Raskin Chokes Up Talking About His, His Family's Experiences During Capital Riots:
Raskin Invokes the famous Abraham Lincoln Lyceum Speech:

The subject of Lincoln's speech was citizenship in a constitutional republic and threats to U.S. institutions. In the speech, Lincoln discussed in glowing terms the political system established by the founding fathers, but warned of a destructive force from within. He asked his listeners:

Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant to step the ocean and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest, with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio or make a track on the Blue Ridge in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer. If it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us; it cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide.
Lincoln indirectly blamed slavery for lawlessness in the United States. In this context he warned that:

whenever the vicious portion of [our] population shall be permitted to gather in bands of hundreds and thousands, and burn churches, ravage and rob provision stores, throw printing-presses into rivers, shoot editors, and hang and burn obnoxious persons at pleasure and with impunity, depend upon it, this government cannot last. By such things the feelings of the best citizens will become more or less alienated from it, and thus it will be left without friends, or with too few, and those few too weak to make their friendship effectual.
Lincoln then warned that a tyrant could overtake the U.S. political system from within. He said:

It is to deny what the history of the world tells us is true, to suppose that men of ambition and talents will not continue to spring up amongst us. And when they do, they will as naturally seek the gratification of their ruling passion as others have done before them. The question then is, can that gratification be found in supporting and maintaining an edifice that has been erected by others? Most certainly it cannot. Many great and good men, sufficiently qualified for any task they should undertake, may ever be found whose ambition would aspire to nothing beyond a seat in Congress, a gubernatorial or a presidential chair; but such belong not to the family of the lion or the tribe of the eagle. What! think you these places would satisfy an Alexander, a Caesar, or a Napoleon? Never! Towering genius disdains a beaten path. It seeks regions hitherto unexplored. It sees no distinction in adding story to story upon the monuments of fame erected to the memory of others. It denies that it is glory enough to serve under any chief. It scorns to tread in the footsteps of any predecessor, however illustrious. It thirsts and burns for distinction; and if possible, it will have it, whether at the expense of emancipating slaves or enslaving freemen. Is it unreasonable, then, to expect that some man possessed of the loftiest genius, coupled with ambition sufficient to push it to its utmost stretch, will at some time spring up among us? And when such a one does, it will require the people to be united with each other, attached to the government and laws, and generally intelligent, to successfully frustrate his designs. Distinction will be his paramount object, and although he would as willingly, perhaps more so, acquire it by doing good as harm, yet, that opportunity being past, and nothing left to be done in the way of building up, he would set boldly to the task of pulling down.
To prevent this, Lincoln concluded that there was a need to cultivate a "political religion" that emphasizes "reverence for the laws" and puts reliance on "reason—cold, calculating, unimpassioned reason."

During the speech, Lincoln referenced two murders committed by pro-slavery mobs. The first was the burning of Francis McIntosh, a freedman who killed a constable, and was subsequently lynched by a mob in St. Louis in 1836. Lincoln also referenced the death of Elijah Parish Lovejoy, a newspaper editor and abolitionist, who was murdered three months earlier by a pro-slavery mob in nearby Alton, Illinois.

In addition to the four deaths among those attending the protest-turned-riot, as many as 60 Capitol Police officers were injured during the attack, according to the lawmaker in charge of appropriating funds for the agency. Many were hit in the head with metal pipes, said Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), and 15 have been hospitalized, with one in critical condition.

You haven't thought about the collateral issues.

never in history has a president fed people an alternate reality of wining an election in which he got his ass rocked, and then sent a crowd to try and prevent its certification, telling them “I’ll be right there with you”, lol

Congressman Neguse was getting beat up on Face the Nation this morning about not moving forward with witnesses. Which I thought was odd because usually CBS would give him the softest of softball questions:

The Democrats are in Disarray is always the default mode for the Mainstream Media.
Especially when they denied the media more spectacle. (Witnesses! Controversy! Sexy! We don't need to report or do journalism, just play clips!)

The press has to get used to drumming up bullshit scandals and "narrative" about how "The Dems fucked up". They'll be back on it in no time.

Yes, the Capital Hill riots were Trumps fault as the Dems claim.

Yup..
I remember when feisty senior Dem Rep. Maxine Waters stated that all Republicans and known Trump supporters should be harrassed in public.
Sure sounded like an incitement to intimidate, threaten and even assault people.
Did she ever go to jail for that?
Lemme think...

Oh no she didn't!

Guess when you are a batty old Democratic Congresswoman you are allowed to say wacky stuff like that!

The NY Times sort of admitted that, contrary to many articles published in the Times and elsewhere, Capitol Police Officer Sicknick was not killed by a fire extinguisher that hit him in the head. Nothing hit him in the head. He probably died from a stroke that was unrelated to the riot, something that other news sites reported as soon as the day after the riot. It took more than one month for NYT editors to admit the truth.

A few days ago, the New York Times quietly “updated” its report, published over a month earlier, asserting that Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick had been killed by being struck with a fire extinguisher during the January 6 riot.

According to the update, “[n]ew information has emerged regarding the death of the Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick that questions the initial cause of his death provided by officials close to the Capitol Police.” As I detailed in a column last week, what the Times calls “new information” actually began emerging the same day the paper filed its January 8 report.

That report was (and still is) entitled, “Capitol Police Officer Dies from Injuries in Pro-Trump Rampage.” It was not the only such Times report from that day. There was another, entitled, “He Dreamed of Being a Police Officer, Then Was Killed by a Pro-Trump Mob,” in which the Times asserted:

On Wednesday, pro-Trump supporters attacked that citadel of democracy [i.e., the Capitol], overpowered Mr. Sicknick, 42, and struck him in the head with a fire extinguisher, according to two law enforcement officials. With a bloody gash in his head, Mr. Sicknick was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. He died on Thursday evening.

Yet, as early as the morning of January 8, KHOU in Houston reported that Sicknick had died from a stroke. The KHOU story made no mention of the officer’s being struck by a fire extinguisher. It did claim, however, that the stroke occurred “at the Capitol during riots,” and a caption under the officer’s photograph stated that he died “of injuries sustained during the riot at the Capitol.” The headline of the KHOU story attributes the conclusion that a stroke was the cause of death to the head of the Capitol Police union, Gus Papathanasiou. The body of the story identified Papathanasiou as its source for what turned out to be the erroneous report that Sicknick had passed away during the day on Thursday (the day after the riot); in fact, he was still on life-support at the time, and was pronounced dead late Thursday night...

Impeachment hearings are over, the president has gone to Florida, but the government still has national guard troops in DC.

the president has gone to Florida,
You mean the former president. He can still call on his monkey squad to attack congress or any part of Washington no matter where he lives.
In another development the second richest guy in the world is trying to set up Donald and his friend Vlad the poisoner on a private and secretive chat link so that they can discuss how to screw the US even harder, while Kanye raps in the background.

First, in english it's perfectly fine to refer to a former president as president. Second, the national guard isn't supposed to be there for something that's not going to happen. If there's a threat or a national disaster they are activated. These people have families and shouldn't be used as a power play by big brother.

The corrupt Republicans are engaged in so much infighting that it's hilarious to watch them destroy each other. Trump versus Mitch. Moderates versus right-wing wack jobs like Greene, Boebert, etc. Reasonable, honest Repubs (yeah, there aren't many but there are some) getting censured for being honest. Many Repubs looking to start a third major American party because they realize their own Republican party has turned to shit and is so deeply divided it can never recover. All because of Trump...and largely because of his actions since November 3 in trying to steal the election and in inciting the treasonous attack. Even many of the morons who attacked the Capitol while carrying their Trump signs have finally realized that they got screwed by the lying conman. Great to see all these idiots turning against each other. And oh yeah: Rudy's in big trouble, Sidney Powell's in big trouble, the fake right-wing "news" (ha ha) stations and fake right-wing "journalists" (ha ha) are in trouble and facing huge lawsuits. All done in by their own stupidity and dishonesty. Karma!

It is encouraging to read a post by someone that have all his mental faculties.
Not someone who has been brainwashed by a crazy guru.
