Now the guessing begins as to who will replace him. Next thing that has to be done is to send Gainey on his way too and then they can start rebuilding.

I say Pierre McGuire is the favorite to get the job, followed by Vincent Damphousse, Claude Loiselle & Patrick Roy. Other candidates may include Julien Brisebois, Sylvain Lefebvre & Guy Carbonneau, among others.

I'm also extremely surprised that they didn't wait until the season was over to make the announcement (via Twitter?). The only thing i can think of is that Gauthier asked Molson to give him a vote of confidence or fire him now instead of keeping him in limbo. Or, maybe he's got someone already & he couldn't wait any longer & risk losing him.

One thing i'm learning about Geoff Molson is that he appears to be extremely impulsive, which may not be such a good thing. I still think it was a huge mistake to get rid of Pierre Boivin in order to name himself team president. Maybe Geoff Molson is way too involved in the team's daily activities & should just do like other owners by remaining in the background and let hockey people run the hockey business.

By the way, why aren't there any female GMs in pro sports?

It's like Xmas today! Gainey gets the boot also. Happy, happy day! Molson is saying all the right things at the press conference so now all that he's got to do is follow up on them. I'd like to see either McGuire or Blair Mackasey take over as GM and it would be nice to bring Larry Robinson in as defensive coach. Keep Patrick Roy as far away from this team as possible unless they want to hire him as the Goalie coach.

I'm not being smug, i'm simply stating the facts that its astonishing to hear a fan from a last-place team make jokes about another struggling team.
Tech, it's been nearly 20 years since the Habs last won a Cup. Back then, you were the king of the Limelight & Metropolis disco dance floors & going home with a different babe on your arm on a regular basis. But that was a long, long time ago! Tech, i'll guarantee you one thing: "We'll all be dead by the time the Habs win another Cup."

Go easy on Tech and the gang, Doc, it frankly is all they got left after this seasons high hopes and where they ended up. Lets just hope the habs screw up that second overall pick and the Leafs snag it and add yet another talented prospect into the fold. Thats what these guys do not understand, all the talent that is maturing together on the farm will play major roles for the team in the next several years, remember the cupboards were completely bare when Burke arrived, not anymore folks.

Many habs fans were predicting a Cup this year. :lol: Gauthier was running on fumes for the last 2 months and this was bound to happen. What was even better than Mini Bob getting the axe was Boring Bob getting the can, something that should of been done years ago since he predicted a Cup within 5 years when he took over, again, :lol: I wonder if Roy would even take the job if offered as I have heard he would LOVE to be coach and gm if Quebec City gets another team within the next cpl years. If they (habbies fans) think Burke has an ego, well, you aint seen nothing yet! And good for hockey, we need more guys like Roy and Burke, always loved Patty Roy and at least he would be entertaining, not like the walking corpse that was Mickey and Minnie who got fired today. Hate to say it but, good job today habs.

I agree with you, i'll take it easy on Tech and the gang from now on. It is quite true indeed that today's news have been the only good news the team's fans have had all season long and may they name a national holiday on this very day! Rejoice, habs fans, rejoice! Good things will once again happen and your team won't suck forever! I really wish that the habs sign Patrick Roy as their next GM and coach. I will take time off work the day it happens and i'll head to the nearest bar to celebrate!! Saint Patrick, yeah!!! :thumb:

I will also admit that i'll miss not seeing the habs in the playoffs this season. Having the habs in the playoffs always makes them more interesting to watch. I'm also hoping that lame-duck coach Cunneyworth coaches the heck out of the team in its final 5 games and wins every single game! Even though it's been great seeing the habs in their conference's basement for the most part of the season, i'm really hoping that they make a strong run to come out of it. The worse thing for me that would happen is having the habs finish among the worse 3 teams in the league! Go habs go!
