Regret over Guilty Pleas:

STFU, Shaman. While we really don't have the time, or should incur the judicial costs, for these attention-craving crazies, let's give this asshole what he wants - revoke his guilty plea and put him on trial. And, once convicted, give him the maximum sentence for each offense and have the sentences run consecutively.

Excessive sentences diminish effect of the just punishment as have connotation of revenge

Harsh by Canadian standards....yes. In Russia, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, NK and some other countries....they would get the death sentence or just vanish.
It tells you something that for the justification of the sentence you need to mention punishment in countries where fare and independent judiciary does not exist. What about Europe, say Netherlands, Germany, France?

Sentencing in the States is generally harsher than in liberal Europe. getting locked up in Germany is like checking into a one star hotel.
The charges these clowns faced, and were convicted of, were serious......attacking the police and trying to overthrow the government. 100 years ago they would have faced a firing squad.

In court these two faced bastards are pleading for mercy....even shedding tears.
Typically "tough" far-right bastards who turn out to be sniveling cowards and crybabies when their criminal bullying and treasonous acts are justly punished. If the main instigator of this treasonous insurrection ever gets the sentence he deserves we'll see even more tears than we saw from these gutless pussies.

If Trump gets elected I wonder if he will commute the sentence of the Jan 6 people. He pardoned an unusually low number of people at the end of his term - hard to say if it is because he is a good guy or just disorganized.

If he does, it would not be a first, Obama freed people convicted of treason (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/17/us/obama-commutes-sentence-of-faln-member-oscar-lopez-rivera.html) and people *associated* with a bomb in the US capitol (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-years-after-the-weather-underground-bombing/).

Am sure the press will be fair and balanced in treating these pardons if they happen :)

I think the Jan 6 riots were sad, a real black eye on democracy.

But you can't say 5 deaths with a straight face. From wikipedia:

"Five people died either shortly before, during, or following the event: one was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes."

Counting deaths before the incident? Counting the protestor shot by police? Drug overdose? Others who died of natural causes? WTF...

Of course Trump would pardon himself and his associates. Biden will also likely pardon his son.

I try not to be confused by what I wish for when I look at politics. Do I think Trump is great? No. Was he as bad as some people say? No. Do I think he has a chance to beat Biden? Yes. Biden is falling apart in front of us and might not even be there in 15 months.

If you predicted Hillary would beat Trump then you are like me and need now to be more careful now :)
