Dark Winds was just released onto Netflix and I watched season 1 this week, which was very good. It's just 6 episodes. It's about tribal police officers in the Navajo Nation who are working on solving several mysterious deaths on the reservation. Well acted and shot on location in Navajo Nation which spans corners of the states of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.

Dark Matter (2024)
I recently watched this new series on Apple+ and it’s excellent! It’s nine episodes & stars Joel Edgerton & Jennifer Connelly. It’s based on a 2016 sci-fi novel & Edgerton plays a Chicago physicist who’s warped into an alternate version of his life. For lovers of sci-fi series like The Twilight Zone & Black Mirror then you’ll love this one! It was quite popular & very well received by critics & Apple has announced it has been renewed for a second season.

I watched the first episode and stopped midway into the second episode (boring). But if you say it gets better, maybe I'll give it another shot.

I absolutely loved the second season of The White Lotus! I’ve actually seen it several times! I think i saw myself in several of the characters at different stages in my life which is why i loved it so much! This was likely my favorite tv series of the year! I can’t wait for the next season. Will it be filmed in Greece?

The next season is in Thailand I think! I liked the 1st season better but everyone seems to have preferred the 2nd season :)

You’re quite correct. I now remember reading that the next season will be filmed in Thailand. As for season 1 the thing I really liked the most about it is that this is where i discovered Sidney Sweeney, whose boobs…i mean work…i’m a big fan of. I think she was nothing short of great in the movie ‘Reality’. Anyways i think the first season may grow on me over time omce i’ve seen it again. I’ve already forgot pretty much everything about it (other than Sidney) and the next time i see it it’ll probably feel like i’ve seen it for the first time & i’ll probably appreciate it even more. Just like “Murder on the Orient Express” which i’ve just finished watching for the second time. This is such a great & very well made movie & i’ve missed so many key parts & clues the first time i saw it in a movie theater a few years ago. Maybe the fact i already know the twist at the end made it easier for me to notice things i hadn’t noticed previously. I’m also currently reading the graphic novel of the story & it’s ,ade me aware of clues i hadn’t noticed before.

Both on Netflix. The travelers, decent show about time travelers sent back in time to stop catastrophes ( 3 seasons ) and Animal Kingdom ( nothing to do with wildlife ) about a criminal family ( 6 seasons )

The Perfect Couple (2024)
Six-part tv series on Netfix which stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning & Eve Newson. This murder/mystery/drama/comedy is absolutely brilliant & easy to binge on. The cast is brilliant & perfectly casted. I absolutely love it & can’t wait to watch the final episode later today to find out whodunnit! The series reminded me a bit of The White Lotus. If you like well-made, entertaining murder-mysteries than this miniseries is for you!

p.s. The main character is played by Bono’s daughter. Until now i had never heard of her but i must admit that I’m extremely impressed by her acting skills.

Update: Just finished watching the finale & absolutely loved it! I hope they decide to make a second season!

I don't know if anyone even noticed, but the first two episodes of season 2 of The Old Man dropped last week, and 2 more episodes release Thursday September 19. If you liked season 1, you will like season 2. The beginning of season 2 pits FBI and CIA against the Taliban and Taliban spies in Afghanistan, as the hunt is on for a kidnapped FBI agent. What drives the show is the performances of Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow, who have a lot of scenes together early in season 2. Also, although she has a small role, I am impressed by the beauty of Sara Seyed, who is an Iranian international law/civil rights attorney turned actress. She plays one of the locals.

Never watched ‘The Old Man’ but if it’s any good i’ll give it a look. Another series i plan on watching is ‘Shogun’. Heard great things about it.

However the second season of ‘Tulsa King’ just dropped on Paramount+ so the other series may have to wait since i absolutely loved the first season!

I watched this miniseries based on Doc's review and I concur with his assessment- it's brilliant. However Doc did not mention Nicole Kidman, whom I thought was phenomenal in her role as Greer Winbury. The entire ensemble cast was great, but this was as good a performance as Nicole Kidman has delivered. Liev Schreiber is also very good as her philandering husband, as is Eve Newson, whose wedding is hijacked by the murder and subsequent murder investigation.

Although it somewhat falls into the Knives Out/Glass Onion genre, it is more of a drama than a dark comedy as were those films.

One thing that puzzled me is that one of the characters has to go into substance abuse rehab, and the series really shits on New Era, which is a real life rehab facility in New Haven, CT. Although the character ultimately says he will go there for his rehab, it's not before a couple of other characters really shit on New Era, calling it a "shithole" staffed by "bad people." Unless the people who produced this show have some connection to New Era, I could not figure out why they would shit on a real life rehab facility rather than just make one up. Other than that weirdness, this series is well worth watching and is highly entertaining and well acted.

Actually i did mention Nicole Kidman & i agree that she’s also great in the series. Glad you enjoyed it. I think i mentioned it already but Eve Newson also happens to be one of U2 lead singer Bono’s daughters. As for Kidman’s performance it is great, like most of her other performances. Not sure i’d say it’s her best. I thought she was absolutely fantastic in the great miniseries “Big Little Lies”. She’s slowly becoming an iconic actress in the same mold as the great Merryl Streep.

Yeah I missed that. I should have mentioned that Dakota Fanning's sarcastic Abby character is also well done by her. Also very good was the actress who played the Massachusetts State Cop. The entire cast of that show was stellar.

I watched episode 3 of season 2 over the weekend and it was probably the best episode in the series to date. What I would like to know is, who are these shadowy foreign mercenaries that the FBI/CIA are contracting with for air support when things get hairy on the ground????? It's really cool to know that when your agents on the ground are being fucked with by either the Taliban, Taliban spies or other terrorists, you can make a phone call and get the plane or helicopter with the guys on board shooting RPGs. But who are these guys???? Where does the CIA or FBI find them? Does someone go into the FBI or CIA and leave flyers on a message board? And what is their salary and benefits? Do they get life insurance?

Without spoiling anything, the John Lithgow character in this show seems very adept at calling in the cavalry when needed and also keeping them on standby when needed.

I am also imagining these mercenary contractor types are bored ex special ops from the USA, Canada or UK. Or do they recruit, for a show like The Old Man, fit older men who are bored with their retirement and maybe have some military background that could be put to use?

I know someone who is an ex Vietnam veteran army corp of engineers. He told me shortly after his Vietnam service ended in the 1960s, through an army buddy, he met some guys recruiting ex military personnel (who recently left military service in Vietnam) to stage an armed coup in Haiti on Papa Doc. He listened but said no as he thought it was a 100% suicide mission. They were offered money I think $50,000 or something like that.
