Where did I say that the Markov/Hamrlik blue line is of the same caliber as Niedermayer/Pronger?

This move is a definite upgrade on defense for the Habs and as we saw with the Anaheim Ducks, outstanding blue line defense gives you the chance to win the SC.
So why write "as we saw (etc)" if it's not to suggest that a defence featuring Markov and Hamrlik is outstanding enough to give the Habs a chance to win the cup?

Habs add depth with forward Kostopoulos
Depth is nice if you have something to show at the surface.

Kostopoulos: right winger, shoots right, 6', 200 lbs. His best NHL season was with the Kings in 2003-2004: 9 goals, 13 assists in 60 games. Spent most of his pro career in the OHL and in the AHL, no NHL playoff experience, 28 years old.

God help us!

Is this a hockey-related move or is Gainey sucking up to the Greek community?

Montreal has the largest seating capacity in the NHL and, despite their lack of success on the rare occasions they are invited to the playoffs, sell out during the regular season. There is therefore little incentive for them to improve from the boring losers they are and will continue to be.
I think that when you have that much money (as George)
it get's to be a matter of pride, rather then the bottom line. You just have to have the right people in the right places.

You still have not answered my question. Where did you see me post that the Markov/Hamrlik line is of the same caliber as Pronger/Niedemayer? What you wrote is YOUR own interpretation, OK?

Souray a Devil next year?

According to the latest reports today, Souray and NJD have agreed in principle to a multi-year contract, probably not for a whole lot more than the $5.5M per year deal that he turned down from the Habs but the deal is apparently for 4-6 years.

Le Journal de Montreal reports that General Manager Bob Gainey has offered unrestrict

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/

Bob is looking to bring back Patrice Breeze By, ... I mean Brisebois. At $700K, that wouldn't be too much, but how healthy is he, missing the last half of last season with back surgery.I guess he would be used sparingly, mostly on the PP, if he accepts, having been booed out of town when he played here.

They'd be better off w/o him.Give J-F Coté a chance instead. He was suppose to make the team last year due to Bouillons injury, but he got injured himself.

It's hard to believe but as bad as the Habs were last season they will probably be even worse this year. Poor Pablo - I hope his dreams don't turn to nightmares.

Your absolutely correct. I'll go even further....they're considerably worse! They'll be lucky if they score half as many PP goals as they did last year. Souray's loss will hurt them very much. If there are people out there who think that Roman Hamrlik can match his offensive productivity, guess again. I have a feeling that many Habs fan consider Hamrlik to be a savior of some type. They'll be very disappointed. Don't be surprised if you hear the boo-birds thrown at him halfway into the season.

Just the fact they might bring back Brisebois tells you all you want to know about this year's team. I predict that a month or two into the season, Kovalev will once again come out with some stupid declaration putting the coaches & the team down & he'll be shopped around once again. Folks, it won't be pretty!

I don’t agree. I see the Habs finishing anywhere from 6th to 8th and making the playoffs. We have one of the best goaler tandems with Huet and Halak, and thats how you build a winner, starting in net – not to mention Montreal has the best prospect in the league with Carey Price (who has a good shot at making the big team). Sure, we’ll miss Sourays offensive numbers, but he was brutal defensively and a liability.

Halak/Price, Hamrlik > Abby,Souray

A first pairing of Komisarek and Hamrlik will shut down the other teams best offensive players. Having Ryder back is also good news. I expect Kovalev to regain his old form and light it up. Higgins, Plekanec and Latendresse will have huge years and put up some big numbers.

Bob needs to swing a deal to bring in a player or two, like Marleau or Selanne, then Montreal will challenge for the North east division title – teams like Buffalo, Toronto and Boston are on the decline. I expect the Sabres to still make the playoffs but the shitty Leafs and lousy Bruins will miss the post season again!

Montreal would have made the playoffs last season if it weren’t for that bad flu bug. Carbo will have nos glorieux playing well all season long followed by a lengthy post season! :D

Dream on! Sure, they're solid in the nets. But that wasn't the problem last year. Their biggest problem was their inability to score at even strenght. They haven't solved this problem & they've actually regressed. Yes, Souray is no Bobby Orr on defence. However, i don't believe he was as bad defensively as people seemed to think. Everyone refers to that play when he got his jockstrap picked by Jason Spezza when they refer to Souray as being a defensive liability. But one play alone shouldn't make it seem like he's a pilon. As for your statement that Bob needs to swing a deal to bring in a player such as Marleau or Selanne, it won't happen. He doesn't have the cap space to get a player of that calibre to come to Mtl. Plus, even if he would have the cap space, not many scorers want to come and play in Mtl since they figure Mtl's defensive system would be murder on their offensive playmaking skills.

Be ready for a very long season in Habsland, once again.

They ask that we get more 'québécois' players, whatever that is because it seems only the franco québécois are worthy of being called upon as québécois players, and they ask we win a cup.... logically, it may be impossible to have both, but that's irrelevant to them.
Who's running the show? We'll know for certain when we get Brisebois's new mailing address. Common sense says he'll not be commuting to the Bell Centre.
What do you say about Don Cherry? If if was up to him, the Toronto Maple Leafs would be an all-Canadians bunch of goons, playing with no helmets and uncurved hockey sticks.

Donald Cherry is a multi-millionaire for playing the part of the pompous ass on HNIC. It's all an act & he's good at it, which is why he's fooled so many people over the years with his remarks. He's a much different person off-camera & people would be very surprised to see how different he is as compared to his on-camera personna. It's all an act & he's being paid a lot of money for pulling it off.

So....what will be the next move that the Habs will make? Surely they can't go to training camp with the lineup they presently have. Are they kidding their fans?

Next move is a desperate one: Pat Breezeby, 36 y/o, unhealthy...

Followed by another increase in ticket prices? :D
$700K, 40 home games, 20,000 seated tickets, CAD/USD at par, Brisebois' cost per ticket is $0.88. If he stays healthy and if on average he touches the puck ten times per home game, the cost for booing him is under $0.09 per ticket. Cheap. :D
