I just got back from a receiving a wicked massage.
I heard people at MERB had complaints about the new software.
Is that right ?

It's a mess Fred. It's your board but not sure why you are fixing something that is not broken. I don't have PMs, can't see Avatars, and the list of problems is too long for me to write about. See the thread already started by some other posters.

Everything works fine for me. No problem with PMs or seeing avatars. It's gonna take a bit of time to get used to it but I like it a lot better than the old version so far. I really don't see where the problems are. Maybe people having problems should try clearing their cookies and temporary internet files to see if it makes any difference.

Also, the date and time of each reply is missing. Let me clear out a few more cookies and temp files.

Not on my systems. I've tested on my laptop and main systems which run Win 7 and have no problems and I've also tested on an old XP system and things work perfectly fine. Maybe it's something to do with your display settings in your user control panel but it all works fine on my systems.

Techman,

The PMs previously automatically appeared and you clicked on one button to retrieve them. Now you must click on "private messages", then click the specific PM to retrieve. Two clicks rather than one is progress? I call it regression. We only have 24 hours in a day and they cannot be used up with unnecessaly clicks to get information.

EB, I have my settings configured so that I get a pop-up notification on my screen as soon as I get a pm. All I have to do is click on it and my pm will open immediately. It works exactly the same as it did before. If you click on the 'notifications' button at the top of the page, just to the right of your handle, it'll bring you right to your inbox with one click. Besides...doesn't anyone use the tabs in their browser to keep more than one page at a time open? I always have my inbox open in a separate tab. I even open threads in new tabs instead of always navigating back and forth in the same tab.

Previously, when I clicked on my MERB bookmark the page would come up and I would automatically see my PM box and whether there were PMs or not. Now, I must click another button before I can see the contents of my PM box. This is 2 clicks (new) vs 1 click on my bookmark (old). I should not have to fool around with anything. If this software was truly user friendly it would show me my PMs without me having to do anything more. Sorry Techman, but that is not progress at least in terms of user friendliness. I don't really have the time to go over all this technology and settings and whatnot. Technology is not my game.

Beav, why don`t you just bookmark the page that goes directly to your pm box...https://merb.cc/vbulletin//private.php

Otherwise I don`t see what your problem is. As soon as I log on, if I have any messages waiting I get an immediate pop-up in the middle of my screen telling me that I have a pm. This is exactly the way things were before. I guess I just don`t understand what your problem really is because on my end the only thing that`s changed is that now I have a `notification` box at the top of my screen instead of a box on the right with a link to private messages. And there`s a link directly to the pm function right in the toolbar on each screen. But I still get a pop-up on my screen whenever I get a pm.

But like I said, I just don`t get what all the fuss is about.

Where I belong.
I've come across one thing that I don't like and that's having to log in each time I visit even when I click on the "remember me" button. Hopefully that can be changed.
I haven't had that problem myself. I have just come across another problem, though. The Beav just agreed, in another thread, with something I posted. That never happened with the old software.

That's not a MERB thing, that's a Vista thing.

Mine keeps me logged in, but on some other random sites I have to log in each time. It's just the way Vista/IE work sometimes.

Try dumping your history/cookies/passwords and try again. Only problem is that you'll have to re-enter passwords for everything else...
