I am surprised he is even still in the league. He shared goaltending duties for the Leafs with Jonathan Bernier from around 2013-2015. Maybe Montreal can pick up Bernier instead?
He’s one of those bible thumping freaks so maybe that’s the reason for his longevity. He’s been with many teams around the league like Florida, Carolina, Detroit, San Jose & so on. One night at a game I met his wife April when he played for the Leafs. She was a hottie at the time. Very nice girl but another bible-thumper like her husband.

McDavid reached 1000 points in 659 games, good for 4th best in NHL history.

Gretzky did it in 424 games
Lemieux needed 513
Bossy 656

It says a lot about how Gretzky was in a class of his own.

Same story: Habs lose again. This time by a score of 3-0. For the second time in their last three games they only had two shots in a period. Tonight it happened in the first period. Hard to win games when you have only two shots in a period & fail to score any goals. This is going to be a very long season if the Habs don’t make any trades to help the team. Especially if they don’t acquire a veteran backup goalie to help Monty. As for the chronic lack of scoring Raphael Harvey- Pinard is not the answer.

Hard to believe Philly came back to beat the Sens in a game greatly dominated by Ottawa. Ullmark having a terrible year so far. Terrible goal he let in in OT. Ottawa gave him a shitload of money. I wonder if they didn’t grossly overpay another goalie. Is Ottawa the place good goalie careers go to die or is it where average goalies go to get rich?

In other news Boston got beat pretty bad again. This is a team that looks average & soft. Not sure Montgomery lasts the season. Hearing he hasn’t yet been re-signed because someone told current associate coach & long-time Bruins assistant Joe Sacco to stay patient & that Montgomery’s job is his if they end up either firing him or not re-signing him. Who knows maybe GM Steve Kasper may be the one getting the ax instead.

And…Bolts beat the Peg!

They won’t, not this year. Hugues has been very clear about it this week. It’s not the right time to do it.
Next year he’ll say the same thing. To be honest so far Hughes hasn’t shown me anything. He hasn’t shown me that he’s up to the job. Since he’s been on the job his teams have regressed. I doubt the fans will put up with the team finishing near the basement for ten years. The danger of playing losing hockey year after year is that players get used to losing. The bigger danger is losing the fan base. For example i know people in Buffalo who were once huge Sabres fans but losing year after year has led to them stopping to watch hockey for good. They just don’t care anymore & they couldn’t even name a single Sabres player playing today. They totally tuned out & found other things to do. When the building starts emptying out in Montreal heads are going to start rolling. If this happens don’t be surprised if the team ends up being put to sale. Owning & running a team is quite a bit of fun but not when you lose year after year & you have the fans & media asking for your head.

Only 2 teams in the NHL have given up 70 goals, Montreal and Pittsburgh. The Habs remain tied for last in the NHL in points and dead last in goal differential after their shutout loss last night. Something has to be done about the goal prevention. The Nylander goal in which he skated through the entire team, using them as pylons, highlighted what has become a severe problem.

I never seen this happening my entire life. Lol Some 10 years ago we thought it was happening but in the end it was just a change of guard for the season ticket buyers. The old traditional fans were fading out but a new generation of kids with lots of money to burn jumped in.

For this reason the Bell center created in 2020, a new high luxury season ticket bracket. Offering packages of 4 seats, starting at $76,000($19,000 per seat), price includes open bar and food. And yeah, you guessed it, all sold out, year after year. There’s a reason why The club is still among the most expensive in the league.

Et encore là, les erreurs de Hutson ne sont rien comparé à celles de Matheson!

The Habs are actually at the bottom or next to the bottom in most categories. This is really shameful. But i have a feeling that management won’t budge unless thousands of fans start avoiding the Bell Centre. Thousands of fans not spending a lot of money on overpriced beer & overpriced crappy junk food will hurt the bottom line & that’s when ownership will step in & start demanding results.

I agree that it has never happened before (in a non-covid year) but i’ve been following the habs for half a century & i don’t remember them being so bad for so long. To be honest rebuild or not i never imagined this ever happening to this great franchise. I never imagined ownership accepting mediocrity for this long. I remember tough years in the early 80’s but never this bad or this long with no rainbow in sight. I’m not sure how long management can continue to hide behind the rebuilding excuse & bullshit fans into believing that remaining patient & the sacrifice will be all worth it a few years from now when they’ll win the Cup! I mean get real, people! The habs haven’t won a Cup in over thirty years, if you don’t count the covid years they would have missed the playoffs for about 7 seasons, there is now a hard salary cap to deal with & there are now 32 teams, not 6! How long will the die-hard fans continue to accept Geoff Molson/Gorton-Hughes bullshit? Go ask Sabres & Sens fans what they really think about their teams rebuilding! Year after year of mediocrity has led to many die-hards to get off the bandwagon for good!

You’ve said it, 32 teams aiming for the ultimate trophy. At the end of every season there’s only one winner. Even with the best team there is no guarantee of reaching that goal. We’ve seen it so often that all of a sudden, the underdogs start to win and gain momentum round after round. Hockey is certainly the most unpredictable sport ever.

From 2019 Wikipedia St-Louis Blues won the cup when being 32nd in January :

Season summary

The Blues started the season sluggish, and head coach Mike Yeo was fired on November 19 with the team's record at 7–9–3.[5] Craig Berube, who had served as assistant coach with the Blues since 2017, was named the interim head coach.[5] St. Louis began the 2019 calendar year with the worst record in the league; 15–18–4 and 34 points recorded.[6] Soon after, rookie goaltender Jordan Binningtonjoined the team. On January 7, he won his first game in a shutout and took over as the team's starting goaltender. The Blues then went on a franchise-record 11-game winning streak and had a 30–10–5 run to finish the season. They clinched a playoff spot on March 29, 2019.[7][8]

So either Marty gets fired in 4 days, or he gets a great Assistant Coach soon... and we get back Mailloux, Roy from the AHL and maybe one goalie to replace Primeau... Patrick Laine comes back... well we still have chances for a 25th cup! ;-) ...

But I agree... All this needs to start with Hutson on 1st PP shift...!

In hockey the key to winning the Stanley Cup is to gain momentum, get hot at the right time, keep injuries to a minimum, get good goaltending, have the right matchups & have quite a bit of luck. And do not win the President’s Cup. It’s very rare that the best team during the regular season wins the Cup. Quite often they end up with a quick playoffs exit.
