He’s one of those bible thumping freaks so maybe that’s the reason for his longevity. He’s been with many teams around the league like Florida, Carolina, Detroit, San Jose & so on. One night at a game I met his wife April when he played for the Leafs. She was a hottie at the time. Very nice girl but another bible-thumper like her husband.
They won’t, not this year. Hugues has been very clear about it this week. It’s not the right time to do it.
Next year he’ll say the same thing. To be honest so far Hughes hasn’t shown me anything. He hasn’t shown me that he’s up to the job. Since he’s been on the job his teams have regressed. I doubt the fans will put up with the team finishing near the basement for ten years. The danger of playing losing hockey year after year is that players get used to losing. The bigger danger is losing the fan base. For example i know people in Buffalo who were once huge Sabres fans but losing year after year has led to them stopping to watch hockey for good. They just don’t care anymore & they couldn’t even name a single Sabres player playing today. They totally tuned out & found other things to do. When the building starts emptying out in Montreal heads are going to start rolling. If this happens don’t be surprised if the team ends up being put to sale. Owning & running a team is quite a bit of fun but not when you lose year after year & you have the fans & media asking for your head.
I never seen this happening my entire life. Lol Some 10 years ago we thought it was happening but in the end it was just a change of guard for the season ticket buyers. The old traditional fans were fading out but a new generation of kids with lots of money to burn jumped in.
The Habs are actually at the bottom or next to the bottom in most categories. This is really shameful. But i have a feeling that management won’t budge unless thousands of fans start avoiding the Bell Centre. Thousands of fans not spending a lot of money on overpriced beer & overpriced crappy junk food will hurt the bottom line & that’s when ownership will step in & start demanding results.
I agree that it has never happened before (in a non-covid year) but i’ve been following the habs for half a century & i don’t remember them being so bad for so long. To be honest rebuild or not i never imagined this ever happening to this great franchise. I never imagined ownership accepting mediocrity for this long. I remember tough years in the early 80’s but never this bad or this long with no rainbow in sight. I’m not sure how long management can continue to hide behind the rebuilding excuse & bullshit fans into believing that remaining patient & the sacrifice will be all worth it a few years from now when they’ll win the Cup! I mean get real, people! The habs haven’t won a Cup in over thirty years, if you don’t count the covid years they would have missed the playoffs for about 7 seasons, there is now a hard salary cap to deal with & there are now 32 teams, not 6! How long will the die-hard fans continue to accept Geoff Molson/Gorton-Hughes bullshit? Go ask Sabres & Sens fans what they really think about their teams rebuilding! Year after year of mediocrity has led to many die-hards to get off the bandwagon for good!
Le probleme avec Matheson c’est qu’il joue bien de trop. La fatigue mene a faire des erreurs. On devrait l’enlever du pk car c’est epuisant en plus. Notre genie d’entraineur devrait l’aider un peu et le reposer.
C’est sûr qu’en ce moment Hutson devrait obtenir la première vague. Oui Matheson joue trop, mais il est trop facile de lui faire commettre une erreur à la ligne bleue. Un peu de pression et il perd la rondelle pour donner un revirement dangereux.
