Has anybody heard when we can update our NEXUS cards? Obviously I have no use for it now, but I still want to renew it so when the border does open I can use the NEXUS lanes. Only thing I’ve read was that the NEXUS reinrollment centers will be closed until at least February 8th. My card doesn’t expire for a little less than a year so Im not in panic mode to renew it yet, but Id like to get it done and out of the way.

^^^^update to my previous post. Looks like the majority of people that are renewing their NEXUS cards do not have to do the in person interviews. If nothing has drastically changed with your profile it’s simply mailed to you without an interview.

Even if an interview is required you have 24 months from conditional approval to complete the interview provided you start the renew prior to expiration.

It’s been more than a year since I was in Montreal. I usually head up 5-6 times a year.

I applied for renewal six months before it expired in Jan 2020. In March 2020 was conditional approval but was in the unlucky group that has to re-do the interview. I knew it was extended for a year bad glad to hear it extended two years. Hope by then can get an interview time.

Update. My renewal took about a week total from paying for the renewal to receiving the card in my mailbox. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have to redo the interview.

Clarification/correction. My understanding is if you start the renew prior to expiration, your Trusted Traveler benefits will be extended 12 months past expiration. The 24 month from conditional review is the lifespan of the renewal application for you to complete the interview.

Depending on when you reached conditional approval status and appointment availability, your benefits could still expire before you get final approval.

It would be appreciated if you keep this thread updated on whether your TT benefit expired or not (eg do you get PreCheck) since it is past Jan 2021.

Thanks for your clarification. March 20, 2020, date of the letter that says I am invited to have an interview, sent almost a year after I applied early to renew I guess means my TT/ Nexus has expired even though I applied six months before the expiry date! I believe PreCheck is separate that I am still cleared for but until I travel again will not know for sure :( The March 2020 letter was just before the COVID travel restrictions and last I looked no interview appts were open in Canada. I did find one in the US in Washington near the border that had an opening in July 2021.

I should check again, but kind of pointless at this point since am not going to travel until I can get a vaccine etc.

I got an email from the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) mentioning an app that will be required to travel into Canada. It's called the ArriveCan app. I'm guessing this isn't going to be used until the border is open. Also, I'm hoping that this may be the beginning of the process to opening up the border between the US and Canada when both countries have better vaccination/covid numbers.

Waiting on Canada to up their numbers. Doesn't look like it will happen by summer as they are recommending 2nd dose to be administered 4 months after 1st dose instead of clinical trials of 21/28 days due to supply constraints.

Things are looking a lot better in the states. NY positivity rate is less that 1.5% with almost half of the people in NY having at least one dose of the COVID vaccine. The US has over 31.5% people fully vaccinated and 44% have gotten at least one dose. By the end of this month it will only get better. Hoping for a July opening and ordering the Viagra now.

I’m confused. I think the vaccination rate you should be monitoring is Canada. Not US.

One of the biggest Nexus (and GE which merged with my Nexus after my GE expired) perks for me is to be able to go through security checkpoints in the US airports without the need to take out my laptop, remove my shoes, belt for my les pantalons, and jacket. The airport security checkpoints in the US are the slowest in my experience.

That's called TSA Precheck

Not the case right now. I have been flying in the US a bit and even the precheck lines are telling me to take off my shoes, laptop, jacket. Not back to normal yet.

Good point. I enrolled in TSA separately but then was told that my Nexus and GE cards allow me the same privileges as TSA. Yep, not back to normal yet. Hmm. Maybe I should renew my TSA just to make sure I can get through security when I get to the airport "late".
