviously is not focused like he usually is and is getting distracted by what has happened to his family of criminals and the sex charges against his father-in-law, well-known tv producer Guy Cloutier.

I agree regarding goaltending. However, Theo still let in a bad goal yesterday (first goal). I haven't seen him yet play like he can, or anything close to how he played 2 years ago.

Yes, Raycroft's bubble seems to have burst. However, there is still one game to play. He could once again stone them. I hope not.

What's the word on Q? Is he out for the next game also?

I also watch the broadcasts on CBC instead of RC or RDS. I have trouble getting used to the announcers on RC as compared to the english channel.

Listening to some Habs' games on ESPN Classic Canada, i still find the great Danny Gallivan's voice similar to a symphony. Man, was he great!

I also cannot stand Danielle Sauvageau.....give me Don Cherry or Kelly Hrudey anytime!
